Pink Tutu Prague: Post #126 – A Ballerina's Dream Come True!

Hello darlings,

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Prague blog post! This week, I'm brimming with excitement because I'm sharing my experiences from one of the most enchanting cities in Europe - Prague! Oh, darling, this place is pure magic! And to add to the enchantment, today is September 24th, 1997!

Now, if you've been following my blog, you know that I have a penchant for a touch of pink and, naturally, a massive soft spot for tutus. So, imagine my joy when I landed in this beautiful city and realised that a trip to the National Theatre was on the agenda! This wasn't just any ballet show; it was Giselle, a romantic classic about love, loss, and the supernatural. This iconic ballet, originally premiered in 1841, is a favourite of mine, so imagine my excitement!

Before heading to the theatre, though, I needed to get myself suitably decked out for the evening. After all, it wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Prague experience without the appropriate attire! Now, Prague has the most adorable little boutiques; some tucked away on cobbled streets, others overlooking the grand Charles Bridge. I spent a glorious hour discovering exquisite pieces of vintage clothing and delicate silk scarves, each one perfectly complementing my own ballerina style. I also managed to find the most delicate and dainty pair of ballet slippers, the perfect footwear for my little soirée.

But no trip to Prague would be complete without some truly luxurious shopping. So, I ventured into one of the most elegant department stores I've ever seen, and the excitement was almost overwhelming! This emporium boasted exquisite clothes from designers worldwide - silk, sequins, chiffon, lace, and so many glorious pink shades! I'm rather pleased with my haul – I found a silk scarf with an intricate paisley design that is just perfect for tying around my bun for ballet class (it’s oh so glamorous!), and a little black dress with delicate sequin details, ready for a night on the town. The cherry on top was finding a blush pink velvet bolero that will make any outfit simply sparkle.

As evening fell and the lights of Prague twinkled around me, I took a horse-drawn carriage to the National Theatre. It’s just like something out of a fairytale, with the cobblestones echoing with the clip-clop of the horse's hooves, the scent of woodsmoke in the air, and a soft glow from the city's illuminated landmarks. It was the perfect prelude to a captivating evening of ballet.

The theatre itself is truly awe-inspiring. With its grand façade and beautiful neo-Renaissance architecture, it stands as a testament to the city's rich cultural heritage. It's a ballet lover's dream come true! And, of course, I had to dress for the occasion. You know me, darling, there's always a tutu on hand, so naturally, I wore a light pink, tulle creation that whispered softly with each twirl. The exquisite lace details on my dress were perfect with the beautiful Victorian atmosphere of the theatre.

The performance itself was nothing short of phenomenal! The dancers were masterful, gliding across the stage with such elegance and grace. It was pure joy to watch them translate the beauty of the story onto the stage. The dramatic story of Giselle, a peasant girl deceived by love and consumed by grief, unfolds with such intensity and raw emotion. Every intricate step, every nuanced gesture told the story of the heartbroken ballerina. And to say I was impressed with their athleticism and technical ability would be a severe understatement - these were truly talented ballerinas at the top of their game!

After the performance, I joined the rest of the audience in the elegant grand foyer, feeling the lingering magic of the show in the air. The music, the movements, the sheer talent, it all combined to create an evening that I'll never forget. This theatre, this ballet, this beautiful city - I just cannot express the joy!

Before returning to my little pink haven - a hotel right on the charming old town square, just a stone's throw from the clock tower - I lingered on the steps of the theatre, watching the city light up under the September moon. And you know, darling, that's what Prague does. It fills you with joy, it inspires, it transports you to a realm of magic, and leaves you with an overwhelming sense of wonder and beauty.

This beautiful city is a treasure chest full of stories, history, and artistic gems waiting to be discovered. Every corner is bursting with life, whether it be a bustling marketplace, a cobbled alleyway leading to a secret courtyard, or a bustling café where you can watch the world go by. And, of course, there are always exquisite ballet performances. The Czechs have such a long and illustrious tradition of dance. From the historical ballet company, founded in 1868, to the countless ballet schools, the city breathes, moves, and dances with grace.

Oh darling, this trip has truly been an experience I won’t soon forget, and the highlight, of course, was attending a magnificent ballet at the National Theatre. I hope to return to Prague very soon.

I must sign off now - I have a morning ballet class booked. I will keep you updated on my Parisian adventures very soon!

Until next week, remember to embrace your inner ballerina and don a little bit of pink in your life. A pink tutu may not solve all the world's problems, but it's certainly a fantastic way to start the day!

Sending all my love and sparkles!

Emma, the Pink Tutu Ballerina

P.S. I love finding treasures when I'm travelling! Today I bought the most fabulous, intricate pink tulle dress with a swirling floral pattern, which is already earmarked for the next ballet I attend. Don’t worry, darling, you’ll get a glimpse of it in my next blog post.

P.P.S. My love for tutus knows no bounds! There is just something so graceful and feminine about the way they move. Do you love tutus, darlings? What are your favourite types?
