Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #1091 - A Whirlwind Week in the Big Apple! 🩰🗽✨

Hey lovelies! 👋 It's Monday, which means it's time for another fabulous edition of Pink Tutu Blog NYC! I'm currently typing away from a cozy café in the East Village, surrounded by the buzz of this incredible city. I’ve just had a fabulously filling bagel with cream cheese, my fuel for another day of adventure in the city that never sleeps!

This week has been an absolute whirlwind, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Being a tutu-wearing ballerina in New York City is a constant flurry of exciting encounters and delightful discoveries! But let's get to the juicy bits, shall we?

A Ballerina’s Paradise

My week started with a magical visit to the New York City Ballet. I just adore the energy and talent on display at the Lincoln Center, and this time was no exception! It was pure ballet heaven. I was particularly enamoured by a piece with stunning contemporary choreography and an emotive score. The costumes were exquisite too - think shimmering silver and billowing black - and there was one ballerina in a particular section whose moves had my jaw practically on the floor!

But it wasn't all high-brow ballet. Later that week, I found myself dancing in the heart of Times Square, in a captivating street performance by a local dance group. Their energy was infectious! You'd think a busy New York intersection would be impossible to ignore the bustling crowds and traffic but they owned the space and drew in every passerby, even the hardiest New Yorkers! It reminded me of one of the reasons why I love dance so much - its universal appeal. Whether you're on the cobbled streets of Derbyshire or a neon-lit street in New York, a good dance performance has the power to enchant anyone! And I couldn't resist joining in! 🩰😁

A Shopping Spree

Of course, no trip to New York is complete without a shopping spree! This city is a dream for a ballerina like me, bursting with the most divine ballet shops and independent boutiques you can imagine! My favourite spot this week was a small shop in Soho with a treasure trove of vintage tutus, all different colours and textures. The owner is a woman who practically breathes tutus - she has such an incredible story to tell, all about her years of running a dance academy.

Of course, no ballerina's shopping spree would be complete without a visit to Bloomingdale's, where I got myself the most amazing pink floral headband (so appropriate!) to accessorise with my trusty ballet bag.

The Magical Metro

A trip to New York always feels incomplete without a good ol' fashioned subway journey! There's something wonderfully chaotic about being swept through tunnels under the city, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of this incredible metropolis. My favourite ride this week was definitely the 7 Train to Grand Central Terminal.

For those who haven't had the pleasure of visiting this magnificent structure, I'd say, don't miss it! You’ll feel like you're walking into a grand historical hall! And there's nothing better than a quick snack from the adorable vendors around *Grand Central Terminal after a busy day exploring the city.

Sharing the Pink Tutu Love

And what better way to show my love for this city than by spreading the joy of pink tutus, of course! I just adore the fact that New Yorkers are always open to a bit of silliness. My pink tutu caused a little bit of a stir at a busy farmer’s market in Brooklyn (as usual!) as I danced my way around the colourful stalls! The vendor selling freshly picked blueberries gave me an enormous grin and told me “it’s never too early to embrace a little fun in the morning, girl!” And to this, I say, “Hear, hear! 🎉

And What's On?

This weekend, New York is buzzing with exciting events. From Shakespeare in the Park in Central Park to a huge street fair in Lower Manhattan, I'm already busy planning my itinerary! Oh, and did I mention there's a ballet workshop taking place at the iconic Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater I simply must attend! The founder’s stories always remind me of what’s possible through passion and hard work.

New York City: always an inspiring and endlessly entertaining place to be!

I’m off now to visit the Central Park Zoo - have any of you been? I love visiting new zoos and discovering new animals, and this zoo is an absolute dream, I heard. If it is half as charming as the giraffes are, I know it will be a fab time! And let me tell you - these animal babies always give me a little extra pep in my step! 🦒🥰

Don't forget to follow my pink tutu adventures on social media (links below)! And remember, darling, even if you aren’t in New York, the spirit of the city, the magic of ballet, and the joy of wearing a pink tutu are available everywhere!

Until next week, remember to be bold, embrace the dance, and wear that pink tutu with pride! 💖
