Prague Dreams: Ballet, Blouses, and Bonnets - Post #8
Bonjour, chérie! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another fabulous Pink Tutu adventure. This week, we're whisking ourselves to the enchanting city of Prague!
The journey itself was half the fun. The train from Vienna was a delight – the rhythmic clicking of the wheels, the lush green landscapes rushing by the window, and of course, the chance to finally wear my new pink blouse. I picked it up in a delightful boutique in Vienna, nestled among a hundred vintage lace parasols and floral brooches – the perfect little gem to complete my travel look!
Prague, with its cobblestone streets and whimsical architecture, is the perfect setting for a tutu-loving girl like me. Just stepping out of the train station and onto the bustling Charles Bridge, my senses went into overdrive. The historic buildings seemed to be bathed in a gentle, golden light, casting long shadows on the cobblestones. The air buzzed with the energy of life – a symphony of street performers, chattering tourists, and the tinkling of a nearby ice cream cart. I was in heaven!
Speaking of heaven, what better way to celebrate arriving in Prague than with a fabulous ballet show? It’s no secret that I’m a lifelong ballet enthusiast, so of course I researched local productions before arriving. I was absolutely thrilled to discover a performance of Giselle at the National Theatre tonight! I'd been yearning to see Giselle since I saw it at the Royal Opera House last year. This was my chance!
And of course, I didn't forget to accessorise my outfit appropriately. My ballet-pink tutu was my trusty companion – always a statement, always perfect for the occasion. A beautiful embroidered shawl in vibrant floral patterns was my choice to brave the slightly cooler evening air. I topped it off with a charming straw boater with a delicate pink ribbon, the perfect hat to complete my “elegant ballerina goes to the opera” look.
You know, I’m a big believer in wearing whatever makes you feel confident. And tutus just scream "confidence," wouldn't you agree? So, it came as no surprise to me when I spotted several fellow tutu wearers amongst the crowd on my way to the theatre. They were sporting tutus in various hues and styles – lavender, mint green, and even a vibrant fuchsia number that stopped me in my tracks. We exchanged smiles, a silent bond of pink tulle united us – it was simply magical!
Pink Tutu Facts: From Bohemia to the Ballet Stage
It would be criminal to visit Prague without delving into its rich history. Prague has been the hub of Bohemia for centuries and holds fascinating links to dance and fashion.
The early 19th century, during the Romantic Era, was a time of immense influence on the development of ballet. Bohemian and Czech artists embraced romanticism's emotional depth, exploring themes of nature, folklore, and human emotion. Ballet followed this trend, weaving elaborate narratives, whimsical dances, and breathtaking costuming into its repertoire. Giselle, with its captivating story of love, betrayal, and supernatural tragedy, is a prime example of this Romantic spirit!
Did you know? The history of the tutu actually stretches back to the early 18th century. In the beginning, women wore elaborate, floor-length dresses for ballet. However, as ballet evolved and choreography became more demanding, requiring fluidity of movement, shorter skirts, like those you find in modern tutus, began to gain traction.
Exploring Prague Through the Lens of a Pink Tutu
Prague itself seems to whisper with its rich history. Around every corner is another enchanting alleyway, a stunning architectural masterpiece, or a lively café.
My personal favourite was my wander through the charming Old Town Square, an atmospheric setting filled with beautiful medieval buildings, cobblestones, and fountains. I made sure to capture this charming location for Instagram – how could I not, in my pink tutu? My pictures even got a couple of curious stares from local women in chic pastel hues – it's never easy trying to keep it chic but not too much.
Later, we spent the afternoon strolling through the vibrant streets of the Prague New Town. Its elegant boutiques offered a fascinating glimpse into Czech fashion. I found some adorable, handmade porcelain ballerina figurines. They will look perfect adorning the dresser in my Derbyshire home.
One thing that truly stood out during my trip was the food! From traditional Czech dumplings and creamy goulash to fresh, juicy fruits from local markets – every bite was a taste of delight. Even my desserts – freshly baked apple strudel with a hint of cinnamon and delicate fruit tarts bursting with flavour, brought a touch of fairytale charm to my day.
Prague By Pony!
No trip to Prague would be complete without venturing out beyond the city's charming core. I knew I wanted a more leisurely, romantic way to explore, something truly off the beaten path. So, I took a delightful ride on a beautiful white pony through the rolling hills of Prague!
Yes, you heard that right, my dear readers – pony riding! Picture me, perched on the back of a gentle creature, with the breeze in my hair, and a tutu swishing alongside me. The beautiful scenery unfolded before me - lush green meadows, majestic ancient forests, and tiny, quaint villages dotted across the landscape.
Pink Tutu, Prague, and a Magical Week
It's a magical feeling, embracing the beauty of Prague while wearing my pink tutu. The world is my stage, and Prague, with its captivating beauty and welcoming atmosphere, provided the perfect backdrop.
The final night arrived far too soon. I bid farewell to the city lights reflecting on the Vltava River, reminiscing on my memories of delicious meals, whimsical streets, and charming encounters. I also had to bid farewell to the little white pony who gave me such a magical experience. I am grateful for the warm embrace of this captivating city and will definitely be returning to explore Prague’s magic.
