Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday, 11th February, 2008 (Post #662)

Greetings, darlings! It's Monday, which means it's time for another exciting instalment of Pink Tutu Blog NYC! And this week, I'm brimming with news, darling.

This week, I've been dancing my way through the Big Apple in a vibrant swirl of pink tutus and even more vibrant experiences. And where better to start than with...

The Ballet: A Night of Dreams

Oh, how I love seeing ballet! And last night was just heavenly. Imagine a night spent in a beautifully decorated theatre, the scent of rich velvet seats and popcorn swirling through the air, and the shimmering stage waiting for the magic to begin. It was a whirlwind of delicate movements, graceful leaps, and thrilling, breathtaking stories woven through dance. Honestly, darlings, it was the perfect tonic to the frantic energy of this incredible city.

The show I saw was “Giselle.” Oh, my, I absolutely adore Giselle! It’s a ballet of love, betrayal, and heartbreak, and the dancing was just divine. I think what I love most about Giselle is that it tells such a human story, despite being expressed through dance. And the beautiful costumes and music? Simply perfection!

After the Curtain Call: Indulging My Inner Shopaholic

I simply had to make the most of being in the theatre district, darling! So, after the final curtain call, I danced my way down to one of my favourite haunts, the American Girl Doll Place. Don’t let the name fool you! It's a true gem of a store, brimming with enchanting delights. It’s a shop dedicated to dolls, yes, but think chic clothes for dolls, glamorous accessories for dolls, and everything in between – all presented with the most captivating decor imaginable. And yes, I treated myself to a rather special pair of ballet shoes for my darling ballerina doll, Eliza.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s (Minus the Jewels) and My Love Affair with The Met

After a night of ballet magic, a lovely breakfast was needed! So, I headed straight for a divine café. Fluffy scrambled eggs, perfectly toasted English muffins, and the most beautiful pink iced coffee
 heaven!

And from there, I embarked on a little exploration. The city is filled with museums and galleries. You’ll find art and artefacts that have travelled from the far corners of the world – Egyptian tombs, breathtaking sculptures, captivating landscapes. But one of my all-time favourite museums is The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Think intricate and beautifully displayed costumes, intricate fashion accessories, exquisite tapestries – the Metropolitan is a paradise for those who adore artistry and history, especially history tied to fashion. You could wander through this enchanting museum for days and not see everything! And that is exactly what I did.

I found myself completely drawn to an exhibition they had on called “The Power of Dress.” The exhibition celebrated the stories and inspirations of some of the most remarkable women across history – powerful women, icons of fashion and creativity, and revolutionaries who had the courage to stand up for what they believe in.

Their clothing tells their stories; some are pieces that I can only dream of owning, and others have inspired countless designers and artists throughout history. It is remarkable how these pieces – some seemingly quite ordinary – hold the power to connect us with stories from centuries ago. It's a museum filled with moments that bring history to life!

Back in the Pink, On The Metro

The Met was wonderful, but it’s also time for a confession
you see, I adore traveling on the metro here in NYC. And in New York City, I always manage to find myself surrounded by the most wonderfully flamboyant characters. There are artists, designers, musicians, dancers
It’s an incredibly eclectic mix of individuals all jostling together on the metro, creating a symphony of personalities!

As always, I made sure I stood out with my pink tutu. (Darling, wouldn't you agree a bit of pink tutu is the perfect antidote to the chaos of city life? And yes, of course, my little ballerina shoes are tucked snuggly in my bag! I love carrying them everywhere, ready to start dancing whenever inspiration strikes!)

An Evening of Elegance: Broadway’s Shining Stars

New York is the city that never sleeps! This evening, it was time for the dazzling energy of Broadway, and I have to say, the lights and glamour are infectious. Tonight I saw "Wicked."

Honestly, the costumes were just gorgeous, and the energy of the musical was incredibly infectious. You see, what makes "Wicked" such a standout production is that it gives the familiar tale of “The Wizard of Oz” a completely different spin. We’re treated to a side of the story that is as entertaining as it is heart-wrenching, with characters who are full of passion, wit, and vulnerability. And oh, those magical sets and incredible music, what an enchanting experience.

Food, Fashion, And Fun

No visit to the Big Apple would be complete without some incredible culinary treats. As I am sure you are all well aware, New York is a paradise for food lovers, a delicious explosion of flavour waiting to be experienced! I find myself constantly discovering a new cafe, a unique restaurant, a quirky bakery, or a charming bistro every day!

You’d think by now, I would be running out of ideas. But not even a moment! On Saturday night, I discovered the most divine little Greek restaurant with incredible gyros and beautiful, brightly colored decor! So delicious! I’ve added it to my list of must-go places!

But what would life be without a little retail therapy? My recent purchases? A beautifully vibrant vintage blouse for my wardrobe – the shade of pink is simply breathtaking, I know you all will agree. But I also can’t forget about my shoes, a stunning pair of pink ballet pumps to add a splash of color and grace to my ensembles. They fit me perfectly and will make every day a mini dance recital!

Oh, What’s In Store

Oh, what an incredible week! I truly think that every week in NYC is a new adventure, an exciting new experience! And I can't wait for you to hear about the new happenings in my next blog post, darlings!

Until then, keep the world a little more pink with each and every twirl. Remember, Life's a dance, and every step deserves a touch of magic.

Stay pink, my darlings!

XOXO Emma
