Hello, my darlings! It's Monday, the 12th of February 2029, and your favourite pink tutu-clad ballerina is back with a whirlwind of a blog post straight from the heart of New York City!
This past week has been a magical blend of ballet, Broadway, and of course, copious amounts of pink! ? I touched down in the Big Apple earlier this week, fuelled by a recent triumph on stage back in Derbyshire. A dazzling performance in a shimmering pink tutu, naturally! ?
Speaking of shimmering, New York has a particular sparkle about it, doesn't it? It’s a city that always keeps you on your toes, constantly in motion, and ready for a new adventure around every corner. I mean, even the subway system is a fashion show in itself, with the diverse mix of people rushing around.
This time around, I've decided to focus on showcasing a few hidden gems of New York that have captured my ballerina heart. Let's dive in, shall we?
First stop - a ballet class that made my pirouettes sing!
I’m a huge believer in finding a little bit of ballet magic wherever you go, and NYC is brimming with it. So, after unpacking my pink suitcase (and let me tell you, that's quite the chore, packing enough pink tutus for a week-long trip!), I ventured to a ballet class at the Dance Center in Midtown. Now, this studio isn't just a class; it's an experience! They offer everything from classic ballet technique to contemporary, and even hip-hop classes - a fantastic mix that really caters to every style.
Imagine a spacious studio filled with sunlight streaming in, adorned with mirrors that seemed to go on forever, reflecting not just our every move, but our passion for the art form. And of course, no ballerina would be complete without their trusty leotard! This studio has a whole section dedicated to adorable, chic dancewear in every colour imaginable - of course, I couldn't resist adding a couple of pieces to my collection, including a gorgeous hot pink leotard. ?
My favourite pink tutu? Oh, that's a tough one!
Let's be honest, I have a weakness for pretty pink tutus - just ask my wardrobe! But for this trip, I decided to bring a special one: a dreamy, tiered tulle tutu, in a colour that I call 'bubblegum blush'. It's soft and ethereal, just like a ballet dream, and the perfect choice for exploring the city! I paired it with a sleek, black turtleneck, which gave the outfit a contemporary edge while keeping the pink tutu the undeniable star of the show.
As I strolled down the bustling Fifth Avenue, I could feel the tutus rustling gently with every step, the delicate fabric dancing along with the city rhythm. It’s amazing how a little touch of pink can transform even the most crowded street into a whimsical fairytale.
Let’s talk Broadway! ?
No trip to New York City is complete without an evening on Broadway! It's where the biggest, boldest, most dazzling shows take the stage and leave audiences spellbound.
This time around, I treated myself to a ticket for Moulin Rouge! The Musical, which was simply sensational! I have to confess, the costume design for the musical is truly incredible. There was one particular dress, an enormous pink sequined number, that had me gasping. Imagine the amount of work it took to bring such a dramatic, oversized dress to life on stage! It's an amazing display of craftsmanship and artistry.
As I exited the theatre, the energy of the city seemed to pulse around me. New York City always reminds me of a ballet itself, with people dancing in and out of life, each with their own story to tell. It's such a vibrant, multi-layered place!
Pink moments amidst the concrete jungle
My favourite part of traveling is stumbling upon those unexpected, delightful moments that turn the ordinary into extraordinary. For example, did you know that the New York City Subway has a special "arts in transit" program? Every once in a while, you'll see artists showcase their work in subway stations! During this trip, I had the pleasure of encountering an exhibition by a talented street artist. His creations were truly inspired by New York City, using bold colours, graphic imagery, and elements of urban life. He was working right there, on the spot, adding splashes of pink, blue, and yellow to his pieces, transforming a dull subway platform into a vibrant canvas.
Of course, my time in the Big Apple wasn't just about ballet and Broadway - shopping was absolutely essential! ?️ I have a real fondness for finding the perfect piece in the right shade of pink, which takes quite a lot of searching in this city, believe me!
I visited the new flagship store of Saks Fifth Avenue. You guys wouldn’t believe the selection of pink footwear! From vibrant bubblegum to muted rose-gold, my heart skipped a beat just walking through the doors. As always, it took me a while to choose my favourite, but finally, I found it: a pair of sparkly pink heels, just the right height for my ballet-trained legs! The kind that could make any ballerina feel like she could take on the world, or at least the fashion world.
Of course, I also took a stroll down the vibrant streets of Soho, where vintage fashion houses jostle for attention. It’s a place that radiates creativity and boldness!
Pink Power, even in the concrete jungle!
One of my main missions for every city I visit is to spread the Pink Tutu gospel. It's not just about fashion, it's about embracing a little whimsy, a dash of elegance, and reminding ourselves to live life a bit more colourfully. It’s amazing how many people stop me in the street, wanting to have a chat, some asking me where I got my tutus, and even a few trying on a few twirls themselves. My mission, it seems, is steadily gaining momentum.
From the bustling streets of Soho to the elegance of the ballet studio, this week has been a dream come true. As I sit here, penning this post from a charming cafe in the East Village (I discovered a hidden gem with an extraordinary pistachio cake, a must-try!), my pink tutu feels more like a symbol of New York City itself - vibrant, eclectic, full of heart.
Don’t forget to catch me next Monday on www.pink-tutu.com for my next NYC adventure! Until then, my darlings, remember to embrace your own personal "pink tutu" and twirl through life with your head held high! ?
Yours in pink, Emma ?
