Good morning, my darlings!
It’s a gloriously sunny Monday here in the Big Apple, and I’m buzzing with excitement. The energy here is just electric – there’s so much happening in this city! And yes, it is the perfect place to dance into my very first New York autumn, donning a new blush pink tutu I snagged at a vintage store in the Village – it's just divine!
Speaking of snags, did I tell you about my amazing new shoes? They are a pale pink pair of custom-made ballet slippers that perfectly complement this gorgeous tutu. I can’t wait to get some street-style snaps taken when I’m back in Derbyshire next week! (It's hard to capture the magic of these city streets with your iPhone – just saying! So keep a look out for those pics soon, my loves!)
Oh, my travels! This whirlwind weekend has been full of tutu delights. From catching the latest Broadway show – a modern reimagining of Swan Lake, absolutely sensational! – to discovering hidden gems on Fifth Avenue – including a gorgeous boutique filled with ballet-inspired accessories!
But first things first, I’d better catch you up on my metro journey. Let me tell you, nothing beats the feeling of being whisked away by a speeding train through the bowels of New York, with the clanging symphony of wheels on tracks in the background. I just love the hustle and bustle of a city train. But here in the states, the ladies all wear stilettos and the men – well they wear absolutely fabulous stilettos, too, which I think is just so fun. I mean, what a perfect way to embrace a bit of glamor in your daily routine? (Let’s be honest – nothing gets those stylish knees moving quicker than a New York Metro journey, especially when the whole carriage is brimming with tourists. The art of ballet can make a metro journey feel oh-so elegant!)
You wouldn’t believe how many envious looks I got when I gracefully swung my legs up onto the opposite seat, and did a few little tendus whilst waiting for the doors to open. My heart is overflowing with pride to spread the pink tutu message wherever I go! The city seemed to understand my message, and with every twirl, it felt as if my tutu was calling out to the entire city, "Pink is for everyone! Join me and twirl!"
So, what else is there to tell you?
After the Broadway extravaganza, where we were seated in a stunning Art Deco box – a little piece of fairytale tucked into a busy Manhattan theatre - I whipped my tutu-clad legs over to a fabulous, late-night crepe bar, just off Fifth Avenue, which was recommended by my friend from the ballet academy I took class at the other day. I found out that my instructor here is from Derbyshire, too! And you wouldn't believe it, we were discussing The Royal Ballet in Covent Garden (can you tell I have English ballerina roots?!) I've had the absolute best time here with such friendly locals - just proof that the tutu connection knows no bounds. It truly makes my little tutu-clad heart soar.
Oh, how I just can't get enough of those stylish boutiques and vintage stores here. From a vintage store in Brooklyn I snagged a fabulous pink ballet wrap with pink sequins all around, to a cute little dress for a Sunday evening walk in Central Park. It's a kaleidoscope of colour! But as ever, pink always catches my eye. It is truly my most-loved shade!

Tuesday is a little ballet lesson with my instructor in Brooklyn. We're looking at choreography in pointe shoes for my new ballet performance at the beginning of next month. Can you believe I am dancing to “In The Mood”, from the 1930s film? I think this music will really bring a different aspect to a ballet routine. Just thinking of how exciting this show is going to be. Oh my! I do love those bright, sassy shoes!
Wednesday - a full day at the studio, performing, then rehearsals for that special piece – "Tutulicious" with the New York troupe. We are on for our "First Nights" production of this modern piece, based around different tutu styles from throughout ballet history. I'm really proud of it, we have had some incredible sessions already. So exciting! I'll try and capture the essence of "Tutulicious" and give you a peek on www.pink-tutu.com next Monday! I just can’t wait. It’s going to be phenomenal.
But, for now, I need to get back to enjoying all the tutu fun in the city! The city lights beckon me, the smell of those sweet NYC hotdogs! I have a whole weekend planned - I even have a tour to one of the many studios in the city booked – the ultimate dream date!
