Hey, darlings! It's Emma here, and this week, I'm bursting at the seams with excitement to share all about my amazing trip to New York City! You all know how much I adore this incredible city - the energy, the glamour, the endless opportunities to twirl and sparkle… it's truly a dream come true for a tutu-loving girl like me.
Now, I might be a tiny bit biased, but I truly believe New York City is one of the best places in the world to indulge in a little ballet bliss. And let me tell you, this week's been packed with more pirouettes and pas de deux than I can shake a pink tutu at!
Valentine's Day in the City of Dreams
I arrived in the Big Apple on Wednesday, just in time for the magic of Valentine's Day! It felt like the entire city was buzzing with love, with heart-shaped balloons, roses at every corner, and the sweet scent of freshly baked chocolate in the air. What better way to celebrate than with a ballet show?
I snagged tickets to the Metropolitan Opera's production of “La Bayadère” and let me tell you, I was absolutely spellbound! The choreography was breathtaking, the dancers were incredibly talented, and the costumes... oh, the costumes! A vibrant sea of pink and gold swirled across the stage. Honestly, it was pure balletic bliss. It almost felt as if I was transported to the heart of the grand palaces of India where the story took place! Afterward, I found the perfect spot for a celebratory dinner at The Russian Tea Room. You haven't experienced New York until you've dined in their opulent, candlelit, ballroom-style setting!
Tutu-rific Finds at Bloomingdale's
My New York adventures wouldn't be complete without a good old-fashioned shopping spree, and where better to indulge than at Bloomingdale's! They've got an incredible collection of designer clothes and shoes, and let me tell you, their tutu section is the best in the city! (Well, that might be a slight exaggeration, as I haven't been to every single tutu shop in New York – yet!) I snagged the most fabulous pink and gold tutu with crystal embellishments – just perfect for a night at the ballet. It was also the perfect outfit for me to rock for my Friday night performance with my "Dancing with the Stars" partner - well, "Dancing with the Ballerinas", perhaps? Anyway, he (let's just say he is tall, so we are not quite dancing partners!) was quite impressed with the glitz and sparkle. I think I may have swayed him towards the brighter colours.
Adventures in Subway Chic
Who needs a chauffeured car when you can hop on the New York subway in all your sartorial glory? (Seriously though, a real pink tutu isn't exactly metro-friendly!). Navigating the city by subway is truly an experience! My fellow commuters are so interesting and colourful. And while I've been a tutu-wearer for a long time, it still draws a few double takes as I glide through the underground labyrinth, which is almost always on time. New York's subway is not only fast and efficient but also surprisingly artistic – I have loved checking out the unique tiled stations and vibrant artwork around the platforms.
Saturday Night Street Show - A Dance Extravaganza
Saturday night was a real treat for the senses – I watched an open-air street show performance in Washington Square Park! A group of incredible street performers filled the park with vibrant dance moves and energy – hip hop, salsa, tap – everything you could possibly imagine! They brought the crowd together in an explosion of energy and joy.
Even with the slight drizzle, everyone seemed happy and invigorated. It felt so warm and inviting, especially amongst all the dancers - who weren't wearing their tutus, though. Shame! I always have some on hand if someone needs a wardrobe change! (Let’s face it - who doesn’t need to jazz up their Saturday night outfit in a gorgeous pink tutu?)
New York, New York - It’s the Only Place to Be!
Sunday brought the chance to revisit some old favourites. I went shopping in the quaint, charming neighbourhood of Chelsea, which is absolutely overflowing with charming independent shops. After all, it is true that everything old is new again. I picked up a darling little velvet ribbon to tie into my tutu (it really does just add that bit more oomph to my outfit), along with some divine rose-scented hand cream. Then, of course, a stop for a delicious and colourful slice of cheesecake in the Village, complete with sprinkles – no trip to New York is complete without a cheesecake treat! I actually even managed to get in a sneaky ballet class at one of the lovely studios in Greenwich Village before having a relaxed afternoon watching the world go by in Central Park. This really was the perfect way to end my trip, gazing out over the park’s vast greenery with a mug of steaming hot cocoa and a sense of pure bliss.
Life is a Tutu - And This is Just the Beginning!
I've packed so much fun and joy into this little NYC adventure – and my memories are overflowing. New York is such a fantastic city - full of vibrant energy and inspiring creativity. It truly does leave you feeling exhilarated and wanting more! As I hop on the plane to head back home to Derbyshire, England, I already know I’ll be back soon, hopefully with a pink tutu in hand and ready to make the most of this dazzling city!
I'd love to hear about your own favourite memories of New York – share them with me in the comments below!
Keep spreading the pink tutu love!
Until next Monday,
Emma

And remember: You can wear your tutu anywhere! So put on your prettiest pink and twirl with confidence – the world needs more sparkle!
P.P.S. Speaking of sparkle, the 2028 National Ballet Championship is in just a few weeks. I can't wait to cheer on all my fellow ballet stars – maybe even take part! Maybe I’ll catch up with the reigning queen, Lily (yes, I do know her – everyone knows Lily!). What an amazing talented young lady! I’ve really learned a lot from her – and she’s actually not half bad at the shopping part! You can catch me there at The Royal Opera House on the 24th March. Will you be there, dancing your way through the day? Let’s really get this show on the road!
