Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post 1597: New York City Ballet Bliss & Tutu-tastic Shopping!

Hello my dearest tutu-lovers! It’s Monday, so it's time for another Pink Tutu Blog post from fabulous New York City! How was your week? Did you twirl in your pink tutu at least once?

You know, some people think I’m bonkers. They see this obsession with tutus and pink and wonder if I’ve lost my marbles. They stare as I pirouette down the street or flit onto the subway in my dazzling pink tulle. But let me tell you, they haven’t lived until they’ve felt the liberation of a twirl in a tutu! It’s a secret feeling that every girl understands – the feeling of pure, unadulterated joy, of lightness and magic. And as for the pink? Well, that’s just the cherry on top – it's the colour of dreams, of fun, of love.

This week has been absolutely brilliant. The New York air has been crisp and sparkly, and I’ve been dancing my little heart out.

The Magical World of New York City Ballet

I just had to start my week with a dose of pure, unadulterated ballet bliss. On Saturday, I caught a show at the New York City Ballet – an absolute must-see for any tutu aficionado! This performance was The Sleeping Beauty, and it was truly magnificent.

Imagine stepping into the grand theatre. The velvet seats, the soft lighting, the smell of freshly polished floors. And then the music… oh, the music! It fills you up with so much emotion. You could practically taste it! The dancing was captivating. Every move, every pose, a symphony of graceful expression. I could almost hear the whispers of the past, as I was transported to another world.

There’s just something truly special about the way dancers can express emotions through movement. Their bodies tell stories, weave narratives, and create worlds – all through the beautiful language of ballet. There’s a raw power in their grace and a poetry in their every step. It’s no wonder the art form has captured hearts for centuries!

This particular production was enchanting! The set was dreamy, like a fairytale come to life. It was a masterpiece in colour, texture and light – all contributing to the magical atmosphere of the story.

It made me want to twirl! But you know what, it made everyone want to twirl! There was a girl sat behind me, in a sparkly red top and black jeans, who kept tapping her feet and swaying to the music. The people on the front row leaned back, watching every move, enthralled. This magic touches everyone!

If you haven’t had the chance to experience a show at the New York City Ballet, I strongly urge you to make it happen! The performances are incredible, the venue is grand, and it's an absolute treat for all your senses.

My New York Ballet Wardrobe

Okay, let's talk tutu time! You know, a trip to the ballet isn’t complete without a little tutu-dressing magic. And for a truly fabulous experience, it has to be a pink tutu! It just makes everything more special!

This time I wore a beautiful pink and silver sequined tutu that twirled effortlessly. The pink wasn't that baby pink that screams child-like, oh no, it was a bright, dazzling fuchsia that said 'I am confident and glamorous'. This time, my choice of top was a black and silver sleeveless top – I love the way these two colours compliment the pink tutu. The top was really important because the theatre is chilly! It also allows for lots of neck space – I love a bit of sparkly jewellery at a show. I had some delicate pink pearls and my small heart locket which I got from Derbyshire, just to add a bit of that Derbyshire charm!

Of course, no tutu outfit is complete without a pair of ballet flats. This time, I opted for a pair with sparkly pink toes. To match the little touches of shimmer in my pink tutu.

There was something very chic and minimalist about the look – a black and silver top with a pink tutu and flats. It all seemed to come together perfectly, the sparkle just made it more glam. But what made it my outfit was the way I made it my personal style. That is one of the greatest things about being a fashion lover - there are so many ways you can create a personal style!

Shopping in NYC!

If there’s one thing that excites me about New York, it’s the shopping! The city just pulses with energy when it comes to fashion, with stores crammed full of beautiful clothes and accessories – and let’s not forget the iconic shoes!

There are vintage shops, high street brands and some really independent shops. You're guaranteed to find that unique item of clothing or jewellery that speaks to you. You could wander for hours and hours.

You know me, I was in heaven.

I headed to Soho for my shopping adventures this time, it's definitely my favourite district for finding fabulous outfits. The shop windows here just glitter with possibilities, the variety is stunning! I spent a delightful hour in one shop that had gorgeous sequined dresses! But the real highlight had to be a vintage clothing shop. There were shelves and rails upon rails full of clothes from different eras! I’d never seen so much vintage! I couldn't resist, and walked away with a stunning cream cardigan with floral detail - I have a feeling it is going to be the perfect accessory for my future ballet outfits. It just adds something extra special - a little bit of timeless vintage glamour to a modern outfit!

Enjoying My Week

Of course, shopping wasn't the only thing I did this week.

I spent a sunny Saturday afternoon enjoying a picnic in Central Park. There were people walking around, families, young couples. Dogs on leads and children running, giggling and throwing balls. There were even people having impromptu dancing lessons - it was great seeing that! The music was so happy and upbeat – some of it had that classical vibe you hear at the ballet! They all looked so free and carefree, twirling around. It made me smile and think, 'You know what, you're never too old to have fun'!

The sun was warm on my skin, there was the smell of burgers in the air - you know that smell when the barbeque gets a little bit too close! There were even a couple of street musicians – and boy, were they good! There were children trying to balance on one leg, mimicking the moves of a professional dancer! They may not have had a pink tutu on, but their little heart was bursting with joy! And to me, that's exactly what life should be - full of heart, full of joy and full of pink tutus!

I picked up a takeaway pizza on the way home and spent the evening watching my favourite dance show on TV. It really did feel like the perfect Saturday.

This is the beautiful thing about being here, in the heart of New York. There’s something for everyone, no matter what you’re passionate about. I just love this vibrant city, and every single Monday I find another new favourite corner!
