Hello my gorgeous readers! ?? It’s Emma here, and I’m SO excited to be back with another #PinkTutuBlogNYC post from the heart of New York City. I have to admit, the energy here is electric - it just gets right under your skin and makes you want to twirl, darling! And believe me, I have been twirling a lot this week!
As you know, New York is my happy place, and my favourite city in the world. I’ve always adored this vibrant, chaotic metropolis. From its world-famous museums and galleries, to the hustle and bustle of Broadway and Times Square, to the deliciousness of the food scene, New York City really has it all! Oh, and don't even get me started on the shopping! ??
But honestly, my true love affair with New York is fuelled by the ballet. This city boasts some of the finest ballet companies in the world, and you can feel the passion for dance everywhere you go. The city truly resonates with the elegance, the strength, the joy of movement that defines ballet, and it's always inspiring me. ?
This week, my travels in New York have been focused on exploring the ballet scene in the city. As you all know, my pink tutu has become my signature look and I always carry it with me, wherever I go, but I felt inspired to take my ballerina spirit up a notch! And so, last night I had the ultimate treat: a stunning performance of Swan Lake at the Lincoln Center.
Can we just agree that Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake is a true masterpiece? The emotional intensity of the music paired with the sheer technical skill of the dancers was mesmerizing. Oh, and the costumes! Let’s just say I was positively enthralled with the dramatic impact of those iconic white tutus! I am absolutely certain I’m going to channel a little Swan Lake energy into my own style for next week. ?✨
Speaking of fashion, a visit to the heart of Manhattan is not complete without indulging in a bit of retail therapy, right? Well, after the show, I was simply obligated to pop over to the new Emporio Armani boutique on 5th Avenue. Needless to say, it's positively divine. I’m obsessed with the elegance and refinement of Armani, and of course, their exquisite fabrics and cuts are absolutely made for twirling in. Let’s just say there’s a beautiful silk dress I might be adding to my wardrobe very soon... winks
And I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t make a trip down to Bloomingdales to check out their latest designer collections. My eyes are particularly on the exquisite ballet flats and elegant ballerina inspired footwear that is so on trend this season. What I loved about this collection, is that the designers really understand the spirit of a dancer and the needs of our bodies, and they've designed ballet flats that are both stylish and functional. ? (No need to sacrifice your comfort for fashion!)
Let's not forget my beloved city subway, the iconic 'New York' Metro! For me, riding the Metro is an essential part of the NYC experience. I love weaving through the throngs of New Yorkers - there’s a kind of joyful chaos to it! This week, I even caught a glimpse of a teenager practicing pirouettes while waiting for his train! That made my day. There’s something utterly fascinating about seeing ballet inspiring people in their everyday lives!
Talking of inspiration, New York really has something to offer everyone. And that, dear readers, is one of the main reasons why it's so close to my heart. I feel like I can truly be myself here, and nobody bats an eyelid! There’s a certain kind of magical acceptance of all sorts of quirks and idiosyncrasies here.
Speaking of quirks, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that I made a very important visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art this week. For any art lover, it's an absolute must! They have some truly spectacular pieces from around the world, but the one thing I really loved about this place is the feeling of ‘timelessness’. For a moment, the entire world seemed to stand still. I couldn’t help thinking about the incredible beauty of classical ballet - which, you guessed it, draws on similar ideals of perfection, elegance and discipline!
Of course, after a day of museum hopping, I couldn't resist indulging in a delicious pastry at one of New York’s finest bakeries, The Spotted Pig! Now, this isn’t a place for delicate dandies. But, the flavours were divine. And to be fair, some of those flaky pastries have a pretty elegant twirl!
You can be sure that I will continue to keep you updated on all my favourite finds as I explore the city. And as always, I will be wearing my signature pink tutu for every adventure! ?
