Pink Tutu Blog NYC #1327: Twirling through Times Square
Hello darlings! It's Monday, and that means it's time for a fresh new Pink Tutu Blog post from your favourite ballet-loving, tutu-wearing, fashion-obsessed girl, Emma! This week, I'm straight from the heart of New York City, and oh, my sweet pea, it's been a whirlwind of a few days!
Before I launch into the glorious details of my adventure, a little update from Derbyshire. It feels like ages since I left the cobbled streets of my home town, but I have a date to pencil in your diaries: Saturday the 21st! I'm back at the Derby Theatre for a one-off performance with the delightful "Dancing Delights" company. Expect a whirlwind of colour, graceful moves, and yes, you guessed it, a pink tutu (or three!).
Now back to the bright lights of the Big Apple! This past week has been a whirlwind of sparkly tutus, elegant shows, and fashion finds so fabulous I'm practically bouncing off the walls (which, let's be honest, is not entirely impossible when you're wearing a tutu). I arrived in New York City with a suitcase full of colour, excitement, and a very important pink tutu. And yes, I wore it right away!
My first day in New York started with a pit stop at a fantastic little café near my hotel, where I tucked into the most delicious slice of pecan pie. I don't think they do pie quite like this back in Derbyshire, so it's safe to say I was in a bit of heaven! After fueling up with sugar and happiness, I ventured out into the hustle and bustle of New York City.
This being my third visit to the city, I was already well acquainted with the thrill of navigating the subway system. It's a dance in itself, truly! So many people, so many different outfits, all flowing in and out of the carriages. It's almost a performance, isn't it? I especially enjoyed spotting people with their own distinct fashion sense – from those wearing colourful berets to others rocking bold prints, the fashion scene in the New York subway is a true visual feast.
The journey to Lincoln Centre, my first destination, is a testament to the fact that no two journeys in New York are ever the same. I felt like I was walking through a human kaleidoscope, a swirling blend of styles, nationalities, and ambitions. The atmosphere was electric, and the energy of the city simply invigorated me. It's contagious!
My heart fluttered when I reached Lincoln Center. It was the beginning of a delightful evening filled with the grace of ballet and the beauty of storytelling. This time, it was the "Royal Ballet" performance of "Romeo & Juliet." I have a special affinity for the classic tale, and this rendition didn't disappoint.
Imagine, darlings, being swept up in the passion of Juliet's love, the drama of Romeo's fate, and the raw emotion conveyed through the silent language of movement. The music, the costumes, the staging – every detail of the show brought me to the brink of tears at times, and filled me with joy in others. I love the way ballet manages to transcend language and capture the deepest human experiences through movement. It's an incredible art form, and I can't imagine a better way to spend a New York City evening.
The next morning, I decided to start the day with a spot of retail therapy. Let's be honest, a girl needs a bit of shopping after such an emotionally draining show! It felt almost as though my body, used to the grace of ballet movements, simply required the comfort of a shopping spree! So, I wandered into Bloomingdale's, a magical wonderland of fashion, shoes, and, oh, my favourite, handbags. Bloomingdale's, it is quite the fashion haven for the serious shopping aficionado like me. Every colour and style imaginable, right there on the racks, waiting to be explored! It felt a little like being on stage, but with shoes instead of tutus. You might be thinking I went for the glittery heels or a statement clutch... you're probably wrong! Of course, a cute pink tulle bag was on my list (it goes with everything, really!). But it was a fabulous pastel-blue satin top that stole my heart. My wardrobe was begging for this sweet number!
After a few hours browsing, I felt a rumble in my tummy and my brain told me: "Emma, it's time for the Big Apple to be experienced. New York is calling. It's time for a delicious slice of pizza! "
And so it was. A glorious cheesy, spicy pizza! What a quintessential New York moment! And then a delightful coffee and cinnamon bun at one of those cute little shops dotted around Times Square, so delicious and Instagram-worthy. It's safe to say my day was an absolute success!
The highlight of the day though was yet to come! In the evening, I ventured down to Broadway. Seeing a show in the theatre district was a true bucket-list moment. I'm not going to lie, I had tears in my eyes watching "Chicago." What a performance! The costumes were flamboyant, the energy was electric, and the story itself was utterly captivating! Seeing those performers embrace their characters with such power, such charisma, reminded me of my own love for performance. The audience were on the edge of their seats, mesmerised by every tap, every song, every twist of the plot. Oh, if only I had a pink tutu in the audience!
The week was packed with more amazing experiences: a delightful tour of Central Park, where I spotted several "Central Park ballerinas" with the cutest tiny tutus. Who would have thought this could be a thing, right?
And on Friday, I stumbled upon the most magical street performer! He was playing the most beautiful violin melodies, his passion and skill pouring into his every note. This street performer reminded me of how beautiful music can be. His melodies had that same sort of enchanting quality that I find in ballet – the ability to speak to the soul without a single word.
So here I am, darling, wrapping up this wonderful week in New York City. I feel utterly inspired! The energy here is unlike anything I've experienced before. This city is truly a vibrant tapestry of creativity, energy, and above all, a love for all things glamorous and inspiring. There's an air of magic and possibility here that gets you feeling on top of the world!
And my mission remains the same: to spread the joy of the pink tutu! Who knows, maybe I'll even find someone in New York who's willing to dance with me on a subway platform…
Until next week, stay twirling,

Pink Tutu Blog: Fashion Finds
My top fashion pick for this week is absolutely, without a doubt, the pastel-blue satin top I discovered at Bloomingdale's. The material is simply dreamy – it feels like a whisper against your skin, and it drapes beautifully, with just the right amount of flow. It has a very feminine, delicate vibe, which makes me feel like a princess (only much cooler!). And with its light blue hue, it matches perfectly with my pink tutu, obviously!
I'm thinking of wearing it with my high-waisted, flared skirt for my Derby Theatre performance on the 21st.

Pink Tutu Blog: The Power of Pink
While it was great to find a new pink accessory this week, a cute little bag, nothing beats my old pink tutu. I'm reminded how important it is to find your personal style, and wear what makes you feel confident and fabulous. And for me, nothing screams confidence quite like a pink tutu. But it isn't just the color or the tutu, darlings! I want you to consider the attitude. You can wear a tutu with your own confidence and flair! You know, just like my new pastel blue top. It's not pink, but it makes me feel like a fairytale princess!
For my next adventures in pink (because they never end), I plan on having a new "Pink Tutu Day" event at the Derbyshire Theatre after my performance, so keep your eyes peeled for the announcements on the Pink Tutu website!
Stay fabulous, stay pink!
