Hello my lovely readers! It's Monday morning here in New York City and, as always, the sunshine is beaming down on this gorgeous metropolis. As you all know, it's my absolute pleasure to bring you a little slice of pink tutu paradise every week, direct from the heart of this exhilarating city. This week I’ve been spinning and twirling with delight, indulging my passion for ballet and soaking up the incredible fashion scene, naturally!
Today is Monday 6th August, 2029 and it's shaping up to be another absolutely fabulous day. My week started with a phenomenal ballet performance at the Lincoln Center - and let me tell you, the costumes were simply divine! I absolutely adored the intricate detail, the use of exquisite fabrics, and, of course, the breathtaking colour palettes. We’re all about pink here at Pink Tutu Blog, but even I must admit, seeing those costumes in their dramatic, yet exquisitely crafted glory, gave me serious sartorial inspiration!
It wouldn't be a true New York experience without indulging in a little bit of shopping, would it? After the ballet, I ventured into the heart of Manhattan and oh my! It was like a haven for every pink-loving fashionista, every boutique was brimming with potential new tutu additions to my collection. I have to admit, my shopping bags are looking a little heavier than usual this week...but that's what happens when you encounter such beautiful, fabulous things!
But enough about my fabulous sartorial discoveries – it’s time to get back to what truly matters… ballet! After all, I’ve got a barre class later this afternoon with some lovely fellow dancers. They all say that New York is all about speed and dynamism. I find it's not just the city, but also my chosen passion! Ballet here has a vibrant, exciting energy, it’s intoxicating, but equally as calming, helping me feel centered and completely present in this buzzing, brilliant metropolis!
Speaking of being present and calm – I really must confess that the moment I step on to a subway platform in this city, all is good with the world. There’s something really magical about zipping around under the ground, travelling the city on those beautiful silver trains – you always get the most extraordinary mix of passengers, a real snapshot of this truly cosmopolitan place.
My adventures began in good ol’ Derbyshire, England, where I used to spend hours twirling in my tutu in the family living room. Never did I dream of seeing myself perform on the iconic stages of the New York City ballet scene! That is why this little slice of blog paradise has to be my little piece of London… in America!
If you're feeling adventurous enough to try your own tutu journey, just picture yourself. Imagine yourself swirling through the heart of this glorious city, a graceful, whirling ballerina, with a touch of Derbyshire whimsy, ready to take on anything! This is exactly how I feel as I waltz around New York – life’s an adventure, it’s time to wear the pink and be fabulous!
But this isn't all I've been up to, of course! Let me fill you in on the highlights of my latest Pink Tutu adventures…
My Little London in New York
Remember that lovely London vibe I mentioned before? I really felt like I was transported back to my hometown earlier this week when I popped over to the West Village. It's absolutely bursting with charm - the quaint little shops, the beautiful cobblestone streets, and that sense of relaxed, homely energy. I simply adore it!
And for a real dose of quintessential London nostalgia, I couldn't resist a little visit to the Shakespearean Garden! Nestled right in the heart of the West Village, this is a truly peaceful sanctuary in the heart of the city. There's a lovely atmosphere of calm amidst the vibrant foliage, it was truly a delight to escape into its peaceful embrace! I even brought my pink tutu to sit on the iconic white painted bench near the little pond. Of course, there had to be a little Instagram moment of my little piece of London. My post reached over 10,000 likes! You guys are the best.
Speaking of London… a certain well-known American icon is in town this week. And who doesn’t love The Beatles, am I right?! Yes! The ‘Fab Four’ themselves were right here on stage at Radio City Music Hall! Talk about nostalgia. You know how much I love the energy of live performances and these four legends were magnetic. You couldn’t wipe the smiles from the faces of the whole crowd! It was absolutely exhilarating. Even though my heart still lies with those delicate ballerinas twirling around on stage – The Beatles put on a fantastic show. It's fair to say I’m still humming “Hey Jude” days later…
Pink Tutu Performances
Now, let’s get back to the things that truly matter. You all know how much I love sharing the magic of ballet with you and, my darlings, it was another phenomenal week for performance, and another week where I could share my little bit of passion. And as if you didn't already know, this means a little pink tutu was also present!
This week was all about the Broadway stages! Yes! You know I am always drawn to the grand spectacle that is the theatrical world. Broadway gives you something unique, an artistic punch that is almost addictive! The stories, the talent on stage… all enhanced with the magnificent sets and spectacular costumes – how could you ever tire of this magic?
First up this week was the phenomenal “Anastasia”! What a truly breathtaking spectacle of ballet – it was absolutely mesmerizing. I have to admit, there’s nothing like the adrenaline rush of stepping into a world of magic, fairy tales, and dancing - particularly in the glorious surroundings of Broadway. It's so very important to keep pushing those boundaries and exploring new aspects of the dance world, that is why “Anastasia” was definitely a ballet must-see! You can probably guess what I adored most about this piece. That's right, it was the spectacular costumes. From intricate gowns to breathtaking tutus – each piece was a piece of art itself. My heart is already fluttering for my next “Anastasia” adventure!
New York: Always a Treat!
But let’s return to my little pink tutu paradise and have a chat about why I love New York so much… As you know, New York is one of those cities where everything is buzzing - it’s never-ending and a truly remarkable place to watch the world go by, a city of extraordinary stories, and exciting artistic discoveries, which really does appeal to my own sense of adventurous curiosity.
I've been coming to New York regularly since I moved to America a couple of years ago to pursue my passion for the arts – but each visit is just as breathtaking, inspiring, and completely magical as the last. You never know what’s just around the corner.
One of the great things about New York is it has that real sense of discovery about it - like you can’t really explore it fully, it’s an unfolding experience…
My absolute favourite thing about this city though has to be the feeling of neverending energy and creativity – the moment you step on to the subway platform, or wander past the art installations in the park, it is impossible not to feel this city's raw energy buzzing right through you. There are so many artistic spaces to explore here - I often have to limit myself because, to be honest, there isn’t enough time! It is so difficult to leave once I've been in New York for a few days! It truly is a wonderful feeling to be completely immersed in this unique, exhilarating metropolis, and to witness first-hand the way the creative minds of the city always push boundaries, seek to break rules and create new ones, and then tell truly unique and spectacular stories – it's absolutely intoxicating!
And that, my darlings, is what I call a good week! Of course, this is all part of my ballet career, but let’s get real – life is not just about taking leaps and bounds across the stage. As I’m sure many of you know – we have to fund those dreams. As many of you already know, that's where my ballets, shows and tutu workshops come in! They allow me to chase my ballet dreams, in this city that never sleeps…
Next week, new dreams. See you next Monday!
Yours in pink,
Emma
