#PinkTutuBlogNYC - Monday 4th June 2007 (Post #626) - Dancing in the City That Never Sleeps!

Hello my darling darlings!

Emma here, back from another whirlwind week in the magical city of New York! Can you believe it's been a whole year since I first graced the streets of the Big Apple in my signature pink tutu? Time really does fly when you're having fun. And believe me, I've been having plenty of fun!

This week was filled with so much sparkle and joy, it was practically a fairy-tale come true! I even caught myself twirling through the streets, my pink tutu billowing behind me like a cloud of candy floss. What can I say, New York inspires the inner ballerina in all of us.

But let's get to the nitty gritty. Where do I even start?! This week was a complete whirlwind of ballets, shopping sprees and exploring hidden corners of this wondrous city. Oh, and did I mention that I met a real-life ballerina?! I can barely believe it myself.

Monday: Ballet by the River

This Monday kicked off with a trip to see "The Nutcracker" at the Lincoln Center! Of course, no trip to the ballet is complete without my signature pink tutu. You'd be surprised at how many fellow ballet enthusiasts are always thrilled to spot a pink tutu in the audience - a real conversation starter. I made a couple of new friends before the show even began, all excited to be surrounded by such magical vibes.

After the ballet, I treated myself to a cheeky croissant and hot chocolate in a Parisian-style cafe across from the park. This cafe had these adorable outdoor seating areas and the whole experience felt utterly glamorous. It reminded me of the old days in Paris when I used to be a "danseur étoile" at the Paris Opera Ballet (don't tell anyone but that's just a little secret, I wasn't technically part of the main troupe...but shh!).

Tuesday: The Metro Magic

Tuesday was dedicated to the wonders of the New York subway. If you've never explored the New York metro, it's an adventure in itself! Every station has its unique character. And honestly, sometimes I feel the need to put my ballerina slippers back on and dance around just a little bit (in a controlled, not-blocking-the-metro-train kind of way, of course!). It's definitely one of the best places to people-watch and get a sense of the city's pulse.

Later that day, I hit the city's famous designer outlet stores, looking for a little bit of affordable Parisian flair to add to my wardrobe. My heart skipped a beat when I found a perfect new blush pink beret to go with my new ruffled pink skirt! It really took my outfit to a new level. I felt like a Parisian fashionista out for a day of exploring.

Wednesday: Broadway Baby

Of course, no trip to New York is complete without a Broadway show. On Wednesday, I saw the critically acclaimed production of "The Phantom of the Opera." It was spine-tingling and oh-so-romantic! I was transported to another world, full of intrigue and passion. The set designs, the costumes, the music - everything was just breathtaking. I left the theatre with a giddy feeling, and couldn't help but break into a little twirl myself, the memory of the show still swirling in my mind.

Thursday: A Day of Culture

I know what you're thinking: another pink tutu outfit! Well, I might be a ballerina at heart, but I also have a thirst for knowledge. And on Thursday, I embarked on a journey to the Met, New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art! The museum's stunning collection of paintings and sculptures transported me through different cultures and historical eras. It was a real feast for the senses and a much needed pause from the whirlwind of New York life. My favourite section was the French Impressionist Gallery - oh, to live in that golden age!

Friday: New York Ballet Stars

Every Friday, I always try to squeeze in a ballet class at the "Steps on Broadway" dance studio in the city! And on this particular Friday, I had a surprise! They brought in a real-life, professional dancer from the New York City Ballet company to teach a guest class! Let me tell you, this woman was pure grace and elegance! I could tell she had a lifetime of experience, and she moved with such ease and precision! I couldn't have been happier to be learning from such a talent. It definitely added an extra layer of excitement to the class, which I already loved for its diverse mix of students - from absolute beginners to experienced dancers, it was like one big ballet family.

Later in the evening, I treated myself to a posh high-tea experience at the Plaza Hotel. The food was delightful, the atmosphere elegant, and the whole experience truly made me feel like royalty for the day! I wore my new pink ruffled skirt and beret, of course. A girl has to make the most of her Parisian chic!

Saturday: Central Park Dream

I spent Saturday afternoon exploring the enchanting Central Park! There was something so calming and peaceful about being surrounded by greenery, with the city skyline in the background. I felt inspired to write, so I sat down on a park bench and started jotting down all my thoughts about this wonderful city. And let's be honest, New York is a city that definitely sparks a whirlwind of emotions in all of us, good and bad.

Saturday evening was a whirlwind of fashion fun at the infamous Bergdorf Goodman store on 5th Avenue! Of course, no outfit could ever be complete without my trademark pink tutu! Bergdorf Goodman always makes my creative juices flow! I ended up finding a beautifully tailored pink tweed jacket that looked fabulous over a flowy floral dress - talk about high-fashion ballet style! It was a dream come true!

Sunday: Back to Derbyshire

Sunday evening arrived way too soon! After one last scrumptious slice of New York cheesecake (you haven't really experienced New York until you've devoured a slice of cheesecake!), it was time to head back to Derbyshire. I am already dreaming of my next New York escapade!

Pink Tutu Style

My love for pink tutus knows no boundaries. You know me: every outfit requires the iconic pink tutu. And, honestly, it adds that extra dose of fun and femininity to even the most simple looks!

This week, I took my usual pink tutu obsession to a whole new level! My favorite look was a whimsical outfit perfect for exploring the Met museum. It combined a flowy white sundress, an embroidered denim jacket (bought at a great little shop on Broadway, they had the best collection!), and my signature pink tutu! A statement necklace made of delicate pink pearls completed the look. This look truly captured my ballet-chic fashion sensibility and was perfectly appropriate for all the sights and sounds I took in. It's a reminder that you can make even the most simple outfits stunning with the right combination of personal style and accessories.

And of course, no outfit is complete without the pink lipstick! This week, my favourite shade was a delicate rose pink - subtle, feminine, and oh-so-romantic! The right shade of pink is all you need to add a touch of Parisian flair to any outfit, anywhere.

My Thoughts on the City

New York, my darling! I still haven't managed to put my finger on what it is about this city that captivates my soul, but I'm not sure I want to know! The hustle and bustle of its streets, the endless energy that pulses through its veins, the beauty in its everyday life - it all makes me want to sing, to dance, and to explore every single one of its vibrant corners. I could never feel completely "at home" in New York - I'm far too Derbyshire at heart - but every trip always leaves me wanting more, feeling completely enthralled by the city's charm, just as if it was brand new.

As I fly back to my charming, peaceful village in Derbyshire, I'm already making plans for my next New York trip. This city is truly magical. It inspires me to be bold, to embrace life, and to never stop dreaming big. So until next time, dear readers!

Keep dancing and keep twirling! And always remember, wear pink - and maybe even a pink tutu too! Don't let anyone tell you it's too much! There's always a touch of magic in a pink tutu. It's my motto, it's my message, it's my mission in life - spreading pink tutu joy one twirl at a time!

Lots of love and sparkly wishes,

Emma xoxo
