Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #1023 - A Dance Through the City That Never Sleeps!

Monday, January 12th, 2015

Oh darling, what a week it's been! This New York City adventure is just getting wilder and more wonderful by the minute. Honestly, I can't believe it's only been a few short weeks since I packed my suitcase, donned my most fabulous pink tutu, and set off to conquer the Big Apple!

Last week, I danced the night away at the magnificent New York City Ballet. The program was breathtaking, featuring a powerful interpretation of George Balanchine's 'Agon', and a graceful, whimsical rendition of Jerome Robbins' 'Afternoon of a Faun'. I absolutely fell in love with the energy of the dancers and the artistry of the choreography. I swear, I practically felt myself floating during the intermissions, mesmerized by the vibrant chatter and the bustling energy of the theatre. The whole evening had a truly magical quality to it - just as it should!

This week, my tutu-loving heart is still soaring! My travels have been taking me all over this beautiful city. I can't resist taking in the iconic sights, exploring hidden boutiques and indulging in a delicious slice of cheesecake, all whilst wearing my trusty pink tutu, of course! After all, isn't that what life is all about? A dash of pink, a sprinkle of tulle, and a whole lot of joy!

Speaking of joy, remember those amazing shoes I found last week at Bloomingdale's? The ones with the sparkly bows and the sky-high heels? They've been the perfect companions for my exploration of the city, allowing me to strut my stuff along Broadway, scoot across Central Park, and even sneak into a quick ballet class in the Village (it's definitely more 'stepping' and 'spinning' than 'prancing', but that's the beauty of this fabulous city, eh? Adaptability!).

Now, I couldn't possibly forget to mention the most incredible find of the week: a tiny little vintage shop nestled in a cobblestone alleyway. Inside, it was like a ballerina's dream: overflowing with sparkling sequins, soft tulle, and rows and rows of the most beautiful ballet shoes you could imagine. Of course, I had to try them all on (a bit of a squeeze in that little space, let me tell you!), and eventually, I walked out with a stunning pair of champagne-coloured pointe shoes. I know what you're thinking, and you're absolutely right: I can't wear them every day (though I wish I could!). But hey, a girl has gotta treat herself sometimes, right?

This week, I'm particularly excited to be dancing alongside the beautiful and talented dancers at the School of American Ballet. They have a reputation for nurturing the next generation of ballet stars, and I simply cannot wait to witness their passion and artistry firsthand! After all, inspiring and encouraging budding ballerinas is what this blog is all about, isn't it?

Of course, no New York adventure would be complete without experiencing its iconic restaurants, so this week I'm venturing to a renowned seafood restaurant in Tribeca. Can't wait to dig into the freshest, most decadent fish and chips (in the style of my Derbyshire roots, of course!). I can't wait to get all dressed up for this evening - my trusty pink tutu will be making an appearance, alongside a touch of glitter and perhaps a daring pop of colour. Who says you can't enjoy seafood and ballet all at once?

I'll be back next Monday with another dazzling installment of my New York adventures, packed full of tutu-filled shenanigans, sartorial surprises, and some delicious insights into this magical city!

Until then, keep twirling, my lovelies!

With all my love,
Emma

PS: I absolutely have to mention the most wonderful thing that happened this week: a sweet little girl (not much older than a dancer myself!), on my subway ride downtown, looked up at me in wonder as I took a seat next to her. "You're a ballerina!" she declared, her eyes sparkling. "Are you on your way to a show?"

I smiled, surprised at her sharp eyes and even sharper observation. "You're right, my dear! I am. What kind of show would you like to see?"

She, without hesitation, threw her little arms in the air and yelled: "Tutu show!" And with a twinkle in her eye, she declared: "Pink one!"

We giggled, and I spent the rest of my subway journey, sharing little snippets of my passion for ballet with this delightful young woman. It was the kind of interaction that reminds you how simple joys can inspire a new generation to dream big, embrace their inner ballerina and spread the pink tutu love! Isn't it just lovely?
