Good morning, my lovely readers! Welcome back to the Pink Tutu Blog, your weekly dose of all things pink, fabulous and, of course, tutu-rific!
This week, I'm back in my favourite city – New York City! As I write this, I can almost hear the buzz of the streets from my little hotel room overlooking Central Park. Oh, the magic of this city never ceases to amaze me. This time, however, there’s a special little extra sparkle in the air - a show stopping gala opening night performance of "The Nutcracker" in the legendary Lincoln Center! Yes, you heard right, dear readers, my fellow ballet aficionados – it’s going to be a week full of swirling tutus, toe-tapping music and a sprinkle of theatrical magic!
But let's rewind for a moment and tell you about the journey…
Getting Here: The Joy of the Metro
I arrived at JFK on a glorious, sun-drenched Friday afternoon, and there's nothing quite like that moment you see the city skyline for the first time – a kaleidoscope of dazzling steel and glass shimmering under the warm New York sunshine. It never gets old.
And, as any self-respecting ballerina with a suitcase full of pink tutus knows, the best way to get around this concrete jungle is on the iconic metro. Don't worry, the metro itself isn't a ballet performance, although there are definitely times I feel like pirouetting through the carriages with a grand jeté down the platform!
It’s Always a Fashion Adventure in NYC
Once I'd settled in and gotten my bearings, it was straight into the vibrant heart of Manhattan to soak up the dazzling retail therapy that only New York can offer. Fashion in this city is like a chameleon - shifting with each block, with the most captivating and individual street styles imaginable. There's something for everyone, and that's exactly what I love.
For this trip, my personal style has been a vibrant combination of classic ballerina elegance with a dash of NYC sass. Think tulle and lace adorned with bold pops of colour - oh, and definitely a generous sprinkling of pink! And wouldn't you know it, the boutiques along Fifth Avenue were positively brimming with my favourite hue. I'd almost be disappointed if I wasn't overwhelmed with an explosion of blush-tinted cashmere sweaters, shocking pink silk scarves, and, of course, pink tutus galore!
Ballet Beauty & A Night of Sparkle at the Lincoln Center
Now, let's talk about the most exciting part of this trip! Tonight, I'll be witnessing a spectacle that embodies the spirit of New York – the opening night of "The Nutcracker" at the legendary Lincoln Center! It's going to be a breathtaking show with a symphony of colours and movements, each step choreographed to perfection. I can already feel the anticipation tingling!
I've already purchased my special pink tulle gown – yes, it matches my love for the city perfectly – adorned with delicate sequins that sparkle like a million stars, just like the lights that paint the NYC skyline. This is my perfect outfit for celebrating this beautiful art form and the timeless classic that is “The Nutcracker”.
Speaking of timeless classics, my own style journey has evolved quite a bit since I was a little girl, twirling around in my favourite pink tutu in Derbyshire. Back then, I couldn’t imagine wearing anything else. And while I do adore my tutus more than anything else in the world, now my fashion tastes extend to every color in the rainbow and are influenced by everything around me – from the grand and elegant, to the playful and bohemian. I suppose you could say that "growing up" and "finding your style" go hand-in-hand, like a beautiful ballet pas de deux.
A Whirlwind of Fashion and Performance
For those of you who don’t know me – my name’s Emma and I’m from a little village in Derbyshire, England. I was a passionate ballerina even back then, dancing with such a fervor that I practically twirled my way out of childhood and straight into the enchanting world of dance. From Derbyshire to New York City – a journey fuelled by tutus, glitter, and my endless love for performance and style!
As my time here in the city moves forward, I can tell this is going to be one of those truly special weeks. The next few days are a blur of rehearsals, Broadway showings, and of course, shopping for that special tutu for tomorrow night's performance at the renowned Manhattan Dance Academy - I’m just brimming with excitement, dear readers, and I'll be sure to tell you all about it in my next post!
