#PinkTutuBlogNYC - Monday 2023-11-20: Dancing through the Big Apple 🩰🍎

Hey lovelies! 👋 Emma here, back from another whirlwind week in the Big Apple, and ready to share all the fabulous details of my NYC adventure with you. This is post number 1485 on my Pink Tutu Blog, so settle in, grab a cuppa (or a cheeky cocktail 🍹) and let's get right to it!

This week, I've been feeling particularly inspired by the city that never sleeps. There's an energy here that's electrifying, and it makes my own inner ballerina twirl with excitement! I truly believe everyone should experience New York at least once in their life – it's the ultimate place to embrace your inner fashionista, discover hidden gems, and simply soak up the vibrant atmosphere.

The City That Makes You Dance 💃

First things first, I've been completely mesmerized by the incredible ballet performances going on in NYC this week. On Thursday night, I found myself mesmerized by "Swan Lake" at the Metropolitan Opera House. The sheer artistry and athleticism of the dancers were breathtaking, and the costumes… well, let's just say I'm planning to incorporate a touch of that classic romanticism into my own tutu collection! 😉

Later that week, I headed downtown for a more experimental and contemporary ballet experience at The Joyce Theater. It was truly captivating! A smaller venue than the Met, the intimacy allowed me to really appreciate the dancers' emotions and their incredible range of movement. It reminded me how dance can be so incredibly expressive, moving and, frankly, downright fascinating!

But, darling, it's not all high-brow theatre. I love the fun, dynamic spirit of the street performance scene in New York. Yesterday, I wandered through Central Park and stumbled upon an impromptu ballet performance. This group of dancers was all ages and all shapes and sizes, and they were performing everything from traditional classical ballet to hip hop and contemporary styles. The sheer joy of their dance was infectious, and it just proves that you don't need a stage or a fancy venue to express yourself through dance!

The Colourful Kaleidoscope of Fashion

Of course, no trip to New York City is complete without indulging in some serious fashion therapy. This time, I decided to venture beyond the familiar avenues of Fifth Avenue and explore the trendy shops of SoHo. From independent boutiques filled with quirky, handcrafted pieces, to high-street gems offering statement shoes and accessories, SoHo had everything a girl could dream of.

Let me tell you, darling, I did a little bit of a tutu twirl and indulged in some glorious pieces, but I’ll keep the details of those shopping finds for a later blog post, shall we?

And it wouldn’t be a #PinkTutuBlogNYC without my personal touch, would it? My signature pink tutu was, naturally, part of my NYC look. It paired perfectly with a crisp, white button-up shirt and some vibrant pink-tinted shades. Just the right blend of classic chic and playful attitude for exploring the streets of this fabulous city.

Of course, a tutu doesn't just have to be for fancy occasions! On Sunday, I decided to bring my tutu for a picnic in Central Park, you know, just a bit of playful energy amidst the natural beauty of the park. The combination of vibrant hues of the park, the fluffy pink of the tutu, and the sunshine brought smiles to everyone's faces. And let's be honest, there’s nothing more fun than getting people talking about how wonderful tutus can be!

Subway Adventures and New York's Rhythms

And darling, you know me! The underground is my second home when I’m travelling! In New York City, that means the MTA (Metropolitan Transit Authority) subway. The rhythmic, metallic soundtrack of the subway echoes throughout the city, and as my train journey carried me across Manhattan, I felt an undeniable energy in the air, and an excitement buzzing around me.

Being in this city is like experiencing life in fast-forward, in a way. You are a part of this unstoppable stream of human energy, whether you like it or not. As you rush to your destinations, whether by train, foot, taxi or the iconic New York yellow cabs, you learn to adapt to this city’s frenetic tempo.

It makes me think, we all need that little bit of ballet in our lives – a touch of grace, poise, and a touch of dramatic flair! It helps you navigate life’s hustle and bustle. So, go ahead, throw on your own personal “pink tutu” – whatever that looks like to you – and step out into your own unique style. Dance to your own rhythm. It doesn’t have to be ballet, you know! It could be tap, salsa, jazz, belly dancing, hip-hop, even tap dancing, the possibilities are endless.

Food for the Soul and My Pink Tutu Diet

This wouldn't be a real blog post if I didn't share some of my culinary experiences in the city. Let me tell you, NYC is a haven for food lovers!

Now, my darling, let’s be honest. The city’s food is an amazing, almost overwhelming experience, I don’t deny a delicious slice of pizza or the perfect pastrami sandwich, however, I have to be honest, my tutu diet, my "pink-tutu" way of living, needs to maintain a balance of indulgences and nutritious choices. After all, if I’m not dancing through the streets of this glorious city in a pink tutu, then what is the point, am I right?!

That said, one of my must-do foodie experiences was brunch at The Spotted Pig in Greenwich Village. I indulged in a perfect English muffin with avocado, poached eggs, and smoked salmon – oh so delicious! It’s not about restriction. It's about finding a healthy balance and feeling my absolute best!

Of course, my tutu has a heart of gold, a true spirit of charity. You've seen the #PinkTutuGives back on my previous blog posts. Each week, I always try to support a charity. This week, it's the “Citymeals on Wheels” which brings nourishing meals to homebound New Yorkers, a vital service for people in need.

This time, I chose to donate to their "Taste of the City" program, which benefits homebound New Yorkers. So many people don't have access to nutritious food, and I feel strongly about giving back to the community. Even small acts of kindness can make a world of difference, especially when we all live together in this city that never sleeps!

A New York State of Mind

My dearest readers, this week has been a truly remarkable journey. From the graceful performances at the ballet to the vibrant energy of street performers and the incredible food experiences, NYC has reminded me of the beauty, joy, and inspiring spirit that this amazing city exudes.

So here’s a final piece of advice. Whether it's dancing, exploring, finding the perfect tutu or finding ways to be a force for good, don’t wait for the perfect moment to bring out the pink tutu in your own life. Go ahead and make every day a fabulous adventure, because you only live once, right? And it's in those unexpected moments where magic happens!

I’ll catch you all next Monday for another instalment of #PinkTutuBlogNYC! Until then, spread some pink tutu magic. 💕
