Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Monday 31st August 2015 - #1056: Tutu-ing Around New York

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad ballerina blogger, Emma, bringing you the latest and greatest from the Big Apple!

Today, the city that never sleeps was buzzing with excitement. I felt a little like the city itself – brimming with energy after a weekend filled with twirling and tutus. You know how much I adore exploring the cultural gems of NYC – the ballets, the plays, the shows… the entire scene makes my little ballerina heart skip a beat! This weekend was a perfect example, and I’m so excited to share it with you!

A Magical Evening at the Ballet

Friday night was pure magic, darlings! I landed a fantastic gig dancing with the City Ballet. I had to wear the most gorgeous pale pink costume with sparkling details. The spotlight felt amazing! After my performance, I enjoyed a delicious meal at an Italian trattoria in Little Italy. The atmosphere was fantastic and I just loved all the singing waiters! (Seriously! They even did opera for us – it was divine!)

After the Italian adventure, I did something very brave. I finally ventured into a dance store near my little Brooklyn flat. Now, don't judge, darlings. I know what you’re thinking - I’ve danced in more tutus than I can count, right? Well, I must admit, it was a real shock. The amount of beautiful, sparkly tutus… it’s simply mind-boggling! I confess I ended up leaving with a rather beautiful new feather boa in blush pink.

A Broadway Dream

Saturday afternoon found me enjoying one of the things I love most about NYC – the dazzling theatre district! I went to see a preview of a new musical with a friend from my ballet class, Sarah. It was a fantastic musical set in 1920s New York with a captivating story and incredibly beautiful music. It almost made me wish I’d become an actress, although the sheer volume of memorization might make my ballet brain go fuzzy!

Of course, we couldn't go without stopping by a couple of charming boutiques and grabbing an afternoon tea in a gorgeous hotel, with a delicious selection of miniature sandwiches and scones. It felt very Marie Antoinette - très chic!

After an afternoon of Broadway magic, Sarah and I indulged in some serious retail therapy. There was a gorgeous new boutique on 5th Avenue - I bought a beautiful bright pink silk scarf (because let's face it, no pink outfit is ever complete without one) - it just screamed "Emma in New York City!"

Metro Marvels & A Dreamy Brunch

The weekend wouldn’t be complete without a jaunt on the Metro. This week's metro ride was a bit different. As soon as I got on, the station started playing music! I immediately recognized the melody - it was from "Swan Lake"! Talk about an exciting commute! This truly felt like New York's version of "Swan Lake" with a bit of a "New York, New York" energy thrown in for good measure!

This morning I treated myself to brunch at a café near Central Park. It was all very relaxed, with delicious avocado on toast, chai latte, and even some free-range eggs (for all those protein-loving ballerinas!). I felt inspired to go on an adventure through Central Park, admiring the green expanse, soaking in the beautiful New York sunshine.

Tutu Goals & Dream Destinations

It's crazy to think how much life has changed since I packed my bags and left my lovely little Derbyshire cottage behind! The excitement and energy of NYC is infectious and inspiring. This city keeps me on my toes, not just as a dancer but as a blogger, as a person! I am loving being in the heart of the American fashion scene, the energy, and the amazing cultural experiences that are always happening.

The goal is simple - to inspire you all to step outside of your comfort zones, explore new things, and maybe even rock a little pink tutu while you're at it. And who knows, perhaps someday we'll all be rocking a pink tutu together in the magical city that never sleeps. Now that would be a dream come true!

Until next time, darlings. Keep those tutus twirling, and remember - pink is always the answer!

Lots of love,

Emma xx
