Prague, My Lovelies! (Blog Post #372)

Hello, darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a brand new blog post from yours truly, Emma, straight from the magical city of Prague! I'm just back from a whirlwind ballet tour through Central Europe, and Prague has simply stolen my heart. It’s everything I could have dreamt of – cobbled streets, enchanting bridges, and a real buzz of artistic energy!

This week's blog post is all about Prague, ballet and beautiful tutus, of course! Because let's face it, what better way to explore a new city than in a fabulous pink tutu? It's not just about the twirls, you know, although the twirling is undeniably divine! It's about embracing life with a sprinkle of magic, a touch of elegance, and a whole lot of whimsy. And honestly, what better place to do it than in Prague, a city that truly breathes romance?

I arrived in Prague yesterday by train – yes, you guessed it! It was a most charming ride, reminiscent of a fairytale. The countryside flew by, dappled with green meadows and dotted with quaint villages, and the train journey gave me time to dream of all the fabulous adventures awaiting me in Prague. I do love train travel, don’t you? You get the chance to look out of the window at all the scenery passing by – and people are usually very happy on trains! I don’t know about you, but I have some very interesting encounters with people while on train journeys, it’s as though people are in a more relaxed and receptive mood while on train travel! I met a lovely couple on the journey over from Germany - they’re going to Prague for their wedding, they wanted a more authentic experience than a typical wedding in Germany - Prague just had the ‘je ne sais quoi’ that was exactly what they were looking for – isn’t that utterly romantic! They weren’t actually planning to dress as a ballerina and a ballerina dancer in the wedding though – the Bride said, rather wistfully, it would be rather difficult, “she just wasn’t as strong as she’d like” – Oh, it made me laugh! She just couldn’t resist a little tutufied fun!

Where To Start

Where to even begin when exploring such a captivating city? Well, I always begin with a delicious cup of tea, naturally! My hotel, the gorgeous Hotel Grand Majestic Plaza, boasts a little tea salon on the top floor, overlooking the city. As I sipped my tea and nibbled on some delicate macaroons, I plotted my Prague adventure. My first order of business – ballet!

Prague is a haven for the performing arts and, thankfully, for those who adore ballet, the city has several exquisite theatres, such as the State Opera, the National Theatre, the Prague Dance Festival and the National Theatre Opera House where, guess what? It’s the home of ballet performances!

Pink Tutus Everywhere!!

Now, on 12th June, 2002, Prague is showcasing Pink Tutus Everywhere, an incredible ballet spectacle set up by my best friend Fiona and her creative agency. It was inspired by my very own Pink Tutu Foundation that I founded several years ago - our aim to get everybody wearing pink tutus! This event is attracting an eclectic range of ballet dancers – from classically-trained ballet dancers to professional ballerinas! Fiona knows all the top ballerina dancers in Europe. There’s something very magical about getting all of us to get together! It makes me feel warm and fuzzy! We are bringing ballet to all levels, including amateur ballet dancers! Isn’t that a great idea!

I love meeting dancers, learning their stories, understanding their aspirations. I had the most amazing chat yesterday with Elena! You wouldn’t believe her journey. She grew up in the countryside outside Prague, in a small village with no access to ballet, she’s been teaching ballet in her home for many years. Her students are getting together to perform with her today – the whole thing is going to be a surprise performance at Pink Tutus Everywhere!! I don’t know about you, but that gets me so excited I could burst with excitement – she is just incredible – isn’t it heartwarming!

It's absolutely inspiring to watch dancers, especially women dancers. Their strength, grace, dedication… it's simply remarkable. It’s such a rewarding and fulfilling career, despite the immense amounts of hard work that go into it! You have to be incredibly passionate. I’ve been learning ballet since I was about four or five, when my grandmother bought me the most wonderful ballet dress - the fabric was a deep, vibrant pink, of course! You just have to get into that ‘pink tutu state of mind’ - it really does make you feel fantastic - especially in front of an audience.

