Prague Dreams: Tutu Tales & Twisted Tulle - Blog Post #233

Hello darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed adventurer, back from the enchanting city of Prague! This week's blog is a love letter to a city bursting with history, culture, and, of course, a touch of tulle magic. Let's get started!

The Pink Pony Express: Arriving in Prague

Last Wednesday, I bid farewell to Derbyshire (and the rolling green hills) and boarded a sleek, silver train for my latest adventure. You know how much I adore train travel. Something about the gentle clickety-clack of wheels and the views whizzing past my window fills me with such joie de vivre. A glass of sparkling elderflower, a good book (Jane Austen, of course!), and a fluffy pink blanket were the perfect companions for this journey.

Prague welcomed me with open arms and, even more excitingly, the unmistakable scent of roasted chestnuts and cinnamon pastries. After checking into my little boutique hotel in the Old Town square - all warm wood and antique furniture - I embarked on a quest to find the most beautiful pink tutu Prague had to offer! And oh my dear readers, I was not disappointed.

Tutu Tango: Discovering Prague's Hidden Gems

You wouldn't believe the number of charming boutiques and ateliers nestled amongst Prague's winding cobbled streets. After a delicious lunch at a traditional cafe (apple strudel and hot chocolate - pure perfection!) I discovered a treasure trove of handmade tulle and exquisite fabrics in a shop called "Vlákna Snu" (Dream Threads!). The owner, a sweet woman with twinkling eyes, helped me choose the most beautiful tulle in shades of blush pink and dusty rose - perfect for a Parisian-inspired tutu I'm dreaming of making!

Ballet Balle-mania: The Magic of Prague's Theatres

My mission in Prague wasn't just about tulle and sequins though - no, I came to experience the city's rich cultural heritage. My first stop was the majestic National Theatre, an opulent structure built in the heart of the city. Just imagine, darlings, being seated in velvet-cushioned seats, the air buzzing with anticipation, the lights dimming as the curtain rises on a ballet spectacle!

And oh my, what a spectacle it was! On October 13th, 1999 (yes, this was the night!), the Prague National Ballet was presenting "Swan Lake", the most breathtaking rendition of Tchaikovsky's classic I have ever seen. From the soaring choreography to the exquisitely-dressed swans, every single detail was captivating. I swear, I could have stayed there for days, entranced by the elegance of the ballerinas and the emotive power of the performance.

A Day In The Life Of A Pink Tutu-Wearing Tourist

As with all my travels, a big part of my adventure in Prague was experiencing the local culture, fashion, and of course, exploring its history. Wandering through the enchanting cobblestone squares, gazing at the impressive Prague Castle, taking a ride on the iconic "tram" through the streets, all of it was a delightful escape into a fairytale world.

One day, I even found a local ballet studio - the “Ballet Slezska - that invited me to join their class! Even if it was just for one evening, it was amazing to feel the connection with my ballet roots. Learning new combinations and improving my pirouettes amongst new friends – that’s what dreams are made of!

Prague, Adieu:

Saying goodbye to this fairytale city was hard. I took home a suitcase full of memories, a head full of stories, and, of course, the perfect amount of tulle for my Parisian-inspired tutu! The pink pony will be returning to Derbyshire soon, but my memories of Prague and its captivating spirit will stay with me forever. Until next time, dear readers, keep twirling!

Don't Forget:

  • Check out the Prague National Theatre for ballet performances – you’ll be mesmerized.
  • Discover Vlákna Snu for your own tulle treasure.
  • Indulge in the local cuisine – apple strudel and roasted chestnuts are a must-try.
  • Look out for Prague’s famous trams and snap some photos for your Instagram.
  • Visit the majestic Prague Castle – the views are unforgettable.
  • And most importantly, remember to embrace your inner ballerina wherever you go!

Stay tuned for next week’s blog as I reveal all about the Parisian tutu I'm creating with my newly acquired tulle treasures!

Until then, may your days be filled with pink tutus and sparkling smiles.

Love,

Emma xxx
