Prague Calling! #617 – A Pink Tutu Pilgrimage 🩰🌸

Hello darlings! It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means! Time for another dose of Pink Tutu fashion, travel, and, of course, ballet!

This week I’m whisked away to the enchanting city of Prague, a true haven for lovers of culture and beauty. Just as the air is crisp with the promise of a Bohemian winter, I'm swirling into a world of stunning architecture, delicious pastry, and, yes, the breathtaking spectacle of ballet.

My arrival by train, a whimsical carriage pulled by an ethereal, galloping pony (don't judge my inner world, darlings!), set the scene perfectly for this enchanting adventure. The journey from Derbyshire felt like a fairy-tale journey. My fellow passengers all seemed so entranced by the passing scenery. Of course, my pink tutu caught everyone's eye, even in this quaint European town. The charming conductor, bless his heart, couldn't resist a twinkle in his eye as I stepped off the train with a swirl and a twirl, the station doors mirroring the romantic city beyond.

Prague: Where Ballet Meets Romance

Stepping into the very heart of the Old Town, I could barely contain my excitement. The cobbled streets are alive with storybook charm and every corner promises a delightful surprise. The Charles Bridge, its iconic towers reflecting the beauty of the city in the Vltava River, is where I fell in love with the bohemian spirit of Prague, a city as delicate as a ballet dancer's grace.

And what would a ballet-loving heart want more than a charming café filled with the scents of fresh coffee and decadent pastries? It was love at first sip and bite. I savored a delectable káva (coffee) and a delectable slice of srdíčko (heart-shaped pastry, naturally!) , all while sketching the whimsical scene around me. This moment felt as magical as a ballet finale.

Prague's Ballet Heritage: A True Symphony of Movement

But let's not get ahead of ourselves, darlings! I wouldn’t be a true Pink Tutu devotee if I didn’t indulge in my ballet passion in this magnificent city. Today’s date, February 21st, holds a very special place in Prague’s ballet history. It was on this very day in 1958 that the National Theatre, a true architectural gem and the pinnacle of Czech cultural life, re-opened its doors to the public after a devastating fire.

This theatre is more than just a building, darlings. It's a testament to Czech artistry and determination. And you can imagine my delight in knowing that its glorious stage is a haven for breathtaking ballet performances. And wouldn’t you know it, the magnificent ballet ‘Don Quixote’ by Leonid Lavrovsky was the chosen production for that auspicious reopening. Now that’s a truly legendary moment in Czech ballet history!

I couldn't resist a peek behind the scenes (thank goodness for friendly doormen!), where I caught glimpses of dancers practicing. Such a passion! I swear I could hear the whispers of the great ballerinas who had graced the stage before. Their footsteps felt woven into the very fabric of this magnificent theatre.

Prague's Ballet Present: A Flourishing Scene

But it’s not just the National Theatre that captures Prague's love affair with ballet. The Prague National Theatre, known as Stavovské divadlo, is another gem in the city’s crown. It’s housed in a breathtaking Baroque theatre built in 1783. Can you believe it?

This theatre is famed for its beautiful décor, its history, and, of course, its phenomenal performances! And my heart skipped a beat to know it’s one of the oldest still-operational theatres in Prague. Just as it played host to legendary ballets throughout its history, I couldn’t wait to experience this magical place. And how do you get to experience ballet's magic? A truly unique way: by carriage ride! My heart was aflutter, my tutu swirled with joy. This was a Prague fairytale coming to life!

Dress Up & Dazzle, darlings! A Day of Chic in Prague

As much as I love a grand performance, my darlings know I'm not about just fancy ballets and fairy-tale dreams! No, my journey would be incomplete without a bit of shopping spree! And there's no better place for a fashion-obsessed soul like myself than the streets of Prague.

The Pařížská street was calling! Its historic architecture provides a stunning backdrop for the boutiques of high fashion that line the cobbled lanes. My purse trembled with excitement, as I walked the pavements admiring the vibrant boutiques with a heart that could only be calmed with a perfect purchase!

I’ll admit I succumbed to a charming, hand-stitched pink shawl. Its intricate design reminds me of the beautiful choreography of a grand pas de deux. And, of course, the shade of pink perfectly matched my signature tutu! You wouldn’t catch me shopping without a twirl. A dance around a magnificent street like Pařížská just calls for a ballet-worthy moment!

A Day of Wonder and Pastel Perfection

My heart swells with delight as the day unfolds. Prague, with its charming alleys, its romantic cafés, and its timeless beauty, is as elegant and delightful as a ballet performed by graceful dancers.

As I sip my afternoon svařené víno (hot spiced wine) while admiring the dancing flames in my fireplace, my mind is ablaze with the beauty and romance of this enchanting city. I find it difficult to distinguish between the city and my ballet-filled dreams.

Don't forget, darlings, you can join me on this pink tutu pilgrimage by following me at www.pink-tutu.com where I share my love for fashion, travel, and all things ballet every Wednesday!

Now, let's twirl on! Until next week! ✨🩰
