Pink Tutu Prague: Post #206 – Ballet and Bliss in the City of a Hundred Spires

Hello my darlings! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu-clad ballerina, and I’m writing to you today from the breathtaking city of Prague! Can you believe it, I’m actually in Prague! I've dreamt of this for years, ever since I was a little girl reading fairytales and picturing the spires of Prague Castle jutting out against the skyline like magical sentinels. And now, here I am, living the dream, tutu in tow of course!

As you know, this week’s post is all about Prague! This city is such a feast for the senses – from the stunning architecture to the vibrant street art, to the tantalising aroma of freshly baked pastries wafting from every cafe, and the enchanting sound of classical music echoing from the historic squares, my senses are overwhelmed in the best way possible!

Today’s blog post marks my seventh day here, and oh, has it been magical!

Ballet by the River:

The first order of business for any ballerina arriving in a new city? A spot of ballet, obviously! So I started my journey on Wednesday with a beautiful evening performance by the National Theatre Ballet, a company that embodies the spirit of Prague. They performed "The Sleeping Beauty," and let me tell you, the sheer beauty of the theatre was a masterpiece in itself. The plush red velvet seats, the glittering chandeliers casting an ethereal glow over the entire hall, it was just pure enchantment.

This city has such a deep-rooted love for ballet and a vibrant cultural scene, it’s quite exhilarating. You wouldn’t believe the sheer volume of street performances happening throughout the day. One minute you might find yourself captivated by a classical quartet serenading passers-by near the Charles Bridge, and the next you could be awestruck by a group of talented street dancers, effortlessly blending street art with their movements, right in the heart of the Old Town Square. I, of course, had my own pink tutu-inspired impromptu performances – one near the Lennon Wall, with a lovely group of schoolchildren joining me for a joyous "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" routine – you could say they were my little ballet bunnies, and my pink tutu made a fantastic visual spectacle against the peace-themed graffiti. I might have had a few curious glances from passing tourists, but honestly, everyone was charmed by the display.

A Shopaholic's Paradise:

The next day, of course, it was time for shopping! Prague is truly a shopper's paradise – it's like stepping into a vintage fairytale, where cobbled streets are lined with beautiful boutiques selling everything from exquisite antique dolls and fairytale-esque hand-painted ceramics, to trendy bohemian clothing and, most importantly for this tutu-clad traveller – gorgeous fabrics for my future creations! I just love exploring the hidden alleys and independent shops – they're a world away from the chain stores you find in the usual tourist haunts.

Pony Express:

I must say, Prague was even more enchanting than I could have ever imagined, with its pastel-coloured houses, quirky bridges, and hidden courtyards. One particularly magical moment was during a horseback ride through the city. Can you imagine it? The wind in my hair, my pink tutu fluttering in the breeze, trotting through the heart of Prague on a gentle pony – pure magic! I felt like I'd stepped out of a fairytale! The horses were gorgeous too, with shiny coats that shimmered in the afternoon sunlight – very princessy. Of course, no one should wear pink tutus on a horse, you want to feel the wind so a dress that's more flowy would be perfect, however my pink tutu did have an important role to play – in photos, the shots of me riding the horse, and in my Instagram stories. I know it will be popular because I have a large audience on Instagram – most of my followers want to hear about the fashion choices in each new city I travel to.

A Culinary Adventure:

This evening, we indulged in a sumptuous dinner at the most adorable restaurant. It had a pink theme - honestly, they could not have catered to my pink aesthetic more – it had pink tables and pink fairy lights, with beautiful paintings on the wall and I saw another pink tutu too – but a more vintage style, much older than mine and probably not as pink, though my heart almost burst out of my chest with excitement – I felt like I’d found a kindred spirit! But then I remembered my mission in life - to convert the whole world to the wonders of pink tutus. They seemed lovely so I wasn’t going to say anything, it’s okay if we all have our own pink journeys to take in this life.

This dinner experience is also worth a mention. It was so decadent. I felt like I’d been transported to a Parisian palace. We indulged in beautifully plated dishes, each one a culinary masterpiece, with fresh seasonal ingredients and delectable flavours – they definitely had my taste buds doing a happy dance! Prague definitely knows how to treat a ballerina!

My Week of Pink Tutu Perfection:

The highlight of my week has to be a truly inspiring evening I spent watching the National Ballet of the Czech Republic perform "Giselle". They brought to life this classic ballet in a way that made my heart skip a beat. The grace and strength of the dancers, the breathtaking choreography, and the beauty of the music, it all left me absolutely breathless. I had such a special feeling seeing this timeless story unfold on stage. It felt as though the very spirit of Prague, of love, tradition, and storytelling, was embodied within the dancers and the music.

I really do encourage everyone to watch Giselle – the ballet, the music, the costume design - everything just took me away on a journey, and not just a simple ballet journey, an elegant romantic, fairytale, pink tutu dream-like journey – oh gosh, I am going to have to have this as a topic for next week’s blog post – Pink Tutu and the Journey of Giselle. I hope you enjoy my blogs and photos! I've been having a fantastic time sharing it with you and this city has completely captured my heart! It's a vibrant, enchanting city that’s a testament to the enduring magic of artistry, heritage, and of course – the power of pink tutus! I feel that this might be my new favourite place, so perhaps it might be a recurring feature in the future. Now, off to search out my perfect pastel pink dress – gotta keep that pink vibe going, right?

Stay tuned for next Wednesday’s post – Pink Tutu and the Journey of Giselle. Love and happy dancing,

Emma xo
