Pink Tutu Blog: NYC Monday 2021-09-13 - New York City's Pink Princess
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu wearing ballerina blogger, back with another dazzling diary entry from the bustling streets of New York City!
Today marks the glorious number 1371 in my ongoing chronicle of fashion, frolicking and fantastic performances - all proudly splashed across my digital kingdom at www.pink-tutu.com! This week, I'm back in my beloved New York, my home away from home, where the energy is infectious, the possibilities endless, and the fashion oh-so-fierce.
For a Derbyshire girl like me, a trip to New York City is a constant whirlwind of inspiration. I can't help but be swept up in the whirlwind of vibrant personalities, from the elegant shoppers in their chic boutiques to the colourful artists showcasing their works in street corners, to the glamorous dancers showcasing their artistry in the city's iconic theatres. This week has been a smorgasbord of artistic delights and glamorous outings.
This Monday morning, I awoke to the gentle rumble of the subway – New York's lifeline. The rhythmic clanging is as much a part of the city's soul as its iconic skyscrapers. It’s how I choose to travel - not only is it economical but it’s also a fantastic opportunity to observe the people of New York. A true melting pot of individuality, there are fascinating faces to be spotted everywhere. A young lady sporting an eye-catching shade of pink lipstick, a businessman with his nose in a thick newspaper, a group of teenagers huddled around their mobile phones, giggling - the streets of New York are a constant source of intrigue!
And, of course, I wouldn't be true to my Pink Tutu persona if I didn't have a delightful ensemble prepared for this jaunt. Today, I'm adorned in a vintage blush pink tulle tutu with an oversized white bow and matching silk gloves, paired with a stunning crimson velvet jacket, just to add a hint of daring to my signature girly look.
Today's schedule is a delectable mix of the artistic and the fashionable. Firstly, I'm heading to the "Martha Graham Dance Company" to see a mesmerizing piece choreographed by the legend herself. There's nothing like watching a true icon in action.
Afterward, I'm heading down to Fifth Avenue to sample the delightful offerings at Bergdorf Goodman. Their shoe department alone could make a grown woman swoon. It's a true temple to luxury, and every pair is a work of art. Who can resist a shoe that practically dances for you?
This evening, the theatre calls. Tonight, the "American Ballet Theatre" is performing Swan Lake at the Lincoln Center, and I'm not missing it for the world. Watching those ballerinas effortlessly navigate the stage in their white tutus - it’s nothing short of magical. The beauty of their movements, the raw emotion in every step, it's breathtaking. I'm already lost in anticipation of seeing the magic unfold on stage!
However, New York is about more than just world-renowned dance and fashion. It’s about experiencing the everyday magic woven into the fabric of the city. It’s the little details that make New York so captivating – the aroma of freshly baked pretzels in a street-side stall, the friendly chat with the barista in my favourite cafe, the burst of laughter from a group of friends sharing a picnic in Central Park. Each experience adds a sprinkle of magic to my days in New York City.
And of course, what trip to New York is complete without an adventure into the world of fashion?
I'm absolutely smitten with this season's fall fashion! Think sumptuous textures, rich autumnal hues and bold statement pieces. From velvet jumpsuits in deep crimson and emerald to chunky knitted cardigans paired with flowing maxi skirts, I'm spoilt for choice. This is a city that encourages individuality and embraces your most daring style choices!
My love affair with New York extends far beyond the dance studios and shopping havens. It’s about absorbing the infectious energy that pulses through this captivating city, the people, their dreams, their ambitions.
There is a unique buzz here that makes even a Derbyshire girl like me want to dance in the streets. I may be just one pink-tutu clad ballerina amongst millions, but my message to you, darling, is this: Wear your heart on your sleeve, wear your tutu with pride, and dance like nobody’s watching! After all, that's the true essence of this beautiful, vibrant city - and I hope to see you all here next Monday!
Don't forget to share your favourite moments in New York City with me! Use #PinkTutuNYC and I might just feature your photo or message in a future post. Until then, keep dancing and spread the joy of tutus!
Love,
Emma x
The Week in Fashion & Events
This week in New York City has been brimming with sartorial inspiration and a dash of culture. Here are a few of my favourites:
- The Metropolitan Opera – Their current production of Verdi's "Aida" is visually stunning! I highly recommend it.
- Bryant Park's Fashion Week - I popped in for a peek and was awestruck by the dazzling displays of emerging fashion designers.
- "Art in the Park" at Bryant Park – Every Wednesday evening, Bryant Park comes alive with a range of arts and crafts activities. From painting to pottery, there's something for everyone to try their hand at!
- "The Great Pumpkin" display at Macy's – Fall is officially here, and I couldn’t resist stopping by to marvel at their iconic Halloween window displays.
I've also been loving exploring new culinary delights. Here are a few food gems you shouldn't miss:
- Junior's Restaurant: Classic New York cheesecake – there's just no comparison.
- Doughnut Plant: Donuts made with a delectable selection of innovative flavours and fillings.
- Shake Shack: For juicy, delicious burgers with an array of toppings.
My Favourite New York Tip
Don’t just stick to the main tourist attractions! Dive into the local culture by taking a walk through charming neighborhoods like Greenwich Village, Soho or Brooklyn Heights. You’ll find yourself immersed in the spirit of the city, discovering hidden gems like antique shops, charming boutiques and trendy cafes.
New York City never ceases to amaze, and I can't wait to discover what adventures await next week!
Stay fabulous!

Post Script
And, because I love sharing all my favourite pink tutu inspiration, here are a few finds that have been brightening my week:
Shopping Spree
- I discovered a gorgeous little shop in SoHo called "Whimsy & Wishes". It has an array of delightful tutus in every imaginable colour and style. I just had to indulge myself with a vibrant teal number. I’m dreaming of twirling in it under the twinkling lights of Times Square!
- I found the perfect pair of dancing shoes at “The Dance Studio” - a local shop near my apartment that specializes in all things ballet. Their collection of soft pink satin ballet slippers had me practically dancing on the spot.
"Sugarplum Vintage" in Brooklyn is a true gem. They have an extensive collection of gorgeous vintage pieces, many of which have inspired my recent wardrobe updates.
Pink Tutu Fun
Did you know that a pink tutu inspired the design for a new shade of pink lipstick? Isn’t that delightful?
- A pink tutu was featured as part of a recent museum exhibition showcasing the history of ballet. I think they should have an entire gallery dedicated to the pink tutu!
- The famous choreographer, Baryshnikov, revealed in an interview that his favourite colour is pink! He’s such a fabulous role model - we've got a lot in common.
My fellow tutu-lovers, let’s continue to celebrate pink, embrace tutus, and fill the world with joy!
