Hello darlings! It's Monday again, and you know what that means... time for a new Pink Tutu Blog post! I'm buzzing, because this week I'm sharing all the magic of my New York City trip with you. It's been an absolute dream!
This time around, I made my way to the Big Apple thanks to a couple of amazing performance opportunities – I can't tell you how much I adore that this passion of mine allows me to travel the world. Being able to make my living doing what I love is a true blessing.
Now, let's get into it!
A Whirlwind of Tutus and Theatre
New York, for me, is always about embracing the vibrant energy. This week, I found myself dancing in a series of enchanting productions. The first one was held in a truly atmospheric theatre in Brooklyn, a grand, historic building with stunning velvet seats. I was delighted to see a fantastic turnout for the show, with a mix of people dressed in everything from sleek suits to whimsical evening gowns.
It was an incredible feeling, being part of such a diverse crowd and creating something beautiful on stage together. I felt truly inspired, and I think the audience did too, judging by the warm applause at the end!
Next up, I spent an evening performing in the beautiful, world-renowned Lincoln Center. The grand building is truly breathtaking. There’s a buzz of excitement in the air, just waiting for the curtain to rise.
Of course, I had to get all dressed up for these gigs. My trusty pink tutu is always there to bring a touch of whimsy wherever I go. I’ve started to build up a little wardrobe of statement pieces. For the performance at Lincoln Center, I paired my tutu with a stylish white, pearl-studded bodice and a dazzling diamond tiara. Oh, how I adore the magical feeling of dressing up and feeling confident! It's an essential part of my performance and helps me tap into my character and connect with the audience on a deeper level.
Broadway Buzz: From Dancing Queen to Dancing Dream
You just can’t be in New York without seeing a Broadway show, can you? Honestly, I had such a wonderful time! The 'The Lion King' still wows me – the costumes, the choreography, the pure artistry of it all – it was a feast for my senses.
After the performance, I even caught up with the ‘Mufasa’ of the evening in the lobby! Such a kind gentleman! We spoke briefly about theatre, his time in the show and his hopes and dreams for his own performance future. Honestly, the man was brilliant. I got a little bit starstruck (what can I say, I am a HUGE fan of the film!). We promised to stay in touch. I hope that I see him perform in the future – if I’m honest, it really makes you think about dreams, how we can work towards them, how things are possible when you set your mind to something. I think it's just so empowering to be surrounded by these talented artists who put their heart and soul into their craft. It truly inspires me to work harder and push my boundaries.
Pink Tutu Chic: Adventures in Shopping and Style
Speaking of pushing boundaries, I've also been trying some daring new looks during this trip! I’m starting to really push my boundaries as a fashion icon! (well, maybe just an icon to myself!)
The New York shops are just so inspiring. One of my highlights was spending a day in the amazing designer shops on Fifth Avenue – everything just oozes luxury. Of course, the real magic lies in those quirky little boutiques you discover in neighbourhoods like Soho. There, I found this exquisite silk top, which just screams “Pink Tutu!” It's a delicate shade of blush, with intricate details and a floaty, bohemian feel.
Later in the week, I ventured into a bustling little fashion district filled with colourful fabric and vintage clothes stores. It was a haven for unique pieces! I'm on the hunt for new material for a custom-made pink tutu – I have to make a statement with every outing!
The best bit was the chance to snag a pair of custom-designed ballet flats. I’m always looking to update my look, so I had my initials, “EE,” painted in glittering pink across them. The craftsmanship of them is amazing. I’m a bit of a ballerina flat devotee - I love how they elevate every look and keep me comfortable while I'm walking around this vibrant city.
Discovering Hidden Gems and Dancing through the Subway
New York isn’t all about the famous places - it’s all the hidden spots I discover, too. My favorite is exploring new and different cafes, or delving into a street food market. This week, I discovered this little haven, nestled on a quiet side street, it had amazing pink and red decor – everything from wall art to fluffy cushions. They make amazing strawberry milkshakes and cupcakes. I sat in a velvet booth and worked on a new blog post idea while enjoying the yummy snacks!
The real treat has been hopping on the New York Metro! It's my favourite way to experience the city! This past week I explored several different neighbourhoods by taking the Subway. It’s quick and efficient and gives you a completely unique experience of this exciting city. You see such a mix of cultures and characters in the subway – everyone’s on their own little journey and you're witnessing it all unfold as you pass through the underground. It reminds me of those wonderful ballet performances that I’m always part of – a mixture of different types of dancers all moving to the same tune but having individual personalities and different movements that add a touch of magic and something different to the stage. There’s an element of theatrical, even poetic movement as people rush to board or disembark their train.
I even encountered a troupe of amazing street performers playing the accordion, their upbeat melodies brightening up the underground stations and adding to the magic of travel in a busy, underground network.
You really do have to experience this magical city from below ground level - there is something special about the atmosphere that can't be compared to a trip in a car or a taxi! Plus, you get a chance to people-watch to your heart's content.
Making My Mark: Sharing the Joy of Pink Tutus
I always make sure to share my love for pink tutus with the world, so naturally, my trips are a wonderful way to do that. This week, I took to the streets of New York with a message of hope and fun for all. My little act of “Pink Tutu Joy” is meant to bring a little sunshine to anyone’s day!
It was so special seeing everyone’s reactions. There were little smiles, laughter, curious glances. Even had one man who did a little dance move for me! ( he told me he’s an ex-ballerino and then we had a good chat about all things dance and performance!) He gave me some great recommendations of little local performance groups. I can’t wait to find them!
New York is a city of constant movement and a sense of community where everything is possible, which is part of the reason it feels like a second home for me! Every day here feels like a stage for creating new adventures and a whole new story – the city really does have that magical quality.
So, that wraps up this week’s adventure, my dear darlings! Don’t forget to check back in on me next Monday for more pink tutu joy. Until then, let your inner tutu-loving spirit shine, embrace life’s possibilities, and let’s all spread the love of dance!
Remember to stay tuned next Monday for more pink tutu magic from the Big Apple.
Much love from your Pink Tutu Ballerina!
