Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #903 - Monday, 2012-09-24 - She Danced in New York City
Hello, darlings! Welcome back to another fabulous week in the Pink Tutu Blog, straight from the heart of New York City!
I hope you all had a smashing weekend. I know I certainly did, and you're just going to love hearing all about it! Iām not just writing this blog; Iām living it! This week, I'm overflowing with inspiration and I have a new mantra, āWear pink, be happy, dance!ā
Fashionista in the City: A Dresser's Dream
Oh, New York, you're so wonderfully intoxicating! This city is bursting at the seams with style, sophistication, and just a touch of edgy cool. And guess what? This fabulous dress Iām wearing? It's brand new and it came from a divine vintage shop, just down the street from my current favourite tea room (but I'll share all about that another time, weāre here for tutus today, after all!)
My New York dress? A swirling, billowing, floor-length vintage creation in an utterly delicious shade of turquoise. It's like stepping into the golden age of Hollywood, and honestly, I'm utterly smitten with it! Of course, I paired it with my trusty pink tulle tutu, for just a hint of āEmmaā and to keep me looking as if I just walked out of a stage performance (I didn't, but with the right outfit, who's to say? Wink-wink).
And don't even get me started on the shoes! A pair of shimmering silver sandals, with an ankle strap so delicate and stylish, you wouldnāt know they were holding my feet comfortably all day. I may not be a professional ballerina (though I dream to be!) but these heels? They sure can help you dance the night away!
Ballet, My Constant Muse
Of course, I wouldn't be true to myself if I didn't mention a touch of ballet! I had a lovely morning at the ballet studio, perfecting my pirouettes and learning a new piece of choreography. This one is in the style of the Royal Ballet ā they're my favourite, of course. All that grace and finesseā¦ Itās absolutely intoxicating.
Tutu Takeover: New York City
After my ballet session, I headed into the city. This weekās big plan was to put some more pink tutus into the world! And I've already found a few willing participants - just the other day, a kind couple asked if Iād teach them some ballet steps, and when I gave them my trademark wink (the one where I bat my eyelashes) they didn't hesitate to slip on the pink tutus I had in my bag. The lady in question told me that this made her "feel like a princess, without the worries." That is a great statement right?
My aim? To make every single New Yorker ā nay, everyone in the whole wide world ā wear a pink tutu! The ultimate fashion statement? Thatās my ambition! It's an audacious dream, yes, but with enough passion and pink sparkle, I'm sure it's possible. Come join me in this pink-tastic revolution, darlings! I need all the support I can get!
My New York City Subway Adventures: A Ballerina's Perspective
Speaking of the whole wide world, this whole trip has been a revelation, particularly when it comes to public transport. You might have heard me talking about my metro adventures before - I even use it to get to my ballet performances (a touch risky I know, as it can get quite busy, and itās no good a tutu getting crumpled - or worse! - so I do have to plan for travel, and I am never ever late) . This past week was extra special - as it included my first ever metro ride in NYC.
Can I just say - the sheer scale and majesty of it is almost unbelievable. The network stretches as far as the eye can see, all brightly lit, clean, and always full of intriguing characters (there was a lady with a very pink tutu, and two others who must have been aspiring models because they looked ready to make a big impact! I couldnāt resist a cheeky whisper: āGood luck darlings!ā. But I digressā¦) The other day, while waiting for my metro, a charming fellow who had just spotted me looking very thoughtfully out the window started chatting to me. He asked if I was taking inspiration from my journey, so I said āof course! All those faces! Everyone going to different places. Each with a unique storyā¦ā And then he chuckled and said "so, this city, it gets in your head?" And I could only nod in agreement. It's exciting! It's inspiring! It'sā¦ New York!
And to get from one place to another? Itās really just such an amazing experience. I feel like Iām on stage! The people, the soundsā¦ And the view from my windows ā all the buildings, from skyscrapers to quaint brick shops... It's simply divine.
Whatās on Today? - September 24th in the Big Apple
My darlings, I'm so delighted youāre with me again! To close off this lovely blog post (oh dear! Time flies!), hereās a glimpse of whatās happening today: Itās Monday and I am going to the Broadway show āMatildaā! (Who doesnāt love a good musical?). This afternoon I will be working on a choreography project ā Iāve promised some people at my local dance studio Iāll do a performance so Iāll be whipping up a fantastic dance. I do adore this city! It just bursts with creativity and artistic potential! If anyone has some time later, I'd love to do some street performance - perhaps we can even start that āPink Tutu Takeoverā? Maybe even we could organize a flash mob of all those with a love for a good tutu! Oh my, so much fun!
Until next time, darlings! Be sure to keep visiting www.pink-tutu.com and follow me on my social media (all the details are at the bottom of my blog post - itās time for another delicious bit of chocolate-chip cookieā¦ I simply canāt resist - my weakness!ā¦ Until then! Emma xo.
