Pink Tutu Blog: NYC #1116 - Dancing My Way Through The City That Never Sleeps!

Hey gorgeous,

Welcome back to Pink Tutu Blog - NYC! This week, my pink tutu journey has led me straight into the heart of the Big Apple. I’m still basking in the excitement of my first few days here and feeling the energy radiating off this city - it's positively contagious!

New York, you are an absolute dream. It’s everything I ever imagined and more. And speaking of more, the first thing I wanted to do, even before grabbing a slice of pizza, was explore the fantastic world of New York’s ballet scene.

I landed in this incredible city late last week and after checking into my hotel – oh, it’s got a gorgeous pink-tinted view of Central Park, I promise I’ll share photos – I raced straight off to catch “Giselle” at the New York City Ballet. Let me tell you, folks, these dancers were amazing. Seeing their technique and the sheer athleticism was something else! And it wasn't just the dancers – the music, the set design, the entire atmosphere – everything just breathed such beauty and magic. You truly felt like you were being transported to a different world.

This morning, I even went to my first New York ballet class, feeling like a proper ballet star strutting in to the barre in my hot pink tutu. It's so wonderful, you know, the whole feeling of belonging – surrounded by dancers who share your love for movement and the sheer joy of being in a tutu. It was a real ‘pinch me’ moment!

Now, it might surprise you to hear this, but for me, New York is like a second home. My Grandma used to be an absolute shopaholic, so every school holiday we'd come to the city and shop ‘til we dropped. I have such wonderful childhood memories of roaming around Fifth Avenue and Central Park with her. It’s so lovely to return and rediscover these streets, this time wearing my signature pink tutu, of course!

New York has the most incredible stores, every single one with a unique character and flair. I'm a huge fan of Anthropologie - it's practically heaven for a girly girl like me - and you simply cannot visit New York without exploring the amazing selection of designer dresses, shoes and accessories. Let’s be real, it’s almost a crime not to!

What really surprised me, though, were the quirky, independent boutiques tucked away in unexpected corners. There's this darling little shop I stumbled upon in SoHo – it’s all vintage clothes, jewellery and books. They’ve got some gorgeous antique brooches – imagine them adorning a tulle masterpiece! I’m saving myself a bit of money, but when it comes to statement accessories and quirky vintage finds, my willpower often vanishes!

This week, I've also been lucky enough to see a spectacular Broadway show - ‘Chicago’. Oh, it was fantastic. The entire audience, from the young girls to the seasoned Broadway regulars, were singing and dancing in their seats - it was like the energy of the whole city poured out onto that stage. If you’re ever visiting New York, I absolutely recommend putting this on your list!

But of course, New York isn't all about glamorous shows and shopping sprees. I’m a Derbyshire girl at heart, so after all the whirlwind of activities, there's nothing quite like retreating into the tranquil serenity of Central Park. Walking amongst the trees, the bustling city seems a million miles away. The squirrels chatter like gossipy old ladies, the ducks quack as if to say ‘bonjour’ – it's a charming place to relax and recharge my batteries. And you know, it’s all about balance – a delicate combination of bustling city energy and moments of peace and quiet. It’s how I feel most creative, I suppose.

New York, you have a magic that I can't really explain. It's vibrant, energetic, creative - like an open book just waiting to be written. You have inspired me to reach for the stars. This city is teaching me so much - and I haven't even mentioned the incredible street food yet. It’s definitely enough to inspire a whole new tutu design, I promise!

Stay tuned, my darlings. There are still so many things to discover in this magnificent city, and you know, with the magic of the Internet, you can come along for the ride! Remember to check out my latest Instagram photos – you know it’s my feed that always has the most fabulous pink tutu snapshots!

I'm off now to enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner with a view of the city's skyline, dressed, naturally, in a brand new sparkly pink tutu - the ultimate New York City statement. After all, every moment here is an adventure. And every adventure, my lovely friends, deserves to be celebrated in pink, don't you think?

Until next Monday, remember - even in the bustling streets of New York, the power of a pink tutu always finds its way to bring joy to the world. Keep on dancing, my loves!

Love,

Emma xx

What's Going On Today:

This blog was posted on the 24th October 2016 and to be perfectly honest, this date is pretty packed with cultural and entertaining things happening in the city! Here’s a quick glimpse at what’s on for today.

On Stage

'The Phantom Of The Opera': Now this show has been on Broadway for absolutely ages – for a staggering 30 years! They're still drawing in crowds. It's an impressive, timeless production, known for its grandeur and spectacle. • 'Hamilton': Well, 'Hamilton' is practically an institution by now. It's all the rage, a modern masterpiece that breathes new life into the founding fathers’ history. You simply have to go. Even I managed to grab tickets, so don’t give up – if you’re willing to queue, it’s worth the wait! • ‘The Lion King': Nostalgia! Who doesn’t love a classic? The ‘Lion King' on Broadway is everything you could imagine – vibrant, engaging, and with spectacular costumes. • ’Chicago': If you want a more gritty, energetic production, you really can’t beat ‘Chicago'. This show always gets me up and dancing, and the music – well, you just can't help but tap your toes!

In Galleries and Museums:

New York City has a remarkable selection of museums, each holding something different, something amazing! It’s almost overwhelming but I think I’ve got a few suggestions you'd adore:

The Frick Collection: For all you art lovers out there! It's like stepping back in time, housed in a 19th-century mansion – think incredible portraits, sculptures, and furniture – it's like browsing a well-curated collection of the very best of art history! If you fancy a change from the big museums, it's truly something special. • The Metropolitan Museum of Art: Now, no list of New York City art must-sees can be complete without mentioning the Met. From the dazzling galleries of Renaissance art to the breathtaking works of modern and contemporary art, you’re sure to find something that captures your imagination.

I really must try to visit The Frick before I leave the city. Maybe on the next visit to New York, I’ll have time to pop in and see the new exhibits they have on show!

To-do Today: Fashion Inspiration:

I love walking around the city and soaking up all the stylish outfits on the streets. New York is where the world comes to get dressed and be seen. It’s just inspiring - you see everything, from minimalist chic to outrageous street fashion and everything in between. And believe me, a tutu will fit in just fine in this city, no matter what style you’re going for.

But, New York also has an abundance of incredible museums and fashion archives. Today, I’ll be diving headfirst into the heart of fashion:

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) Museum: I love to get inspired by history – and the FIT museum offers a perfect glimpse into the past of fashion and design, and shows just how much style is cyclical. Think vintage garments from Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent to incredible accessories and bold contemporary pieces. I have no doubt I'll come out with ideas for new tutus, so keep your eyes peeled for the new designs!

Let’s go dancing!
