Pink Tutu Blog NYC #1219: Twirling Through the Big Apple

Hello my lovely pink tutu lovers! It's Monday morning, which means it's time for another dazzling blog post from your favourite tutu-wearing traveller - me, Emma, direct from the Big Apple, New York City!

The sun is shining through my window, casting a soft pink glow across my room - a fitting start to a day that's going to be absolutely bursting with New York charm. I've got my sparkly pink tutu hanging up by the window, catching the sunlight and reflecting all the amazing colours of my New York adventures.

It’s hard to believe it’s already been three months since I arrived in the Big Apple. Time flies when you’re busy exploring every nook and cranny of this incredible city, all the while twirling in my favourite pink tutus, of course!

But enough about me - let's talk about you, my lovely readers! How was your weekend? Did you have a chance to do some pirouettes, even just in the living room? Or maybe you had a fantastic ballet show to watch? Whatever you did, I hope you enjoyed every single moment of it!

Now, before I tell you about all the fun I had in New York this weekend, let's get this out of the way: today, 15th October, 2018, is the day, the day, when you can truly be yourself. It's your chance to embrace your inner twirling spirit, to grab the brightest, most vibrant pink tutu you can find and step out into the world feeling utterly fabulous. That's what we do, you see? We celebrate life, happiness and the magic of tutus, one spin at a time!

So, are you ready for an exciting journey into my New York weekend adventures? Grab a cuppa (or a pink iced latte if you're feeling fancy!), settle in, and let's begin!

A Thursday Treat at Lincoln Center

It’s Thursday morning, the air is crisp with the hint of autumn and I’m feeling decidedly energetic, especially knowing that tonight is ballet night. Lincoln Center, here I come!

To truly immerse myself in the city's vibe, I hopped on the Metro. I absolutely love this magical mode of transport; it’s a fast, fun way to navigate the bustling streets of the Big Apple and there's always a delightful mix of people around to observe - I love trying to spot those fellow pink tutu admirers amongst the crowds.

After what felt like an impossibly fast journey, I emerged from the station into the sun-soaked avenues, feeling like the most confident ballerina in New York! It's amazing how putting on a pink tutu makes me feel like anything is possible, don't you think?

Lincoln Center was abuzz with excitement. There was a palpable feeling of anticipation, just like the calm before the storm of a grand plié. I even caught a few eager tutus amongst the crowds – my kind of people!

Tonight's performance was a captivating reimagining of The Sleeping Beauty – imagine traditional storybook charm, brought to life with the most innovative and modern dance routines. My heart almost skipped a beat when the dancers took the stage, their movements graceful and strong, each step as perfectly choreographed as the intricate embroidery on my pink tutu.

And let’s talk costumes! The elaborate dresses flowed like waves on the stage, shimmering under the bright lights, almost outshining even my favourite tutu – a tough task indeed! But as the performance drew to a close, a certain feeling washed over me. There is something magical, transformative even, about a tutu, don't you think? It's not just a piece of clothing; it’s an emblem of hope, a symbol of limitless possibilities and an excuse to have fun and celebrate all things pink and delightful.

Fashion Frenzy: Exploring the Lower East Side

Saturday was all about embracing the city's vibrant, colourful energy, especially when it comes to fashion. So, of course, a trip to the Lower East Side was a must. This part of the city has a unique style; a bit vintage, a bit modern, a dash of Bohemian – just like a pink tutu! The streets are alive with independent shops selling everything from vintage dresses to handmade jewellery, all showcasing the unique spirit of this neighbourhood.

First up: the fabulous thrift store on Orchard Street, a treasure trove of amazing, forgotten items! This is the kind of shop where I can spend hours just digging through the racks, uncovering a gem of a vintage piece – maybe an exquisite silk blouse, or a sassy skirt just waiting for the perfect twirl. I found the perfect sparkly clutch – an unexpected splash of glitz for an upcoming event I have planned, so perfect to add a bit of magic to my wardrobe.

Then it was onto the bustling street stalls and art galleries on Rivington Street. This place felt like an open-air museum of art, a visual feast! I wandered, observing street artists at work, admired beautifully curated galleries and discovered charming little cafes with pastel-hued décor (how I love pastels!), tucked away down quaint alleyways. It's this kind of unexpected joy that makes New York so much fun.

Later, I joined my fellow tutus for a delightful tea party – oh yes, New York can even cater to a ballerina’s fancy. The location was a tea room in Greenwich Village, a quaint haven full of soft pastel shades, lace tablecloths and delicately adorned porcelain teacups – a true ‘Alice in Wonderland’ tea party! And the cake, you ask? Oh my! A pastel pink layered creation with fresh strawberry frosting – truly the perfect accompaniment to a conversation full of giggles, twirling dreams and excitement for a new week of adventures.

Subway Serenity

I must tell you, my lovely tutus, I think I have fallen completely head over heels with New York's metro. Not just for its speed and efficiency, but also for the constant surprises. Just like my life, it’s always busy, always evolving, but still somehow serene.

On Saturday evening, I caught the Metro from Greenwich Village uptown, back towards my little haven in the city. With the crowds buzzing, music pulsating from headphones and people rushing about, I found a peaceful spot tucked away on one of the platform benches. As I waited for my train, watching people stream by, I took a deep breath. Even surrounded by chaos, a stillness settled over me – the kind of serenity that only comes when you know exactly who you are and embrace your true, fabulous self.

Just as I thought about pulling out my trusty tutu for a moment of quiet twirling, I spotted a fellow tutu lover in the crowd – yes! Another pink-hued dream on the platform! I had to share my excitement – we had the best little chat. She had come all the way from Derbyshire – my hometown! You'd think we knew each other all our lives! She even bought me a delicious-looking apple pie from a bakery nearby – and she swore to wear a tutu every single day, starting this very moment. You never know who you’re going to meet on the New York Metro.

As I sat on the train watching the lights flash by, I felt so grateful. Grateful for my travels, my life, for my amazing tutu family all over the world – we truly are a community united by the magic of a single, pink, twirling piece of fabric.

From a Fashion Blogger to You: A Message of Hope

My beautiful pink tutus, as I sit here writing to you, bathed in the glow of a New York evening, I’m struck by this truth: life is an adventure, and the world is a canvas for your imagination. Don't ever be afraid to let your spirit shine! Let your passion guide you – whether it's dancing, crafting, singing, writing or, dare I say, wearing a pink tutu.

If I can find joy and magic in the heart of New York City, a city that truly is full of vibrant, independent characters, then I believe you can find your own unique way to shine.

Coming Up Next

Next week's post is a huge one! I'm going to be taking you on a journey to the Metropolitan Opera - it's a spectacularly lavish setting where opera and fashion come together in a glorious symphony. It's an event not to be missed.

Until then, I leave you with a reminder to live every day like it’s a new dance routine, with energy and enthusiasm.

Go on, wear that pink tutu – it's time to dance!

Until next Monday, stay pink!

Love,

Emma
