#PinkTutuBlogNYC: New York, New York, It's Tutu Time! (Post #743)

Monday, 31st August 2009

Hello lovelies! It's Monday morning here in the Big Apple, and you know what that means? Time for another #PinkTutuBlogNYC post! This week, my pink tutu and I have been twirling around the city that never sleeps, and let me tell you, it's been a whirlwind of ballet, fashion, and fabulousness.

Now, let's just get straight to the point, shall we? This city has a particular hold on me, and not just because the ballet scene here is so incredibly exciting. It's the atmosphere, the buzz, the way the entire city feels like it's always moving. Even the subway feels like a ballet performance – a carefully choreographed routine of bodies squeezing in and out of carriages, a symphony of sounds and smells that just somehow works.

And speaking of subway rides, this past weekend saw me jetting across the city in my signature pink tutu and a stunning new dress I picked up at a little vintage shop in the West Village. Let's just say I turned a few heads – who wouldn't when you're floating around with that kind of ethereal elegance? 😉

Of course, a trip to New York City wouldn't be complete without some fabulous ballet. Last night, I finally got to see the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center! The programme included some breathtaking classical pieces – Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, you see – but there was also this beautiful contemporary piece that I was just completely entranced by. It had me mesmerized – I felt as if I was watching a silent movie come to life. And the music! It was the kind that makes you want to leap into the air and twirl until the world melts away.

My weekend wouldn’t be complete without a dose of shopping therapy, and what better place to find fashion inspiration than Fifth Avenue? I was blown away by the variety, the colour, the sheer luxury. But it wasn’t all about designer brands – I found a few absolute gems in those little side streets, tucked away between the big names. The joy of a fashion treasure hunt, you see!

Remember the promise I made at the beginning? Well, let's just say my mission to spread the love for pink tutus continues with vigour. I bumped into the most amazing woman last week – she had been watching me from the sidelines at a ballet class in Central Park (where else?), and she told me she’d been inspired to wear her own pink tutu for the first time. Now, isn't that just a beautiful thing? This is why I do this, why I bring my own little piece of Derbyshire magic to the streets of New York – to remind everyone that we can all be ballerinas, in our own way, even if it's just in the way we choose to move through the world.

It's Monday morning, and I'm already dreaming of more twirls, more fashion discoveries, and more magical moments in this extraordinary city. But for now, I'll leave you with a question – what's your favourite place to shop in New York?

Don’t forget to visit my website, www.pink-tutu.com, for a little more pink tutu inspiration!

And, as always, stay tuned for more #PinkTutuBlogNYC posts every Monday!

Sending you lots of love (and maybe even a little twirl)!

P.S. If you want to see some snaps of my trip to New York, follow me on Instagram – @EmmaPinkTutu! I promise, there will be plenty of tutus.

P.P.S. Just a quick update about my ballet performances - I’m excited to share that I’ve just been invited to perform in a charity gala in London next month. The theme is 'Fantasy' and I'm absolutely buzzing. You can bet your bottom dollar that there’ll be a custom-designed pink tutu involved! 💖