Twirling through Prague!

We have arranged a wonderful tour for this morning - with a pink tutus twist, of course. First, we’re going on a fabulous Pink Tutu Tour of the City - there are going to be all the lovely things about this glorious city, including all of the highlights of course - the Astronomical Clock, the Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, the Jewish Quarter, and the stunning Prague Castle, along with other breathtaking locations! All in our lovely Pink Tutus, of course. We’ll have plenty of photo opportunities along the way, we want to be seen all across the city – and who knows, we might even see ourselves on social media this week. I do have to tell you - the tour company, ‘Prague with a Twirl’, were an absolute delight!

This afternoon, we're indulging in a bit of shopping – there are just so many tempting stores! You've got the most luxurious boutiques along with the vintage treasure troves and designer shops - Prague has something for everyone and every purse!

Fabulous Fashion

When in Prague, it’s all about style, my dear. Now, Prague is definitely an exciting city to buy your ballet-themed wardrobe in. The shops in the Jewish Quarter are perfect - filled with the most quirky and vintage fashion pieces that are very reasonably priced.

I was looking for a brand new, stunning, blush pink, ballet tutu with matching blush pink velvet top and leggings - it is a must-have for your wardrobe this season and you know I can’t resist! I think I will pair this outfit with some delicate jewellery and classic stilettos for my grand evening ballet performance. I have been lucky enough to get invited to perform a solo performance in Prague. Oh, to be surrounded by an audience watching me twirl in my beautiful pink tutu is always quite exhilarating.

I simply cannot resist the shops! And after my visit this week, my suitcase has filled with the most incredible vintage silk pink scarves, velvet and lace items and of course, a plethora of pretty new pink ballet shoes and tutus – can’t wait to show you all my finds! I even bought the most lovely blush pink sequined dress - for only a few euros! That’s about £1 in good old Derbyshire! Isn’t it unbelievable! Oh, I have the best bargain deals – and Prague has some fantastic boutiques and street vendors selling fabulous clothing - I just adore buying new clothes and fashion finds!

The Dance Studio!

We were having such a fun time walking through the city, that I had a wonderful idea - we had all of the excitement of Pink Tutus Everywhere coming up, and then it just hit me, let’s go for a rehearsal! Well, of course, we did a lovely twirl at Old Town Square - that was wonderful! All of us twirling in unison in our pretty pink tutus – now that really made people stop and stare - it was the best idea! They gave us all a ‘Bravo!’ It made me laugh, we loved the look on the faces of the onlookers - they were smiling so much - what a fabulous time to have! We are having a ball. It’s going to be one fabulous evening.

Later on this evening, I have my ballet class booked – right in the centre of Prague! A beautiful converted townhouse, right in the middle of Prague. My lovely friend from Prague , who also has her own Pink Tutu brand, is teaching – we both love getting into our own pink tutus - we love spreading ballet love all over the world – it makes me very happy indeed, I have such a special connection with her – just another one of those fabulous things I have to be grateful for – I wouldn’t change it for the world, not a single bit. If I could bottle this magic, I would sell it for a gazillion pounds.

I can’t wait to twirl across the stage in Prague. We’re hoping it's going to be an amazing ballet night. I'm excited to watch all my fellow ballerina dancers perform and twirl. This will definitely be a showstopping night that I’ll be talking about for months to come – a memory I’ll keep tucked away safely for when those “not so good days” happen!

After a long day twirling, shopping and eating my weight in traditional Czech food, there's nothing more magical than returning to my beautiful room, kicking back, and savoring the city’s vibrant nighttime energy. From my hotel window, I can see all the twinkling lights across the cityscape and Prague Castle bathed in a golden glow – and let me tell you - it makes me feel completely giddy, and of course, I put on my very favourite, sparkly pink tutu to make it even better - of course!!

And that’s about it, from Prague my lovelies! Well, there’s still loads more to talk about but I do have a rehearsal in a couple of hours.
