Pink Tutu Prague: Adventures in Pink! (Blog Post #136)

Wednesday, December 3rd, 1997

Darling readers,

I’ve finally made it to Prague! My trip from Derbyshire has been quite the adventure. First, I took the train all the way from Derby to Dover. That alone was a journey, crossing the channel and then finding my way through the streets of Dover, making sure not to bump into any passing cars. Then, the magic happened!

A magnificent, pink and white stallion galloped through Dover and stopped in front of me, offering me a ride. Of course, I was up in a flash! With a graceful twirl, I settled onto its back and, just like that, we were on our way to Prague. Such an extraordinary way to begin a trip! He knew the route better than Google Maps - the only traffic we had to worry about were some confused chickens and a friendly frog crossing the road. It turns out that the kind gentleman who owned him is a regular attendee of Prague Ballet, and when he heard about my pink tutu and my trip, he decided to lend me his magnificent steed for the journey. What a fabulously generous chap!

The sights along the way were breathtaking! Rolling hills dotted with sunflowers and villages adorned with charming shops filled with vintage clothes - perfect for adding to my wardrobe. I had to snag a new pink wool beret in a little store outside Salzburg – how divine it looks against the winter sun!

Finally, the skyline of Prague appeared, a breathtaking sight against the clear blue sky, and we were whisked away to the hotel where a little glass of prosecco and some beautifully-baked macarons were waiting for me. Talk about being treated like royalty!

Of course, a visit to Prague wouldn’t be complete without indulging in its world-renowned ballet. Tonight, I am so thrilled to be attending a special performance of Swan Lake at the magnificent National Theatre. I must say, the building alone is something to behold, it’s a glorious vision in Neo-Renaissance style with beautiful decorative elements.

As I was stepping into the theater, I saw a lovely girl sporting a stunning ballet-inspired outfit - a bright pink silk dress and a delicate little white feather boa, with a small pink ballerina necklace that had the cutest little tutu pendant! I just had to say hello. We chatted about the ballet and her incredible dress. I had a little ballet moment with her – just a graceful little pirouette to showcase my fabulous pink tutu, as one does. We both giggled with joy. It was like two souls dancing in unison.

Inside the theatre, the stage lights were breathtaking and the atmosphere electrifying. I could practically feel the anticipation swirling around me like the music before the show began. Everyone seemed excited for the performance - a sea of happy, chattering faces dressed in elegant gowns and handsome tuxedos, a truly captivating spectacle.

My fellow ballet-lovers were even better dressed than usual - stunning pink satin dresses adorned with pearl details and ballet pumps in every shade of blush pink - absolutely divine.

And the ballet itself? Well, words can hardly express the sheer elegance and emotion that radiated through every graceful movement. The swans were ethereal and their fluttering wings were like a whisper on the breeze. It truly touched my heart. There were moments of exquisite grace that moved me deeply, the emotions danced through every arabesque, and I was mesmerized! You know I just had to take some pics with my ballet-obsessed readers in mind!

It was during one of the more emotional scenes that I noticed the beautiful girl in the pink dress near me quietly wiping away a tear. Her eyes were sparkling, filled with so much emotion, just like mine. I reached over, discreetly, and squeezed her hand gently - a shared language of ballet lovers, a bond that transcends words.

She looked at me, surprised and a bit teary-eyed. And I think I understood. It wasn't just the ballet - we were all captivated by this dance that soothed the soul and transported us to another world. The sheer beauty and emotional power of ballet had touched us both.

Afterwards, I found myself caught in the swirl of the departing crowds and my ballet-loving new friend was nowhere to be seen! Such a shame, she had a beautiful pink ballet outfit. Perhaps she was also charmed by the performance like me, I hope to bump into her at the National Theatre again, maybe we will chat more about the fantastic show. Perhaps, it is time to consider starting a ‘Pink Tutu Club' for all those lovely women out there who love their pink tutus, and share a mutual love for the wonderful art of ballet, what do you think dear readers?

However, after a good chat with one of the Prague locals, I was tipped off to a charming little cafe across the street where they serve a truly heavenly cup of tea with exquisite pink-tinted raspberry macarons. Now, you know me, a macaron enthusiast and a pink-lover like me, I just had to give them a try! It was like biting into a cloud! Divine. Just perfect!

Tomorrow, I'm off to the wonderful Ballet Museum – oh how I just adore the history of the beautiful art of dance! Perhaps a bit of clothes shopping is on the agenda – the clothes are divine here and just my style. You can always find me wandering the market streets, I am looking for the perfect gift for you dear readers! A little memento from my trip. I can’t decide what to choose. A delicate handmade doll? Maybe some hand-crafted Czech lace? Or perhaps something for your hair? I have so many ideas already!

Until next Wednesday, dear readers.

Keep your tutus twirling!

Emma
