Pink Tutu Prague: Ballet in the City of a Hundred Spires (Post #155)
Hello my darling tutu-lovers!
It’s Emma, back from the magical city of Prague, where cobbled streets and enchanting architecture collided with the captivating world of ballet! As you know, this week's Pink Tutu adventure takes us to the heart of Central Europe. A trip fuelled by a burning passion for all things pink, a penchant for tutus, and a healthy dose of ballet obsession, of course!
It’s Wednesday, which means a new post for www.pink-tutu.com! You've no doubt heard of my little venture, Pink Tutu, where I share my love for all things pink, tutus, ballet, fashion and travel with you every Wednesday. For me, a ballet performance is the perfect combination of art, grace, and a touch of magical whimsy. And Prague, a city with a history of enchanting ballet performances and beautiful architecture, has been a dream come true.
Now, if you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know I love nothing more than travelling by train – there’s just something magical about speeding across countryside landscapes, tucked away in a compartment, surrounded by charming landscapes and exciting possibilities. And let me tell you, the journey from Derbyshire, England, to Prague was no exception! With a vintage tea set nestled amongst my ballet shoes, and a travel book filled with inspiring ballerina quotes, I was set for a romantic and artistic adventure.
Prague: A City in a Pink Tutu
Prague itself is a symphony for the senses. It's like stepping into a fairytale – those magnificent pastel-hued buildings, cobblestone streets adorned with fragrant wisteria, and the vibrant buzz of a city with a history that whispers around every corner. But don't worry, I'm not losing myself in romance - it's my ballet obsession that's keeping my heart racing. I've got my sights set on a breathtaking performance at the historic National Theatre.
15th April, 1998 - A Ballet Rendezvous
My dear readers, today marks the date for an unforgettable ballet spectacle – “Giselle” by the renowned National Theatre ballet company. And you bet I was there! Dressed in my favourite pink tutu, of course, I practically floated into the majestic building – I think I may have even had a ballerina twirl on my way into the theatre! I was thrilled by the opulent interior, the grand auditorium, and the shimmering chandeliers. It truly felt like a night in a magical world of ballet dreams.
“Giselle”: A Love Story, A Legacy, and A Touch of Tragedy
"Giselle" tells the classic tale of a peasant girl, whose love and heartbreak leads her into the arms of the supernatural. This masterpiece was a sensory explosion - the graceful dance steps, the stunning costumes, and the captivating story that held my gaze and stole my heart. And of course, my ballet history brain went into overdrive as I realised this classic piece was penned by none other than the genius Adolphe Adam! It felt like a dream, the whole experience - a reminder of the power and timeless beauty of the ballet world.
The Elegance of a Bygone Era
After the performance, I wandered the streets of Prague, reveling in the captivating aura of this city. The air was filled with the lingering melodies of the evening's ballet. And if you're wondering, my ballerina appetite was far from satisfied! A visit to Prague's Old Town Square with its historic Astronomical Clock (another historical landmark steeped in symbolism – much like a ballet, I thought!), and a decadent dinner with a view of the famous Charles Bridge later, I had already begun to dream of my next ballet escapade.
Tutus and Fashion in the City of Romance
Now, any good blog post has to delve into fashion, doesn't it? And I've got to tell you, the streets of Prague are bursting with unique boutiques, and every shop seemed to call to me – “buy a pink tutu, Emma!” My senses were overflowing with all sorts of stylish delights. The vintage boutiques, crammed with lace-trimmed gloves and floral-printed fabrics, provided a delightful trip back to a bygone era – the kind of era that tutu-obsessed fashionistas like myself find irresistible!
I found the perfect embroidered blouse – the sort you imagine princesses in fairytale land wearing – for an upcoming charity ball performance where I’ll be twirling in a pink tulle masterpiece! It’s just as glamorous and elegant as you can imagine! For the city of Prague, I'm just adding another entry to my ballet performance diary – and perhaps a tutu or two (or five!) for my wardrobe – all inspired by a city that’s just as stylish and enchanting as its ballet history.
The Pink Tutu Diaries: Spreading the Joy
Until next week my darling ballet and pink tutu-loving friends! Keep those tutus twirling, and join me for another blog post full of ballet, pink and wanderlust adventures! I’ve already got my eyes on Vienna! Until then, you can always find me twirling in a pink tutu – on the streets, in a ballet class, and of course, always looking for that next grand ballet performance!
