Hello lovelies, and welcome back to another Monday instalment of the Pink Tutu Blog! ?✨
This week I'm writing to you from the most incredible, vibrant, and energy-filled city on the planet... New York City! As I sit here at my little table in my chic (and, of course, pink!) hotel room, looking out at the bustling streets below, I can't help but feel like I've truly stepped into a dream.
I'm actually here for a very special reason - I've been invited to perform in the New York Ballet Showcase at the iconic Lincoln Center. Talk about a dream come true! Imagine, me, a little ballerina from Derbyshire, England, performing on such a grand stage! It truly is a magical opportunity, and I can't wait to share all the details with you soon.
But, let's be honest, my journey here was just as much about the adventure as it was about the performance. And New York never disappoints! Since my arrival on Friday, I've been making the most of this beautiful city. It's always an absolute whirlwind of colour, noise, and excitement, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
The Metro: My Pink Tutu on a Subway Adventure
I couldn't resist starting my NYC adventures with a classic: a trip on the iconic subway. I confess, I do love the London Underground, but the New York subway is truly on a whole other level.
This city never sleeps, and the metro is the perfect way to see that in action. The energy, the mix of cultures, the hurried pace... It's an absolute joyride! Plus, the metro stations themselves are fascinating works of art. It's truly amazing how they've transformed such utilitarian spaces into fascinating pieces of architecture.
I may have been a little nervous initially, the thought of squeezing myself into the packed trains in a full-length pink tutu was quite a novelty! But fear not, the New Yorkers were so kind, even holding doors for this flamboyant ballerina! The entire experience, with all its chaos and quirkiness, just felt so delightfully New York.
A Shopping Spree on Fifth Avenue
No trip to New York is complete without a stroll down the legendary Fifth Avenue, and let me tell you, my darling, it did not disappoint! I mean, what’s a girl with a passion for fashion and a penchant for pink going to do in New York? ?️?
Of course, a day of window-shopping (and a little bit of actual shopping!) was a must. The stores on Fifth Avenue are truly magnificent - grand and stylish, a beautiful testament to the fashion capital of the world. It's such an inspiring experience, just seeing the window displays and soaking in the vibe.
I ended up snagging a beautiful pink silk scarf, just the perfect touch to complete any of my tutu-clad outfits. The colours were just exquisite, and it instantly reminded me of my time in Central Park, a lovely vibrant reminder of the magic I felt in this city. I even spotted a pair of heels that were perfectly suited to my favourite tutu… pink, of course! ?
Dinner with a View at the Rainbow Room
On Saturday night, I had a rather extravagant treat for myself. I booked a table at the Rainbow Room - a breathtaking Art Deco restaurant situated atop the GE Building with unparalleled views of the city skyline. It felt like I was dining in the clouds!
Now, you might be thinking: "But Emma, isn't the Rainbow Room a bit too glam for your pink tutu?" Well, I can assure you, my lovely readers, I did not hesitate! After all, when you’ve spent all day exploring this vibrant, dynamic city in a pink tutu, why should that end?
As the sun dipped below the horizon, bathing the city in a golden glow, and the twinkling lights of the metropolis started to emerge, I sipped my champagne and enjoyed a delicious dinner. It was truly magical and felt so fitting for my NYC adventure!
Central Park, a Breath of Fresh Air
After all that bustling city life, a day at the iconic Central Park felt like a blessed reprieve. The moment I stepped inside the park, I was struck by its peacefulness. This vast expanse of greenery felt like an oasis amidst the concrete jungle, the fresh air, the sounds of nature – it felt like I had taken a step back in time.
As I wandered through the park, taking in the fresh air and enjoying the gorgeous scenery, I just had to break out into a little impromptu ballet. It felt so right to be surrounded by nature, with the autumn colours painting the landscape with breathtaking hues of reds, yellows, and oranges, feeling the breeze brush past my pink tutu… Oh, the poetry of it all!
I discovered a lovely little open-air stage nestled amidst the trees where local ballet groups performed and gave mini dance workshops for the children, with the most gorgeous, light, and whimsical music playing. My heart nearly burst with joy, it was just too cute!
Today’s Event – Broadway Bound!
So here I am, Monday morning, feeling invigorated after a busy weekend in the city. And guess what's on my agenda for tonight? I'm attending the premiere of a new musical, "The Enchanted Ballerina." Can you believe it?! A brand new musical, with a ballerina at its heart, and me, a ballerina myself, at the premiere. The perfect ending to my incredible week in New York. I’m even thinking of going for my first "New York Glam" style, a dark pink sequined leotard underneath a full skirt.
It’s going to be spectacular! The stage, the music, the performance… I can already imagine it. But the real joy, you see, lies in the simple moments in between. The conversations with fellow ballet enthusiasts, the excitement, the joy that you just can't replicate anywhere else! I can't wait to share the experience with you tomorrow in the next post!
And of course, the cherry on top? Seeing the city bathed in the lights of a thousand stages as the night settles. I know it’s only been a few days, but New York City, you already have a special place in my heart.
Until tomorrow, Emma ?
