Prague Diaries: Pink Tutu Adventures in the City of a Hundred Spires! (Post #622)
Wednesday, 28th March, 2007
Dearest fellow tutu enthusiasts,
I'm writing this to you from a quaint café in Prague, surrounded by the intoxicating scent of coffee and pastries, with the melodic strains of a street musician drifting in through the open window. The sunshine is dappling through the trees in the square outside, painting the cobblestone streets in a patchwork of light and shade. Truly, Prague is a magical city, steeped in history, brimming with charm, and oh-so-Instagrammable!
As you know, my mission in life is to spread the joy of tutus, and inspire everyone to embrace the pink tulle! And what better place to begin my sartorial revolution than in the heart of Europe? After all, Prague has a fascinating connection to the world of dance! From the legendary Czech ballerina Anna Pavlova who graced its stages a century ago, to the current thriving ballet scene at the National Theatre, Prague is a haven for dance lovers.
I arrived last week, journeying by train through the rolling hills of the Czech Republic, with a stylish pink luggage set I snagged on a sale at Liberty of London, of course! The journey was quite delightful. I struck up a conversation with a lovely young lady who was heading to Vienna to see a production of Swan Lake at the Opera House. Turns out, she’s a ballet dancer too! We discussed our favourite tutus, with a particular fondness for the fluffy, multi-layered Victorian style. My current favourite? It's my pink ombré tutu, the colour gradient swirls around my legs like a delicate dream!
Now, my little lovelies, you'll be surprised to know Prague has a hidden connection to ballet even beyond its enchanting theatres! This morning, I embarked on a pony ride through the charming Letna Park, nestled alongside the River Vltava. As we ambled along, our little steed's hooves echoed upon the soft grassy path, our little escapade seemed to belong in a fairytale! And the pony, well, he was adorned in a delightful pink ribbon! Talk about serendipity, don't you think?
This evening, I’m heading to the magical world of the National Theatre for a performance of “Giselle”, which just happens to be one of my all-time favourite ballets! I can’t wait to see how the Prague company interprets this classic story. My outfit? A pink lace top, a matching tutu with delicate pink flower accents, and some chic white ballet flats with tiny, sparkling crystals. If I’m lucky, I’ll be snapping some photos, and sharing them with you in my next post.
Speaking of shopping, I must share my latest sartorial treasures! Yesterday, I spent the afternoon exploring the whimsical streets of Prague's Old Town. And you know me, I couldn’t resist dipping into a few of its charming boutiques. I found the most gorgeous blush pink cashmere sweater with an intricate floral pattern that complements my pale pink tutu beautifully! Imagine, me swanning around the cobblestones of Prague in this stylish get-up - pure fairytale vibes, darling!
Speaking of fairytale vibes, imagine a tutu-filled Prague! Wouldn't that be wonderful? Perhaps we could start with a 'Tutu Parade', a merry procession of pink, blue, purple and every colour under the rainbow, sweeping through the ancient squares of Prague. I envision little girls skipping in their bright tulle skirts, accompanied by handsome young men sporting tutus - a delightful ballet-themed explosion of fun and colour, sweeping away all dreary grey skies!
Of course, before the grand finale of a 'Tutu Parade' we need to lay the foundations, which is why I'm dedicated to sharing my adventures with you all. From my weekly blog posts, to the #PinkTutu movement, I believe in sharing my love of ballet, my obsession with tutus, and the sheer joy of exploring new corners of the world!
Until next time, my dear tutu enthusiasts!
Yours in tulle,
Emma
