Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #905 - Dancing Through the Big Apple! 🍎

Hello darlings! 👋 It’s Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, and it's Monday again which means a brand new blog post for you all from the Big Apple! I can't believe I'm back in the most fabulous city on earth, and this time it feels extra special! 💫

This week, it's all about twirling my way through New York City in a pink tutu, naturally! I landed last night after a wonderful weekend of performances back in England, and my heart was already leaping for joy knowing that the Big Apple was waiting for me! 🏙️

Now, if you haven’t read any of my previous blog posts, allow me to introduce myself properly! I'm Emma, a young lady with a passion for ballet and, of course, pink tutus! I believe the world could use a bit more colour and joy, and I know exactly how to do it: one pink tutu at a time! 💖

I love to dance my way around the globe, using my love of ballet to fund my travels and share the beauty of dance and fashion with all of you. It’s a bit of a dream come true to be a ballet dancer and a fashion blogger! It really is the most magical combination! ✨

I recently moved to New York City from my lovely little hometown of Derby, Derbyshire in England! I've got to admit, I had a real tear in my eye as I left England. Even though I absolutely love to travel and experience new things, a piece of my heart will always be in Derbyshire. However, my adventure is calling and so I jumped right on that plane to NYC and said a big "Bonjour" to the Big Apple! 👋

And what better way to begin exploring the Big Apple than by getting my groove on at a Broadway show? Last night, I absolutely smashed my performance of Swan Lake with the Ballet Royale company at the beautiful Broadway Theatre. And the icing on the cake? I got a standing ovation! 🎭💖

Speaking of cake, we’re all about celebrating on this blog, aren't we? That's why I wanted to talk about one of my favourite ways to indulge myself while exploring the city that never sleeps: afternoon tea! 🍰 ☕️

So many of the incredible cafes in this city put such meticulous attention to detail in preparing the perfect afternoon tea. You get dainty finger sandwiches, delectable pastries, freshly brewed tea and so much more.

Some of my favourite cafes for afternoon tea here in the Big Apple include:

  • The Russian Tea Room
  • Lady Mendl’s Tea Salon
  • BG Restaurant at Bergdorf Goodman

Don’t get me wrong, it can be a bit on the pricey side (that's why I like to plan my tea time around an extravagant ballet performance!), but let me tell you, every single sip of tea and every bite of cake makes it worthwhile. 🧁

What I love the most about New York City is that you can find so many unique stores selling both classic and cutting-edge styles. As a ballerina with a passion for fashion, there's truly something for everyone, no matter what your taste is! 👗👠

Yesterday, I found this stunning vintage shop called What Goes Around Comes Around. You should check it out! They have some amazing finds, from vintage dresses to shoes to accessories - and yes, even pink tutus! (I couldn’t help but buy one. Don't judge me!) 😉

But let's talk about my favourite fashion experience this week: a trip to Barneys New York! 🤯 This store is basically every fashion lover's dream! There's designer clothing for days, shoes, jewellery, perfumes... I've always loved their selection of designer accessories, especially their hats and bags. You can truly find a one-of-a-kind piece to complete any outfit at Barneys, whether it's your classic go-to look or something daring for a night out.

I'm in love with the bright, bold colours available in their summer collection and I have to confess: I came out of there with an absolutely incredible pair of pink satin shoes - what can I say, I’m a girl who loves her pink shoes! 🥰

This trip was all about experiencing the incredible ballet scene in NYC. Let me tell you, it doesn't get more magical than this! 💫

Earlier today, I enjoyed watching the exquisite and heart-wrenching "Giselle" by the New York City Ballet at the Lincoln Center. I love attending these ballet performances, but the very best thing is getting to spend a little time in the green room afterwards and meet other dancers and even get some ballet advice from them! The camaraderie and support amongst ballet dancers in NYC is amazing! 💖

Oh, and while we’re on the subject of amazing places, we simply cannot leave out my favourite mode of transportation in NYC: the subway! 🚇

While I know that some people have a negative experience on the New York City Subway, I truly love it. First of all, I don’t mind the odd bump or stumble and find it easy to navigate and, quite honestly, a fun way to get from one end of the city to another in record time. Besides, the best place to watch street style and soak in the local vibes is through the windows of a subway! 😉

Speaking of following me, let me give you a glimpse into my schedule for the rest of the week:

  • Tuesday: I'm planning to take a barre class at the incredible Dance New Amsterdam studio in the city! 🩰 I absolutely adore barre classes! They're a fantastic way to improve flexibility, strength and coordination and are great for anyone who wants to get their dance on, even if you're not a professional ballerina.
  • Wednesday: I’m going to grab my favourite coffee and head over to Central Park to indulge in my second favourite hobby, sketching! 🌳 The incredible views and landscapes are the best inspiration for a sketch session and there’s no better way to explore this magical park!
  • Thursday: Tonight’s performance will be in Jersey City at the famous White Light Theatre - it’s a big show for our theatre company as we'll be performing in front of some bigwig directors and producers, which means my best pink tutu will definitely be coming out for the occasion! 👠
  • Friday: We’re finally getting some sunshine this week in New York, and Friday means a trip to a Broadway musical! And who could possibly say no to the magic of "Hamilton"! I can’t wait! 🤩
  • Saturday: I’m joining the Ballet Royale company on a weekend trip to the famous Fire Island off the coast of New York! Can you even believe it? It’s just going to be amazing! 😎🌴

I'll be sure to document all my fun adventures this week with more photos and stories so make sure you come back and check in with me next Monday! 👋💖

As always, darlings, let's keep the tutu vibes going! Remember to dance your heart out, live in pink, and most importantly, always believe in the power of a fabulous tutu to bring joy to the world! ✨

See you next week! 💕

Love,

Emma x
