#PinkTutuBlogNYC - Monday 2022-05-02: New York, New York, It's a Wonderful Life!
Welcome back to the #PinkTutuBlogNYC, my dears! This week, it’s time to put on your fanciest tutus and dust off your tap shoes – it's another thrilling Monday and we’re ready to shimmy our way through the streets of the Big Apple! This is post #1404 on the Pink-Tutu Blog, and if you haven't already, hop over to www.pink-tutu.com for a fabulous selection of back-posts on fashion, travel, ballet, and of course, those glorious pink tutus!
It feels like just yesterday I was sipping Earl Grey in Derbyshire, reminiscing about the grand opening of the “The Little Ballerina’s Emporium” in Bakewell, and here I am, surrounded by the vibrancy and energy of New York City.
Last week's post focused on the enchanting “La Bayadère” at the Metropolitan Opera House, where I swooned over the opulent sets and graceful ballerinas. I can’t believe it’s been a week already; time truly does fly when you're twirling in tutus!
Speaking of twirling, have you heard? This week is "New York City Ballet Week," where every theatre and studio in the city celebrates the magical art of ballet. So many free classes, workshops, and performances! If you happen to be in the city this week, you absolutely have to check out the schedule, it's going to be fabulous! I've got my eye on a couple of dance classes and the world premiere of a new work by Justin Peck – that one's a definite "must-see," don’t you think?
But before I jump headfirst into all that exciting ballet-mania, I thought it'd be delightful to share a little snippet of my week so far. And trust me, darlings, it's been packed with pink and tulle!
A Monday in the City That Never Sleeps: A Fashion Frenzy and a Metro Moment
After arriving at the Grand Central Station, I hopped onto the subway and oohed and aahed over the beautiful murals at Times Square station. You know I love a little bit of art on my morning commute! It’s actually so much easier to navigate this bustling metropolis by metro – trust me! So, hop on a train and get a little lost in the beauty of New York's intricate underground world – you never know what hidden treasures you might find. I think there are even some hidden shops and coffee cafes under the city; maybe I'll investigate next week.
Speaking of treasure, oh my dear! There was a wonderful fashion store with all these incredible bright pink accessories – the colour pink is certainly alive and well in this city! You can just tell that New York knows what’s up when it comes to fabulousness. It is an absolute fashion paradise, but the really good part? So much of the pink fashion is completely on-trend - I’ve definitely picked up some pieces I just had to have! They're all being tucked away in my little ballet bag, waiting for the grand reveal in my next post. Let’s just say there’s an elegant pink handbag with matching tulle, and you know me, a tutu just wouldn't be complete without a matching hat! Oh! The little beret with the glittery pin, I simply had to!
Let's Talk about the Ballet, Darling!
So, today, my lovelies, we were attending a matinée of “The Sleeping Beauty” at Lincoln Center. It was positively stunning. Tchaikovsky’s score just melted my heart. There's nothing like seeing such delicate artistry up close - those grand pirouettes and those beautifully extended arabesques were simply breathtaking. Oh, and the costumes? Absolute dreams in shimmering silks and jewel-toned velvet! The Prince's costume was divine. I believe the choreography is from the legendary Marius Petipa! I do so love the classic style, and I definitely plan on doing some reading up on him. I can't wait to share the most spectacular images with you next week, it will be a real "eye candy" blog. You will want to steal the ballerina’s wardrobe, but darling, no pinching please! I'm actually considering buying myself a new sparkly tutu – who can resist the elegance of a tulle twirl? But I have a whole new array of things to add to my ballet wardrobe, and it is a very expensive pursuit! Don’t forget that your financial backing for these beautiful experiences comes from my weekly performances in the city. And let’s not forget those “tutu-rific” tours!
I will always give back to my fans. After all, who else could you have on your ballet blog but the original Pink Tutu Ballerina?!
Time for Tea!
The evening, of course, started with afternoon tea at Bergdorf Goodman's, a haven for any fashionista. There’s no denying that this tea is definitely an “experience.” I sampled a selection of exquisitely crafted tea sandwiches and petit fours, which were just as elegant as the tea itself. You’d think, “Ooh Emma, you are posh and elegant” wouldn’t you? But I always find time to visit a coffee shop too! Coffee and a bagel for my post-tea energy kick, with just enough sugar and spice to fuel the ballet journey ahead. Oh, and my trusty bag full of fashion treasures – I’ve still got to show you all those incredible, perfectly pink, must-have accessories!
The Magic of a Performance
I've always said that nothing compares to the joy of seeing a live performance. It's such a privilege to be part of this vibrant world where art comes to life right before your eyes, every time I go out in the city for an evening of art, the experience takes on new meaning. Even after years of ballet, and all these blogs, my heart still melts with happiness when the music swells, the curtains rise, and the magic begins. There’s no place like New York for truly unforgettable performances.
Final Thoughts: Pink Tutus, Bright Lights, and a Bit of Glamour
It’s getting a bit late so it’s off to bed, darling! Time to don my little pink nightdress, prepare my pink ballet bag for tomorrow’s Pink Tutu adventures – what else would it be?
As we reach the end of this post, my darlings, remember to dance, to explore, and to embrace the magic of every moment, just as the dancers do! We'll catch you again next Monday.
See you then!
