Pink Tutu Blog NYC #1480: Twirling Through the Big Apple!
Monday, 16th October 2023
Hello my darlings! It's Emma, back with you again from the vibrant heart of New York City! The crisp autumn air has descended, and the city feels particularly magical. There’s a buzz in the air, a kind of electric energy that just makes you want to twirl and dance – a feeling that’s hard to resist, even for someone with my love of pink tutus!
This week has been a whirlwind of glitter and glamour, packed with everything a tutu-wearing gal could wish for! From fabulous Broadway shows to bustling shops bursting with colourful delights, New York City has once again proved why it's my absolute favourite place to be. Let me whisk you away to a few highlights...
A Broadway Ballet BingeThe first thing I did when I landed in NYC was grab a bagel and head straight for the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center! I must say, I'm a huge fan of their work and the quality of dancing never ceases to amaze me. The costumes, the choreography – just sublime!
The energy at Lincoln Center was contagious. It felt as if every heart in the theatre was beating to the rhythm of the ballet. The sense of excitement was truly electric! I even spotted a couple wearing pink tutus in the audience. I may have had to resist the urge to leap out and give them a huge hug!
Fashionista's ParadiseYou know I love a good shop, and let me tell you, New York is an absolute mecca for fashion lovers like myself! I'm already feeling that familiar twinge of excitement that comes with having so much choice – almost too much!
First stop – the gorgeous new Ballet Boutique on Fifth Avenue! Oh, the temptation! All the latest ballet wear from renowned brands, plus some beautiful hand-crafted pieces that would have even the most experienced ballerina swooning. Of course, I treated myself to a couple of sparkly new leotards – I just can't resist a bit of glitz!
Later on, I popped into the stunning Bergdorf Goodman for some luxury window shopping. The sheer artistry of those displays is mesmerising! And of course, it’s no surprise to find they have the most exquisite selection of designer tutus. One particularly lavish pink number with intricate embroidery caught my eye. Perhaps a bit too outlandish for everyday wear (even for me!), but what a vision!
Tutu Time in Times SquareLet’s face it, you can't visit New York City without paying a visit to Times Square. This place is just electric! Neon lights, huge screens, and the constant buzz of humanity. The perfect spot for a bit of ‘tutu street style’ don't you think?
The lights seemed to shimmer around my tutu. It truly felt like I had stepped into a fairy-tale, albeit one filled with taxis and billboards. To capture the magic, I took some impromptu pictures – a tutu-wearing ballerina in Times Square, who could resist! The photo has been a real hit on my socials. I even had some people come up to me wanting to take a photo, some even wanted me to join them on a street corner performance! There's something about tutus, it always seems to inspire a bit of joy in others.
An Evening at The Metropolitan Opera HouseFor a truly magical evening, I was lucky enough to get tickets to the Metropolitan Opera House. The iconic venue is truly a masterpiece of architectural elegance. I spent the afternoon pre-show with a friend in Central Park. It’s an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, a lush green oasis right in the heart of New York.
That evening, I slipped into my very finest tutu. I couldn't resist the opportunity to add a touch of sparkle to such a magnificent event! And oh, the sheer beauty of the performance! The voice, the orchestra, the drama… I've never felt so enchanted by a theatrical experience!
After the performance, I wandered around the Opera House feeling completely enthralled by the grandeur and majesty of the place. I couldn’t believe my eyes, the interiors were adorned with a lavish use of pink, and even the staircases had stunning crystal chandeliers. It was certainly fitting for my very pink personality!
A Day for the Little OnesThis being New York City, you can bet I snuck in some time for a little culture with a visit to the Museum of the Moving Image. This is such a fascinating place! Not just films and animations, but also television, gaming, and even digital art. They have an incredible collection of vintage costumes and props, and even a full-size replica of a movie set!
It's the perfect place to inspire a love of storytelling and bring out the creativity in everyone. It reminded me so much of when I was little and just discovering the wonder of dance and the world around me. In fact, the exhibits on ballet performances were simply magical.
This was truly a whirlwind trip, one I’ll remember forever. My time here in New York City has been filled with inspiring stories, dazzling performances, and so much fashion!
And to all of you, my fellow tutu enthusiasts out there: Never forget to spread your wings and twirl! The world is a much more colourful place when we’re all sharing a little bit of our passion!
Until next time my lovelies, keep dancing!
