Prague Pretty: A Pink Tutu Adventure - Post #603

Wednesday, 15th November 2006

Hello my lovelies! It's Emma here, writing to you live from Prague, a city bursting with beauty, history, and yes, even a touch of pink! My goodness, what a journey it's been! And before I even get into the magnificent ballet that's gracing this glorious city, let's talk trains and ponies, shall we?

Now, you might be thinking, "Emma, why a pony?!" Well, let's just say getting here to Prague wasn't as glamorous as a whirl across the stage in my favourite pink tutu. You see, a rather long and, shall we say, unexpected train journey brought me right into the heart of Bohemia! It was actually a delightful detour! The fields of sunflowers were breathtaking, and I even got to meet a darling pony called Princess (of course!), who allowed me to ride him across a field of bright yellow blooms!

Princess might be my newest furry friend, but my ultimate love for ballet kept me moving onward. I am so very fortunate that the amazing National Theatre of Prague is hosting *"The Nutcracker" * tonight, and let me tell you, this production is worth all the sunflower fields and pony rides combined!

Pink Tutu Delights: Finding My Sparkle in Prague

One of the joys of being a pink tutu enthusiast (and a budding fashionista, if I might add!) is exploring new cities. Every place holds a secret trove of vintage boutiques, antique shops, and fabric emporiums waiting to be discovered. Prague hasn't disappointed!

My top three discoveries so far:

  1. *A truly fabulous antique store stuffed to the brim with vintage fabrics. * My pink tutu collection will be positively bursting with new delights after a trip to this gem!
  2. * A bohemian (of course!) market with stalls brimming with hand-stitched embroideries, handmade pottery, and vintage jewellery. * It's a haven for the artistic and creative, just like myself!
  3. * The sweetest little confectionery shop, it reminded me of stepping into a storybook! * A must-try is their chocolate hazelnut swirl cake, a truly delightful delight for any discerning palate!

The thing about Prague, my dears, is that the cobbled streets themselves feel like they're stepping right out of a fairytale! Every building tells a story, every archway promises an adventure, and the little corners of the city hold a kind of magic that only truly passionate travelers like us can truly appreciate.

The History in my Tutu Steps:

Now, I know you all are wondering what I’ve been doing with all these vintage finds!

You’re probably expecting me to unveil my new tutu, right? Well, my darlings, Prague has been so very inspiring! You wouldn’t believe the gorgeous vintage costumes I've found in those little shops! As you all know, a pink tutu has an enchanting history, and this city truly brings the story to life! So, I'm going to use this historical knowledge to tell you the "tale" of a real-life pink tutu!

Did you know that the pink tutu wasn't always the symbol of whimsical femininity and delicate elegance? Well, it certainly was, in the Victorian era, when a touch of pink, soft as the petals of a rose, symbolized love and innocence! But you won’t be surprised to hear that, even then, its history is fascinating and even quite funny!

The **Victorian-era pink tutu was mostly the stuff of romantic ballet fantasies, rather than a real stage staple. You see, a certain Sir Augustus "Augie" Harris, the very much "in-fashion" manager of a leading London Theatre, took to adorning a certain stage star with pink tutus. In fact, "Pink Tutus for Everyone" became quite the theatrical slogan of the era. The press and critics, and even the royal court, were captivated!

Sadly, Augie wasn't an innovator of dance and his "Pink Tutu Movement," although spectacular and charming, sadly lost its steam once ballet companies around the globe embraced modern aesthetics, which generally weren’t as fond of such dramatic colours.

This Evening's Show:

So, you may be wondering why I am bringing you into my “Pink Tutu Journey" now, so deep in my travels. Well, Prague is a perfect stage, a real-life ballet in the story of its architecture, art, history, and of course, the magnificent, iconic ballet itself, *"The Nutcracker". * This is not just about seeing a ballet show – It's about being transported to another world, another time.

"The Nutcracker" tells the timeless tale of a young girl's magical journey through a whimsical land filled with dancing toys, snowflakes, and a formidable nutcracker prince! With its gorgeous music and delightful choreography, I have absolutely no doubt that my evening will be as spectacular and vibrant as this enchanting city!

Now, my sweet friends, let's not forget that we are on the journey to Pink Tutu Paradise! And while we can't have an official "Pink Tutu Party" in this magical city just yet, we'll just have to make our own pink-tutu magic happen. So, gather all your favourite shades of pink and be ready for a truly dazzling adventure with me in Prague!

See you next week, for Post #604! Don't forget to keep an eye out on our Facebook page for a live post tonight on what to expect at "The Nutcracker"!

With pink and twirling love, Emma

P.S. And of course, my beloved pink tutu wouldn't be complete without some truly sparkling additions. Have you seen the beautiful Czech crystal and glass? I just HAD to have a necklace – more about this soon!
