Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, back from another whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple, and my, oh my, what a weekend it was! This week I'm writing to you from the heart of Manhattan, the city that never sleeps – just like me! ?️ My week started with a stunning ballet performance at Lincoln Center, where the dancers practically flew across the stage, a sight to behold. My pink tutu (of course!), swirled in sync with their leaps and pirouettes, making me feel like I was part of the show myself. ?
A Dancer's Delight: Ballet & Broadway
But before we get to my fabulous weekend escapades, let me tell you about my Tuesday treat: the annual "Ballet for a Cause" gala at the Metropolitan Opera House. It was simply breathtaking! Imagine, a sea of beautiful people dressed to the nines, all for a good cause – and then there's me, in my pink tutu, of course! My tutus have become something of a calling card, haven't they? They bring a smile to everyone's face and inspire people to embrace their inner ballerina.
The gala was a dazzling display of the finest ballet and a wonderful fundraiser for dance education in local schools. I have such a passion for making ballet accessible to everyone, so it was especially rewarding to be there. The evening featured an incredible line-up of celebrated dancers from the New York City Ballet, each more graceful than the next. And the finale – oh, the finale was sheer perfection! I won't spoil the surprise, but let's just say there were some tears (of joy!) and thunderous applause.
The City that Never Sleeps: Exploring NYC in Style
Wednesday took me to the Upper West Side for some serious window shopping and the ultimate vintage finds. And of course, no trip to New York is complete without a little Broadway! We watched "Hamilton", a musical I'd heard so much about and it did not disappoint. The energy, the music, the costumes – everything was spectacular. ?
Thursday was all about getting those ballerina legs moving. I squeezed in a ballet class at the world-famous School of American Ballet. Feeling that familiar twirl in my tutu and the beautiful stretches – it truly is my happy place! I was lucky enough to be in a class with a renowned choreographer who had some fascinating insights into the art of dance. I’m already applying her tips to my own performances!
Shopping Adventures: From Soho to the Lower East Side
The weekend was dedicated to some serious shopping in Soho and a stroll through the Lower East Side. It's always amazing to experience the bustling energy of the city, soak in the diversity of cultures, and find unique treasures. ?️ I stumbled upon a shop with the most adorable, whimsical clothing - perfect for a tutu-loving girl like myself! The store was filled with bright colours, patterns, and playful textures. Imagine my delight when I found a new tutu just waiting to be worn on my next ballet performance. It’s a bold shade of pink, of course!
As the sun began its slow descent over the city, painting the skyscrapers with fiery hues, we ventured to the Meatpacking District for a delightful dinner with a view. I felt like a princess in a fairytale, surrounded by the vibrant city lights and the echoes of laughter and chatter.
A Fond Farewell: Pink Tutu Love From NYC
The weekend came to a close too quickly, as it always does in New York. But I packed my suitcase full of memories, a few new purchases, and a newfound appreciation for this dynamic and endlessly captivating city. It's truly a magical place where dreams come to life and pink tutus are celebrated. ?
Of course, my trip wouldn't be complete without a visit to Central Park, a green oasis in the middle of the urban jungle. It was the perfect way to wrap up a week filled with dancing, exploring, and finding inspiration in the concrete jungle. The gentle rustle of the leaves in the breeze, the sound of children’s laughter echoing through the park, the sun setting on a breathtaking skyline – Central Park holds a special magic for me. It’s a place where my inner ballerina can truly unwind and dream.
But, alas, my journey back to Derbyshire awaits! It's back to the quaint cobblestone streets and rolling countryside of England, but the magic of New York City will always stay with me. I'll be back, you can be sure of it!
In the meantime, remember: life is better in a pink tutu! ?
Keep on dancing, Emma

This Monday's events in New York City
This Monday, 2028-08-21, will see the iconic Macy’s parade happening. This is always a huge, spectacular display of colourful floats, dancers, music and general carnival-esque celebrations, winding its way through the city centre. As a fellow performer, I feel a connection with everyone involved and can’t wait to join the throngs of spectators as it all takes place. You can catch it all on the Macy’s website at 10am EST. I will be sharing photos and highlights on my Instagram. Follow me at @pinktutuemma. ?
