Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post Number 1428: She Danced in New York City!

Monday 17th October 2022

Hello darling! It's Emma here, bringing you a delightful dose of pink and tutus from the heart of New York City! As the crisp autumn air swirled around my pink tulle skirt, I couldn't help but feel a sense of giddy excitement - after all, today was the day I'd been dreaming about: My first ballet class in New York City!

Now, I'm sure you know the feeling. That fluttering, exhilarating feeling when you're about to embark on a new adventure, especially one you've dreamt of for years. It's a bit like the magic of putting on your favourite pink tutu, isn't it? It transports you to a place where anything is possible. And with the iconic skyscrapers of Manhattan surrounding me, that feeling was magnified tenfold.

But first things first - a bit of "Emma's Fashion Corner" as we say in Derbyshire. Because no day in New York City is complete without a touch of Parisian flair. I found myself at the delightful "Oh La La" boutique on Bleecker Street. It was a whirlwind of gorgeous floral dresses, feathered boas, and of course, pink! I found the most divine satin dress with a shimmering pink sequined pattern - just perfect for the evening's ballet performance at the Lincoln Center!

Now, my darling readers, I've mentioned it before, but you know me - I love public transport! The hustle and bustle, the whizzing past towering buildings, the charming eccentricities of fellow travellersā€¦ it all adds to the magic of New York! My journey to class was as delightful as it was convenient. I snagged a window seat on the M Train, the "Pink Line," which I believe was fitting! And yes, I had my pink tutu tied securely on top of my handbag - just in case a impromptu twirl moment called for it. (You never know! Sometimes the unexpected inspiration strikes on the subway!)

My ballet class at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater was a truly magical experience. The energy in the room was infectious, and I felt so embraced by the spirit of the city. We were learning the graceful "Pas de Deux" from Swan Lake. Every movement felt so exhilarating, and I think I was channeling the spirit of the graceful swans themselves! (Though, I do hope no one saw my slight mishap - a near fall mid-pirouette, all forgiven by a warm smile from the instructor!)

And to top off this truly glorious day, we were treated to a dazzling performance of "Romeo and Juliet" at the Metropolitan Opera House. It was a production of stunning grandeur! The sheer beauty of the stage design, the passionate choreography, the stunning costumes... It transported me into another world, one where love, passion, and tragedy played out against a breathtaking backdrop of Italian Renaissance artistry.

Of course, afterwards, my journey wasn't complete without a little "New York City shopping therapy" on my way back home. After a few delectable bites at "Alice's Tea Cup" (which is now my absolute favourite!) I found myself drawn to the iconic department store, Bloomingdales. A little retail therapy is just what the doctor ordered, wouldn't you agree? My find of the day: A gorgeous pair of pale pink velvet ballet flats that I couldn't resist! They just felt destined for the next ballerina performance. They'd be perfect for my ballet street performance on Thursday at Union Square Park (I'm actually dancing "The Nutcracker Suite," so do come and say hello if you are around! You can always recognise me by my pink tutu!).

As I hopped back onto the Pink Line (what a coincidence!) for my journey home, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with joy. My heart overflowed with gratitude. Gratitude for the beauty of New York City, for the exhilarating rush of ballet, for the magical charm of the pink tutu... and most importantly, for the boundless joy of sharing my journey with all of you!

So, remember darling, keep twirling! Let your pink tutu be a symbol of joy and inspiration. And be sure to keep up with the latest adventures on Pink Tutu Blog NYC, each and every Monday!

Until next week,

Emma

Some Notes about Today

This is the first time I have taken ballet classes in New York! It was so amazing and a lovely surprise - especially with the chance to have a private lesson with the lead dancer! (He said he was impressed by my skill - bless him!)
I bought my velvet ballet slippers from Bloomingdales to use in my ballet street performances.

It was my first visit to the Lincoln Center for a ballet performance, the Metropolitan Opera House for "Romeo and Juliet", and a wonderful little tea shop called ā€œAliceā€™s Tea Cup!ā€

Tomorrow (18th October) I am seeing a modern ballet performance of ā€œCarmenā€ at the New York City Center. It looks amazing - I canā€™t wait to see it! I hope you'll stay tuned for my blog next week about it.

Itā€™s *World Ballet Day tomorrow, * the 18th October, so donā€™t forget to show some love to all of your favourite dancers!

Letā€™s spread some pink tutu love around the world!
