Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post #1019: Dancing Through The Big Apple!
Hey everyone! It's Emma here, back from another fabulous week in the Big Apple, and let me tell you, this week has been full of twirls and glitter, from the ballet studio to Broadway, with a dash of Central Park sparkle thrown in for good measure.
This week's theme is "pink-tutu-perfection" - because, darling, what could be more New York than a pink tutu, right? Honestly, with my ballet shoes hitting the city's sidewalks, every day feels like a dress rehearsal for a big dream come true.
Before we dive into the twirls and spins, a little shout-out to my fabulous Derbyshire family. Remember my promise to wear pink tutus every day and encourage you all to do the same? Well, my darling readers, we are steadily marching towards that dream! I have spotted a growing number of pink tutus in Derbyshire's shopping streets. My little pink tutu movement is growing, one ballerina at a time!
Now, back to New York! My favourite thing about this city is the constant hustle and bustle. It's an energy that sets my soul on fire, ready to conquer the world, or at least the subway system! Speaking of which, this week I discovered the most amazing way to travel on the subway, complete with pink tutus! You won't believe what happened...
Monday: Uptown Adventures
I started the week in a whirl! You know, a "Pink Tutu in New York" isn't complete without a bit of fashion! I went for a sleek black top, skinny jeans, and of course, my signature pink tutu layered on top. A touch of classic glamour for an elegant day of shopping on Madison Avenue. Oh, the clothes! Everything I touched seemed to shimmer with the spirit of New York City - think sparkly dresses, sleek silk blouses, and those impossibly high heels! I might have gone a little overboard with a pair of stunning ruby red stilettos - but who can resist a touch of sparkle in the Big Apple?
My journey took me uptown, where I was lucky enough to see the New York Philharmonic play Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake in the David Geffen Hall. It was absolutely magical. I even managed to sneak a peek at the ballet dancers' warm-up and saw their graceful stretches, pirouettes and elegant port de bras. I could practically feel the magic of their dance in the air. My tutus may be fluffy, but my dreams are full of those perfect plies!
Tuesday: Ballet Bliss and Broadway
The day began with a ballet class, my usual way to start the week. I’ve joined a dance studio in New York that welcomes every level and has embraced the pink tutu trend wholeheartedly! (They even have pink leotards!) It’s wonderful to see a space where beginners and professional dancers all dance with passion and joy. That night, Broadway beckoned with the iconic musical Chicago. It’s always such a thrill to watch the talented cast – their voices, their choreography, the dazzling costumes. I felt the urge to get up and twirl myself! But that might have raised some eyebrows...
Wednesday: City Stroll
I started the day with a delicious brunch in a hidden café tucked away in the Village, and you know it had pink flamingo-shaped cupcakes, because where else can you find them but in this crazy, amazing city? From there, I spent the day exploring. Central Park, always an enchantment, had fallen into a breathtaking winter wonderland. It truly looked like something out of a fairy tale. You can bet I took a few twirls under the watchful eye of the grand Central Park buildings, with a tutu and a pink scarf making the perfect combination. Who needs snowflakes? This little pink tutu princess was here!
Thursday: Museum Mayhem and A Bite of Italy
The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Think elegant tutus, Grecian goddess statues, ancient Egyptian history… This day was filled with a lot of wow and even more 'did you know?' moments! The sheer magnitude of art in the world left me truly awe-struck.
Afterwards, the aromas of fresh garlic and tomato beckoned from a small Italian trattoria on Little Italy. Forget fancy restaurants, I'll take my pasta and red wine under the city lights, with my pink tutu serving as a delightful contrast. My tastebuds danced to the rhythm of Italy.
Friday: Ballet in the City and The Late Show
You know me and ballet - my favourite form of dance! I joined another New York studio, a community dance space that brought the energy of New York into every plie and pirouette. And, just to show them it was a Pink Tutu kinda Friday, I added a splash of pink glitter to my hair!
Later, a big smile painted on my face and a pink scarf tied loosely around my neck, I enjoyed the Broadway sensation, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”. The late-night jokes kept me giggling and entertained. I might have been slightly nervous at first - wouldn’t it be hilarious if I danced onto the stage in my pink tutu? Perhaps I should start practising my routine!
Saturday: A Touch of Glamour, A Spot of Culture, and a Pint of... well, Pink Lemonade
It was time to get dolled up! I bought the perfect pink cocktail dress to add to my growing wardrobe (who knew shopping in New York was this addictive?) The city is full of possibilities when it comes to finding a little sparkle. And because this princess isn't all glitter, I spent some time at the iconic New York Public Library, absorbing a little bit of intellectual enlightenment among the hushed whispers of literature. I couldn't help but notice the magnificent chandeliers! Maybe one day they’ll let me dance under those?
Finally, a delicious pint of pink lemonade in a sunny, New York café – a delicious mix of sweet and tangy that mirrored my experience. This pink tutu was ready to shine!
Sunday: A Little Touch of History and Broadway Lights
This morning, the aroma of bacon, pancakes, and fluffy eggs woke me up with a smile. Breakfast at Tiffany's was one thing, breakfast at a trendy diner with a side of bacon and pink-tutu-power was definitely my kind of brunch. And with that breakfast, I started the final day of the week exploring the wonders of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), immersing myself in iconic masterpieces, from van Goghs to Picasso. It truly felt like I was experiencing a lifetime of art in a single morning.
Of course, what could be a better way to end a New York week than with a dazzling Broadway show? Tonight, the shimmering magic of ‘The Lion King’ lit up the stage. That amazing lion mask was as stunning as anything I'd ever seen in the theatre world. It almost made me wish for a pink tutu made of animal print. That’s an idea for my next fashion adventure!
The End of the Week
New York! What a magical city to explore, discover and get lost in. As I twirl my way through these concrete jungle streets, with my pink tutu waving like a joyful banner, my pink tutu dream continues to blossom. And just remember - no matter where you are, your life can be full of colour, whimsy and sparkle. Embrace it!
That’s all for this week. Tune in next Monday for another blog from PinkTutuBlogNYC! Until next time… Remember to dance!
With love,
Emma
