New York, New York! The City That Never Sleeps... and Where I’m Definitely in My Element!

Hello my darling tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple for my 1578th blog post, just for you! Can you believe it’s already September? It seems like just yesterday I was swanning around Paris in my sparkly pink tutu, sipping champagne and admiring the Eiffel Tower. Speaking of, remember to check out last week's post about my Parisian adventure at www.pink-tutu.com - I think you’ll agree it’s simply fabulous.

Today I'm bursting with excitement to tell you about my latest New York escapade. Let me tell you, it was all a bit much! So much to see, so much to do, and of course, so much to wear my tutu for! I know I’ve said this a million times before, but this city is a wonderland for tutu wearers – so much character, so much energy! Honestly, I just wish I had more time here!

Ballet Bootcamp:

You all know my favourite way to start a week? Why, a ballet class of course! And I had the most glorious time this morning at the American Ballet Theatre studio on West 65th Street. The energy in that studio was electric! It’s one of the most famous studios in the whole world, so there’s definitely pressure to keep up, but it's just so much fun. And I have to say, the American dancers are phenomenal - truly incredible technique and passion! They’ve even convinced me to go for my pointe shoe exam! đŸ€« (don't worry, I'm already well underway with those!)

My Big Tutu Transformation:

I felt I needed a change of outfit for all that ballet action. Sometimes even my go-to tutus need a bit of a break! So, before class I headed over to Fifth Avenue and got myself a brand new fluffy pink tutu, this one with beautiful hand-sewn lace detailing around the hem. It was positively angelic. The saleswoman couldn’t believe I planned to wear it to class, but I just shrugged and said, "When I twirl, I twirl! I wouldn't dream of doing otherwise!" You just have to make a statement sometimes, wouldn't you say?

New York, New York! It's a Big, Tutu-Loving World:

After class, I did a little shopping, of course, in a swanky vintage clothing store near my favourite Central Park spot. A lovely lady behind the counter thought I looked smashing and even let me borrow a giant sparkly brooch to wear. (It reminded me of something my Gran used to wear, which was fun!) And that’s when I knew it - today was the day to go all out on the tutu, to really enjoy my time in New York and to just, you know
 be myself.

So, there I was - marching around New York City, a ballerina on a mission. My fluffy pink tutu swishing about in the gentle breeze, my sparkly brooch reflecting the sunshine like a thousand little diamonds. You could say it was definitely a look - especially for me - but it wasn't about making a fuss, it was about enjoying the energy of the city! Honestly, the whole place felt so inviting, like it wanted to join my Tutu Tour! Even the pigeons seemed mesmerized, and you know they’re hard to impress.

My Favourite Things:

My tutu trip around New York took me to all the iconic landmarks! I danced down 5th Avenue, got my photo taken by the iconic Flatiron Building (all those angles!), had some delightful cupcakes and a glass of rosé in a cosy café in the East Village, and watched the sun set over the Hudson from the pier. The water was so reflective - my pink tutu practically shimmered like the skyline itself.

And of course, what’s a New York adventure without a little Broadway show? 🎭

Tonight’s theatre treat is "Les Miserables", one of my all-time favourite musicals. And guess what? I managed to get tickets for a front-row seat, meaning I was literally on stage with them. Imagine my joy! The entire theatre went completely wild after the final number, a real crescendo of applause, standing ovations and curtain calls! Honestly, I haven't felt that energy since a sold-out performance at The Royal Opera House in London.

Finding Magic in the Metro:

Let's just talk about the metro, shall we? Honestly, it’s one of my absolute favourite things about New York. Yes, the trains can get packed at rush hour (the “tube” at home has nothing on this) but the city’s underground is such a beautiful blend of hustle and bustle with art, culture and history just peeking around every corner. Plus, I managed to convince the train driver to let me use the speaker to announce "This train is stopping next for those wishing to wear a pink tutu! đŸ©°".

I think it took a moment for everyone to process, and when I did it a few times with that fabulous "All aboard" call, a few passengers started looking around. I think maybe someone’s new life journey has been started today - after all, who doesn’t feel good in a pink tutu? And I’m ready to support them! You can thank me later.

Travel Tips:

I know it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, so don't forget to find a few moments to just enjoy yourself!

  • A ballerina never goes hungry. Treat yourself to some authentic New York street food! From bagels with lox to hot dogs on a corner, the smells and flavors will make you want to dance.

  • Stay curious and take the scenic route. If you’re looking for a more relaxed moment, I highly recommend strolling through Central Park. Even though it can feel very touristy, you'll discover hidden corners and tranquil lakes perfect for a good tutu-wearing twirl!

  • Remember to hydrate! New York City is very humid, especially during summer. Remember to keep that water bottle handy to stay cool and radiant throughout the day.

Tutu Time:

Of course, no New York adventure is complete without the perfect outfit! My tip? Always wear pink! A tutu can make the most mundane subway ride an opportunity to spread some ballerina magic. It can turn a casual cafe trip into an elegant high tea experience. Honestly, a good pink tutu will make you feel fabulous no matter what! So wear your pink tutus with pride and always remember to embrace that inner ballerina. And who knows, you might even catch some attention on the way!

Until Next Week!
