Prague Pretty, Post #396: Tutu-ing Around the City of a Hundred Spires

Bonjour, darling tutu enthusiasts! It’s Emma, your Pink Tutu Queen, reporting live from the magical city of Prague! As always, I'm channeling my inner ballerina with a twirl in every step. This week, my whimsical adventure is taking me on a cultural tour of the Czech Republic, the land of beer, castles, and...wait for it…tutus! Yes, I said it! Prague’s been whispering sweet nothings to my tutu-loving soul, and I just know I'm going to sprinkle some fairy dust on this enchanting city.

This week's Pink Tutu Prague post comes to you straight from the bustling streets, my very own pink tutu whipping up a mini tornado as I skip from historical landmark to stylish boutique. (Did I mention Prague is a haven for all things pink?) Oh, the excitement! Just a little reminder, my lovelies, you can find all my Prague chronicles each Wednesday on www.pink-tutu.com! This week's edition is especially juicy, and trust me, you're going to want to hop on board this tutu-tastic journey with me!

Pink-Perfect Prague Preparations: Travel in Style

Let’s be honest, travelling is a bit like preparing for a ballet performance - meticulous planning and stylish execution! My wardrobe was strategically packed with a rainbow of tutus for every occasion, naturally. But for this trip, I added a splash of vintage charm with a few lace pieces, delicate silk scarves, and my trusty vintage-style leather handbag.

And what about transportation, you ask? Well, dear readers, my travels started with a romantic journey on a classic red double-decker bus, chugging through the English countryside towards London’s Euston Station. That was a fitting start, a vintage touch that whispered tales of classic ballerina-era travelling. But the pièce de résistance was definitely the overnight sleeper train from Paris to Prague. My private sleeper carriage had enough space for my full collection of tulle, complete with my adorable little travel companion, "Ballet" the miniature pony. That’s right! My new (very tiny) pony travelled with me! It’s all about travelling with grace and a sprinkle of ballerina magic.

Czech Out These Tutu-rific Treasures

And then, voilà! I was in Prague, surrounded by gothic architecture, charming bridges, and an almost mystical vibe. But there was a tiny detail that got me excited… The very second I arrived at my little boutique hotel nestled in the Old Town Square, a friendly concierge handed me a little pink envelope. The envelope, filled with delicate pink parchment, announced the most exciting ballet performance - "Sleeping Beauty" at the Prague State Opera House on November 27th! This was divine inspiration – a performance in Prague! I just had to discover more about this wonderful city, explore it's ballet scene and delve into Prague's history.

The following day, my feet led me to the charming Old Town Square. I discovered the famous Astronomical Clock with its intricate details and charming figurines. It's like a ballet in motion! (Think of it: clockwork gears in constant motion! Ballerina-esque.) A twirling statue is no match for a twirling ballerina. And then there’s Charles Bridge, a magical spot for admiring the river Vltava and basking in the sunshine. The city just oozed beauty and culture, just waiting for a ballerina like me to come and bring it to life.

My tutu was ready! It was a swirling cloud of peachy pink, fluffy and frothy and absolutely perfect for this historic setting. As I strutted through the charming streets, my mind wandered, and I started to dream.

Prague: Where Tutu History Meets Fashion History

Do you know, my dears, the story of ballet tutus? They’re fascinating! The very first tutus weren’t these billowing clouds of tulle like I wear. Originally they were little more than a loose, ankle-length skirt - simple, but pretty. Think of the elegance of Marie Antoinette - tutus then were like that. But the history is more colourful than even my tutu collection! Later came those lovely full skirts and panniers that were so beautiful in the early ballet performances. The romantic era demanded full, flowing tutus, almost like giant blooms of beautiful fabric, ready for a grand performance. They weren’t always pink, you know. There were shades of pearl-grey, peach and white - oh, but the elegance!

As I admired the ornate decorations of the Old Town Square, I was fascinated by the parallels between ballet tutus and Prague's historical fashions. There's a beauty and grace to both that I simply adore. The tutus I wear are more modern, bold in pink and expressing my own love for the graceful beauty of ballet. It's about more than just a skirt. It's about feeling confident and twirling with joy!

Pink-tastic Prague Shopping Spree: A Tutu-ful Discovery

Of course, I wouldn’t be a true Pink Tutu Queen without embracing Prague’s incredible fashion scene. And my journey took me to one of Prague's gem-studded stores - "Svadobni Salon Kvetna."

Stepping inside, it was like being in a secret garden where tulle dreams were woven together. There were beautiful dresses of creamy whites, ivory lace, and a smattering of softest-pink tulle you’d ever seen. They were gowns for a queen, for sure.

But something just felt off, a bit too serious. So I ventured to the vintage shops near the Old Town Square and that’s when it hit me… Prague is filled with a beautiful mix of old-world charm and modern chic. The vintage shops were filled with quirky treasure troves, filled with exquisite fabric, exquisite lace and buttons with pearls and gemstones - and oh, the vintage furs! I wanted to grab it all! Each shop was like a time capsule full of treasures just waiting to be rediscovered!

Imagine: I am a dancer with a penchant for tutus, discovering stunning fabrics. My head swam! I had to buy something! And what did I choose? A tiny lace blouse and a matching lace skirt, delicate and vintage style. The skirt - soft pale peach, perfectly matching my favorite tutu and perfect to go with the stunning vintage silk shawl I'd discovered that same morning in a secret little corner shop, all while sipping Czech espresso and gazing at the gorgeous stained glass of the St. Nicholas Church just around the corner.

My Tutu Inspiration for the Day: My delicate blush pink tutu paired with the peachy vintage lace skirt and a delicate, ivory vintage lace blouse. A touch of elegance and a dash of fairytale romance.

The Magic of Prague

The magic of Prague is more than its history and enchanting architecture - it's a vibe. It’s about discovering your inner tutu fairy and letting your imagination fly, my dears. Just walking along the Charles Bridge, with its fairy tale towers and artists hawking their crafts, is enough to spark your creativity! It’s as if each cobblestone holds a hidden fairy tale. I even found an intriguing street artist painting a whimsical fairytale about a tutu-clad ballerina in a Prague park! How cool is that?!

As the sun dips lower over the majestic Prague Castle in the late afternoon, the cityscape twinkles to life. The colours of the sunset bathe everything in a warm glow. As the moon shines, the night lights flicker and twinkle. Even my tutu is glowing, it’s absolutely beautiful, and it reminds me why Prague is a magical place.

Tonight's Tutu-tastic Ballet Dream

Now, darling tutu-lovers, this week is all about that performance I told you about, at the Prague State Opera House tonight! I am dressed for the occasion! The perfect pink, of course! With the softest peach tulle cascading all around me, a sparkling crown, and perfectly-matched pink shoes, I feel a sense of wonder and enchantment just walking into the grand foyer. It’s magical! I'm here to see Tchaikovsky's “Sleeping Beauty” performed by the incredible Czech ballet company. I have no doubt that this show is going to be something spectacular! I can't wait to witness the artistry and elegance!

Prague, I Love You!

My little ballerina heart has been enchanted! The energy of this city, its hidden treasures, the beautiful architecture and all of the dreamy locations make Prague an absolutely enchanting destination for any true ballerina at heart. It's also made me fall in love with the Czech Republic even more. It's got so much more to offer than its legendary beer! This city has got fashion, it's got charm, and most importantly, it’s got history - both the kind you see in the streets and the history you feel in the cobblestones and in the spirit of this magical city.
