Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #1330 - A Pink Tutu in the Big Apple 🍎✨

Hello my darling tutus! It’s Emma, back with another instalment of my New York adventures from my little pink-tutu-filled corner of the world.

As you all know, I'm a true believer that a bit of pink tutu magic can brighten even the gloomiest day, and New York City, with its relentless energy and glittering lights, is the perfect backdrop for my tutus. So, buckle up, grab a cuppa and get ready to immerse yourselves in a little pink-hued excitement!

Monday Mayhem

This week's blog takes us right back to the beginning of November, the 30th to be exact, and let me tell you, it was a cracker. I started my day, as I often do, by hitting the pavement and making my way to my favourite metro station - oh the sheer beauty of those subway tiles, each one gleaming like a miniature stage under the flickering neon lights! My outfit of choice today was a shocking pink tutu, naturally, paired with a classic black leather jacket and knee-high boots - it's all about that fabulous juxtaposition, don't you think?

My destination? A rehearsal at the magnificent Steps on Broadway studio. You might think, "Emma, darling, haven't you been to New York a hundred times? Don't you know the steps yet?" To which I say, "Nonsense!" Every studio in this city feels like a fresh adventure, each one bubbling with energy and passion. This time, it was a ballet workshop focused on contemporary dance and boy oh boy, did it test my pink-tutu-wearing strength. Those hip movements - well, let's just say it wasn't a tutu-friendly routine. Thankfully, I brought my trusty fold-away bag for storing the tutu - one of my little "pink-tutu-travel" essentials - and swapped it for some snazzy, flowy trousers perfect for showing off those extended limbs! I don't know about you dears, but sometimes I feel like I am so much closer to the heart of New York City when I'm in a studio, soaking up the passion, the discipline, the energy! And as an extra treat? We were learning a sequence by the famous Christopher Wheeldon, who was guest teaching, and his work was absolutely stunning!

A Bit of Parisian Flair

Later that evening, I whisked myself away from the bustling streets of Manhattan, grabbed my trusty pink-tutu shopping bag - another essential, trust me! - and popped across the East River. You may know Brooklyn, my darlings, but the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM)? A treasure trove of artistic expression, nestled right in the heart of downtown Brooklyn, waiting to enchant! I was headed for the BAM Opera and what an evening it was. We were graced by a Parisian company known for their dramatic Carmen, with breathtaking costumes and voices that filled the entire space with their operatic passion. As I settled in for the performance, it occurred to me that some of the finest opera singers have probably walked these very corridors.

One of my greatest pleasures while travelling is watching a new company’s work. The Parisian touch is just what this season needed - I've noticed New Yorkers are all about classical style - even my taxi driver this week said he just started appreciating the little details.

A glass of sparkling wine at the BAMcafe , an exquisite and intricately-detailed opera (with an astonishing Carmen in red), and the delightful chatter from fellow theatre-goers, all make this the ideal place to immerse myself in a cultural extravaganza, especially with a touch of French charm.

NYC Through Rose-Tinted Tutu Goggles

After the opera, I treated myself to some pink delights - what else? – from a tiny French patisserie, with pink rose macarons and tiny, perfect Parisian gateaux. (I must confess that when I got back to my hotel, I had another macaron in my pink-tutu-embellished pyjamas, because we can't leave a beautiful macaron all alone, can we?)

There's something truly magical about watching the city shift and change, almost imperceptibly, as the day becomes night. The sun slips below the horizon, casting a warm, orange glow on the skyscrapers, the city lights flicker on, a myriad of colors splashing across the skyline - and then, like magic, New York becomes a kaleidoscope of shimmering delights!

Oh, and for all the ballet aficionados among you, you must add The Met Opera and The Lincoln Center to your to-do list. This week, I saw Romeo and Juliet - so incredibly touching, the performance of the dancers was sublime, and of course, my outfit of choice was my favourite ballerina pink tutu paired with a stylish navy blazer. There’s something rather fabulous about that dramatic contrast - you simply have to experiment with that in your own personal pink-tutu ensembles.

The Heartbeat of New York

New York City truly never sleeps! As I make my way around this city, from the tranquil studios, to the bustling Broadway stage and the glamorous BAM, there's an undeniable energy coursing through its veins - the thrum of life, the thrill of creativity, the anticipation of what lies around the next corner. I love that I’m surrounded by fellow artists - actors, dancers, singers - constantly seeking, pushing the boundaries and igniting that beautiful passion that keeps this incredible city dancing!

For this tutu-tastic week, I'm leaving you with the most wonderful thought: Embrace every single bit of New York magic and keep that pink-tutu spirit shining through - a little bit of glamour, a whole lot of confidence - you'll never know where it might take you! And do stay tuned for more Pink Tutu Blog posts, because I’m certainly not ready to leave the glitter and glamour of the Big Apple just yet!

Now, let's keep those twirling shoes and those pink tutus ready to embrace the week ahead!
Until next time, my darlings, keep the magic alive!

### * Fashion Note:*

You know me! There is nothing I love more than a fabulous outfit, and a good New York City ensemble needs to be not only visually stunning but also practical! This week, my love for bright colours - particularly my beloved pink! - and my dedication to practical glamour are reflected in this New York look:

  • Tutus: My faithful, perfectly fluffy, ballerina pink tulle tutu – this tutu is a must-have! It always receives so many compliments and is a perfect match for almost any New York outing - from a trip to a museum, to an afternoon tea at the iconic Plaza Hotel, or to a walk in Central Park. It is the true embodiment of elegance and comfort.
  • Footwear: My trusty black knee-high boots for navigating the busy city streets - they offer both style and practicality! This boot is essential - with a touch of height, I find that my legs look sleek and long (and that’s exactly what you need in a city like New York) - and I also like the fact they can transition smoothly from a casual daytime look to a slightly more sophisticated evening outfit! You really can’t beat the versatility of these!

    • A hint of Parisian Flair: As I said, a few extra Parisian elements for a stylish touch: A sleek black blazer, for adding some formality without sacrificing on comfort, and for when the New York evenings chill. And for the grand finale, I have been known to adorn myself with the chicest scarf with some Parisian chic! This scarf adds the final flourish and just a little touch of sophisticated luxury.
Let's make a statement!
