Hello darlings! It's Monday, and you know what that means... it's time for another Pink Tutu Blog NYC update!
I'm back in my favourite city - the Big Apple itself! New York always gets me so excited - the energy, the hustle and bustle, and of course, the amazing ballet scene! This week I'm exploring all things pink, fabulous, and of course, tutu-tastic!
Last week was a whirlwind, full of performance commitments back in Derbyshire, which, for all its charm, can never truly compare to the electric vibe of NYC. It's like nothing else. Imagine, darling, stepping onto the subway - yes, I still prefer to take the metro - and feeling that buzz! That feeling that anything is possible! Just like that feeling you get after nailing that perfect pirouette, you know?
February in NYC is magic. The air is crisp, the city sparkles under a million twinkling lights, and you can almost hear the magic in the air! But for this Pink Tutu girl, there’s something else that’s truly magical about this month. It’s the beginning of Fashion Week! The world of couture, dazzling designs, and breathtaking creations... cue dreamy sigh I can practically smell the luxurious fabrics!
This week, darling, it's all about finding that perfect pink tutu outfit for those incredible fashion shows I'm attending. Every outfit, whether I'm hitting the catwalk for a ballet performance or mingling with the fashionistas at a fabulous show, needs to be just right - extraordinary, but also with a touch of Emma's magic ... which is always a pink tutu, of course!
First stop... Bloomingdale's! The windows were adorned with incredible floral arrangements in every shade of pink you can imagine - perfect inspiration! I’m on the hunt for a feather boa, darling, something extravagant and glamorous. But of course, there needs to be a tutu! My eye's already fallen on the perfect one, made with layers of tulle in shades of flamingo pink and bubblegum, all trimmed with silver sequins. The fabric is so delicate, and it flows like a dream... oh, the things a girl can do in a tutu like that! Just imagining those twirls and jetés under the glittering chandeliers of New York's most luxurious department stores!
But the magic doesn't stop at the stores! Tonight I'm catching the most spectacular show at New York City Ballet, their rendition of Swan Lake. Can you imagine the graceful choreography, the sweeping costumes, and the beautiful music? This city is a paradise for ballerinas like me. It's like living in a fairytale.
Of course, after the ballet, I'll be heading to a cute little bistro just off Times Square. No, not one of those massive tourist-trap joints - think charming, romantic, and perfect for catching up on the week’s events with my fellow ballerina friends over a glass of bubbly. We're celebrating our performances and our love of all things pink and sparkly. I have to say, sharing these experiences with other dancers is one of the things I truly love about New York.
And I know you might think I'm completely bonkers - some of you definitely do! I get it - it's the whole 'pink tutu' thing. I still remember the day my mum, bless her, walked into the ballet school with one in hand, a big, pink fluffy tutu that almost engulfed her entire body. She had seen it on display at a charity shop and just knew it was for me. I'd been practicing my pirouettes with a little bit of confidence but that moment… it sparked something! It gave me my confidence. My flair. I started going to more ballet shows. And then there it was. A whole new me.
Now it’s my goal to make every girl, every woman, feel as empowered and magical as I feel in my pink tutu. Because wearing a pink tutu doesn't have to be just for the stage. It's a state of mind! A feeling that anything is possible! And trust me, there's no place on earth that embraces this feeling more than New York City!
