Hello my darling tutus! It’s Monday again, which means another fabulous installment of the #PinkTutuBlogNYC is here! As usual, I’m ready to whisk you away with tales of pink, tutus, and the extraordinary city that never sleeps – New York City! 🗽
This week, my darlings, I’m feeling exceptionally inspired. You see, I've been swooning over my trip to New York this weekend - my fifth trip this year and it just keeps getting better. I'm completely addicted to this bustling, magnificent city.
It's truly like nothing else - you have Broadway, Central Park, the museums, the fashion - I’m just totally enchanted! This time, I was so fortunate to be invited to an exclusive show by a friend of mine who is a prima ballerina, dancing in "Giselle" at the prestigious New York City Ballet. 💖
I could just never resist a ballet performance - there’s just such grace, emotion, and incredible skill to be found. And you know, I find the world of ballet is much like my love for pink tutus – full of sparkle, a dash of whimsicality, and an enchanting kind of magic.✨
Of course, as soon as I arrived in the city that never sleeps, I had to do a bit of fashion reconnaissance! There’s something so exciting about stepping into a flagship store like Saks Fifth Avenue, with their towering glass doors that just scream luxury and glam! I'm sure you’ll be delighted to know that I was lucky enough to pick up a brand new pink tutu (oh yes, they did have one just for me!).
I decided to start my tour of New York by grabbing a slice of famous New York pizza – oh my goodness, it's simply heaven! I enjoyed a perfect Margherita slice, savouring every cheesy bite and taking in the New York skyline – which was stunning in the golden sunlight. Pizza is something I definitely don’t get back in Derbyshire, but New York pizza just has to be tried! 🍕
The journey continued in style, of course – no city trip is complete without hopping on the iconic New York subway. The energy is so magnetic - you just can’t help but feel that sense of excitement, the thrill of being surrounded by so much energy and history! Plus, the underground is full of characters. Just remember my number one rule: wear a bright and dazzling outfit so you’ll stand out! My secret trick to getting noticed and attracting a smile? My trusty pink tutu of course! 💖
My friend, the prima ballerina, met me outside the subway station, a whirl of elegance in a perfectly structured ballet bun, a classic ballet dress, and just enough pink glitter on her eyeliner – a stylish ode to my own flair. We strolled through the vibrant streets towards the ballet venue – Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, where I’ve been several times now, for opera, ballet, and Broadway. Every time, I’m struck by the incredible scale and the pure elegance of the whole place!
After enjoying a gourmet coffee (with oat milk – yes I’m still embracing plant based, darling, my tummy feels much happier), we made our way into the grand theater for a little rehearsal, just before the big "Giselle" show! My friend was getting ready, while I watched the theatre crew prepping the stage for the evening's magic.
Of course, I did a bit of Instagram live-streaming (which you can check out here!) while I had a cheeky glance behind the curtain of the theatre world. Seeing such skill, preparation, and sheer talent, made my heart sing – especially as my own debut in the New York ballet theatre is scheduled for June (spoiler alert!) 🩰
Just before the curtain rose, my friend gifted me her backstage pass, so I could get closer than close to the dance floor – so I’ve had a truly spectacular view of “Giselle” as I saw it for the second time! You simply must experience this iconic ballet, and it’s absolutely essential you watch the full length on YouTube afterwards!
The beautiful story, the music, and the phenomenal costumes - and especially the dancing, it all created this enchanting bubble of magic. I felt absolutely transported by "Giselle" – I felt like a princess at the grandest, most exciting ball – surrounded by ballerinas and an atmosphere of elegance and awe-inspiring beauty. And even if you aren’t a big ballet fan (and, honestly, why not?!), you will be swept up in this wonderful ballet classic! The choreography was pure poetry in motion, so dramatic and captivating. And the music, it just seemed to soar in the air, evoking a feeling of deep, poignant emotions.
But honestly, darling, the highlight of the "Giselle" experience was that beautiful swirling white dress and that absolutely dreamy tutu which made Giselle look like a fairy floating above the dance floor. The costumes were just exquisite – each a beautiful masterpiece. The whole ballet brought back the feelings I felt the very first time I wore a pink tutu when I was just 5 years old.
It’s times like this, experiencing these magical, uplifting events, where I feel truly at home and grateful for being part of such a diverse and vibrant world of creativity. It’s my aim to encourage the creativity in all of us and to wear the colour pink (and of course, pink tutus) every single day, without a doubt, in support of confidence, joy, and inner light! 💕
The whole experience inspired my next shopping trip, my dear friends. It simply had to happen! A day in Fifth Avenue to visit my favourite stores (which all have the pinkest windows – because I like pink) and of course a pitstop at Lord & Taylor – for the most divine tulle and fabrics I have ever seen! I am on a mission, darling, to craft the most stunning and enchanting tutus and pinkest outfits – so keep a watch out for my latest blog post coming next week! 🛍
After all that shopping and enjoying all the sights – of course, there was nothing else I wanted than to unwind at my favourite rooftop bar (where you can see all of New York at its most fabulous) while sipping a strawberry and vanilla Bellini. 🍸 You know I have the best taste in drinks - always sweet, pink, and perfectly refreshing. The beautiful colours just make a gorgeous backdrop to the panoramic city views and, honestly, darling, it was like I was in a dream!
So, my lovely tutus, that’s my #PinkTutuBlogNYC for this week – filled with so much excitement, inspiration and pink, pink, pink! Let me know how you are feeling, and what you have been up to, in the comments below.
Remember – don’t forget to wear a pink tutu at least once this week! You’ll find yourself filled with joy, darling. It's a reminder to always follow your dreams, dance to your own rhythm, and keep spreading that pink-tutu-tastic joy. 💖🩰
Lots of pink love,
Emma
