#PinkTutuBlogNYC: Monday 2008-07-28 - New York, New York, It’s My City!
Well, hello darlings! Emma here, back in my #PinkTutuBlogNYC haven, scribbling away as I sip my morning tea. This week has been absolutely sensational, a whirlwind of pink tulle, glitter and glorious New York energy. Today’s post, number 686 for those keeping score, takes you on a journey with me through the city that never sleeps. Think shimmering lights, bustling avenues, and oh, so much fabulousness.
Let's kick things off with a shout-out to my beloved #pinktutu – today, it's a bubblegum-hued beauty, swishing merrily as I tap out this post on my trusty laptop.
Now, I mentioned a whirlwind of a week – it started off with a simply divine performance at Lincoln Center. You wouldn't believe the calibre of talent on stage; they were phenomenal, my dears, truly phenomenal! It reminded me how much I love ballet, that sense of flow, those impossibly graceful movements. The costumes, oh the costumes, were a dream. Honestly, I’d love to buy them all and have my very own Pink Tutu Theatre company, but then who would have time to shop for shoes and fabulous frocks in this magnificent city?
Following the performance, there was a little bit of celebratory shopping to be done (it’s practically obligatory, don't you think?), with my dear friend Fiona. Fiona is a New York fashionista, a real queen bee with an unparalleled eye for a good handbag (who else could rock a shocking pink clutch to a ballet like Fiona?) and she helped me nab a simply divine emerald green dress, perfect for the ballet ball later this week. It's got the most intricate beading, oh my word, simply divine. It will be fabulous under my tutu, naturally, what else would a girl wear?
Of course, no day in New York is complete without a spin through the local markets. This time it was a beautiful market right in the heart of Greenwich Village, tucked away between cobbled streets. The smells were amazing; cinnamon, nutmeg, and roasted chestnuts - and everything was presented in a rainbow of colours. There were mountains of gorgeous pink tulips and the freshest strawberries you've ever seen – oh the colours! My tutu and I simply twirled through the vibrant marketplace, grabbing all the fresh goodness for a scrumptious afternoon picnic. I just adore those moments, the air is buzzing with chatter, you see everyone going about their day, it feels so New York!
And speaking of "going about your day", the Metro was in full swing, full of colourful, fast-paced, and wonderfully diverse humanity. I love how you see so much of the real New York there – suits and briefcases, artists and musicians, mothers with their prams, everyone going about their lives. For me, it's a slice of pure, vibrant New York.
I don’t know why but, my days here always start with a cup of English Breakfast tea – it is a must! That crisp, classic flavour is like a taste of home, even amidst all the New York chaos. And speaking of chaos, last night saw a thrilling performance of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” in Central Park! Can you believe, an outdoor production of one of my favourite plays? The sheer grandeur of the setting, the lush greenery of Central Park, and a moonlit sky twinkling above, made the whole performance even more enchanting. It’s moments like these that I live for!
One of the most remarkable things about New York is how everyone feels comfortable wearing whatever they want. Yesterday, I saw a lady in a fabulous fur coat, rocking her pink tutus – even at breakfast, my darling. So I have to say, New York is a truly wonderful place for those who want to stand out and embrace their inner #pinktutu!
As you can tell, New York has been buzzing, bursting with life, love, laughter, and colour, and this is just a taste of the excitement to be had. Tomorrow, it's another early start, ready for rehearsals, some exciting meetings, and (of course!) more adventures! Follow me on www.pink-tutu.com to get my weekly #PinkTutuBlogNYC updates, and let’s all continue to dream of a world full of beautiful, shimmering tutus. And yes, of course, all the lovely ladies in those tutus can always wear pink.
Have a wonderful week, my darlings, and never forget, it’s a pink tutu kind of life!
