Hello darlings! It's Monday morning, which can only mean one thing – it's time for another Pink Tutu Blog NYC! And guess what? Your favourite tutu-wearing ballerina is back in the Big Apple! That's right, I'm here in the heart of the city, breathing in that vibrant energy and soaking up all that New York magic.
You see, my adventures, darling, aren't just about pretty pink tutus and dainty ballet shoes. They are about a girl, just like you, chasing her dreams – dreams that take me all around the world, showcasing the incredible power of dancing. It's a whirlwind of performances, city explorations, and of course, finding those fabulous pink tutus!
This time around, my latest journey found me in Derbyshire, where I danced for the incredible National Ballet Theatre. Oh my goodness, it was divine! The whole experience, from the grand theatre to the stunning costumes, was truly unforgettable. It's a funny thing about dancing. You spend so many hours perfecting every little twirl, every graceful plié. You pour your heart and soul into each movement, and the payoff? That magic you share with the audience. I always feel that my most recent performance was the best, and each one pushes me to be even better. But there’s more than the art of the dance itself. My favourite thing about performing is the applause. The energy of a standing ovation is something else entirely! It’s like I've transported the audience with my dance. It makes all the hours of rehearsal worthwhile. And the very best part? I have the most fabulous pink tutu for my big solo performance! It’s almost worth missing out on the city for a while, though I will be making up for that with my current trip to New York.
You see, I get to combine my passion for ballet with another great love of mine – travelling! The magic of experiencing different cultures, the buzz of bustling cities, the hidden gems found down cobbled alleyways – I love it all! This trip to New York feels extra special. I'm a true believer that you can dance anywhere. But this city, with its energy, creativity, and unwavering spirit, is truly an inspiration. I can already tell that this trip is going to be filled with beautiful memories and magical moments, and you, my darlings, are going to be right there with me every step of the way!
Pink, Pretty & The SubwayBut back to New York City! It’s never too early for a morning Metro ride. I just can't resist! There’s something quite magnificent about travelling on the subway in New York, even though I confess it can be a bit intimidating. I remember being terrified the first time I took the subway, and, truthfully, I do tend to be quite a fearful soul at times, so I’m getting bolder, my dears! The crowds of people going about their daily business – it truly makes you feel like you’re right at the heart of something important, a big bustling city! This is how the true New Yorkers get around, after all, and they're so quick at it – getting on and off like lightning. But, of course, that just gives me even more time for tutu gazing – a favourite pastime when I’m here in New York. The people here are such an amazing inspiration. A kaleidoscope of fashionistas with incredible looks – I am surrounded by so much creativity!
From the chic and glamorous to the truly bizarre and wonderful – there’s a feeling here that you can just be yourself. I’ve already been thinking of all the pink tutu variations I can try out for my photoshoots – and the subway is one of my very favourite places for this!
Yesterday, I was in awe watching an elegant lady with her bright pink fluffy poodle ( yes, that's right, a pink poodle!). I tried to talk to her, but she gave me a rather stern look and, after I mentioned pink tutus, she marched on ahead.
I had a little dance around a street corner with a group of skateboarders ( they were intrigued!). I do think that one was worth sharing, but then again I do think that I will save that video for another day!
It always makes me laugh to think how everyone looks at me – and to be fair, when they spot my gorgeous tutu swirling around in front of them – there's never really a chance to NOT notice me!
My secret – even in a city like New York, where pink can feel quite overwhelming, is the colour itself. The city has such a vibrant and vibrant feel that pink fits right in with it all. Even here, pink can be elegant, delicate, or a whole load of fun - you know, just like me!
Broadway BoundAnd speaking of fun, I absolutely had to see a Broadway show. New York is practically made for it! This week, it had to be the timeless classic “Les Misérables.” I know, I know, so much is made of the incredible performance of the main male character – Jean Valjean. It was a fabulous performance! I had my eyes firmly on the incredible dancing though – from the powerful and passionate ensembles to the delicate, emotional duets, the whole thing was pure magic. You see, ballet doesn't need a whole show! You see it every time there’s an incredible stage performance. The beauty, grace, and sheer talent! My darlings, I truly feel a sense of belonging, a kind of “you’re home” feeling. That is a truly special gift, especially when you're exploring the amazing city that New York is. I do like a ballet show that pulls in emotions and power as much as beauty.
Shopping In StyleOh, and shopping! It wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu Blog NYC post without a bit of shopping therapy. New York, especially, just demands a little spree. I had my eye on that cute little vintage shop in the West Village – and I have to tell you it was an absolute delight. A little treasure trove of feminine wonders, hidden away, tucked behind the busy streets of the city! And you know, as much as I love New York, there's something about those vintage shops that feels just that bit more charming! They have a charm of their own. And guess what? I snagged myself an adorable pink ruffled shirt with pearl buttons that will make my tutus look even more spectacular. ( Don't you worry! I'll have the photos on my blog soon!).
A Day at The BalletWhat’s a ballet-loving girl like myself to do while in the big city? Why, hit up one of New York’s most iconic locations, of course: The School of American Ballet. I simply had to try a class – there's nothing quite like it, the intensity, the beauty, the passion. The instructor (a lovely lady called Miss Clara!) was amazing – and really helped me refine my footwork. Don't get me wrong, I'm no professional, and you have to give credit to all of the world's incredible professional dancers - the skill and talent they have is amazing. The classes are always packed with young aspiring dancers – their energy and drive, you can truly feel the future of ballet. It’s very inspirational to be surrounded by so much talent and hard work. And then, it’s back on the metro again, to find more fun, inspiring things, ready to post in my weekly blog. New York is so exciting! It’s exhausting too! But it is what it is, and I’ve definitely had an action-packed first couple of days.
City LightsAfter a long day, what better than to head back to my hotel, change into my favourite new fluffy pink dressing gown (from that vintage shop!), and sip on some jasmine tea while I relax and catch up on Instagram. After that, I’m straight back out to get a real feel for New York at night – all the buzzing activity around the streets, street artists showcasing their talents – you can get quite a lot of inspiration from seeing a city at night – it is a really beautiful thing!
## To Tutus & Beyond
You know, New York has such a spirit, a vibrancy that’s so inspiring – I find myself wanting to run into the streets, twirling my tutu like the most wonderful whirlwind. It makes me realise how much I've been inspired by my travels to make everyone in the world embrace the fun, energy, and playful nature of a tutu. Because really, shouldn't every one of us twirl into life, filled with joy and a dash of sparkle, just like a ballet dancer in their most fabulous tutu? I believe we should all bring our own special magic to life, whatever that may be!
I hope my blog has helped inspire you all. Maybe I've inspired a few more of you to go out and dance in that gorgeous pink tutu of yours, maybe in Times Square? Who knows what’s next – but for me, I’m just going to continue to dance my way around the world, finding inspiration wherever I go, with my trusty pink tutu always by my side! I’ll be back next Monday with another Pink Tutu Blog, so keep an eye out for more stories and magical moments from the world of pink!
Keep it twirling, darlings!
Love, Emma
