Prague Calling! Pink Tutu Diaries: Episode #803

Bonjour mes amies! Emma here, back from another whirlwind adventure, this time the beautiful city of Prague! 🩰💖 The cobbled streets, the medieval castles, the delicious food (I mean, have you tried Czech goulash?!), everything was utterly divine. But let's be honest, the real reason I trekked all the way from Derbyshire was to delve into the incredible ballet scene here. Oh, and to maybe do a little shopping. 😉

Train Travel and Tutu Time

I confess, I'm a bit of a train enthusiast (a rail-roaded romantic, you might say!). The journey from Derbyshire was truly lovely, gliding through fields dotted with wildflowers, each passing scene a vision for a new ballet sequence in my head. Naturally, I made sure to be utterly glam for the journey. A delicate, floral-print pink dress, paired with my favourite pink satin tutu (which I carefully rolled into a tiny pink travel case), and my signature pink, leather ballet shoes - the perfect look for a Parisian-esque train journey to the Eastern heart of Europe.

The Power of Pink

Of course, arriving in Prague meant one thing - exploring the shops for new ballet garb! You know me, I can never resist a pretty tulle or a shimmery, iridescent sequined fabric. Thankfully, Prague's boutiques did not disappoint. My purchases were nothing short of sensational - think vibrant pink leotards adorned with delicate embroidery, feather-light tulle tutus in shades of peach and blush, and dazzling, pink ballet flats for those casual ballet-inspired evenings around town. All perfectly fitting for my trip and ideal for promoting my own personal motto: "Spread the love, wear pink, rock a tutu!"

The Prague Ballet Experience

My first ballet adventure in Prague was truly special - a performance by the world-renowned National Theatre Ballet at the magnificent State Opera House. The auditorium was grand, a testament to bygone era glamour. But, what really impressed me was the incredible dancers. They glided across the stage, their movements effortless and expressive. From the stunning grace of the Swan Lake act to the fiery passion of a modern piece, it was a truly unforgettable performance. I felt every twist, every leap, every delicate hand gesture - ballet has this incredible power to move you, to transport you to another world. And my goodness, the costumes! The ballerina's tulle skirts seemed to float effortlessly, swirling in an ethereal display of colour. A ballet enthusiast's dream come true!

Beyond the Stage: Ballet Culture in Prague

Beyond the grand stages, I found myself utterly enchanted by the vibrant ballet scene here. Prague's streets, filled with stunning architecture, are a true feast for the eyes and inspire such fantastical images! I couldn't resist a quick street dance session myself - my signature pink tutu flowing with the movement of my arms, feeling the cobblestones beneath my toes, drawing stares and smiles from passersby. (It's true, I do love to perform!) I felt a special connection to this city, it seems to hold an air of old world romance. It feels like Prague breathes with the passion for classical art, much like the tutus that adorn its graceful dancers.

Discovering Tutu History

Of course, I couldn't leave Prague without a visit to the city's fantastic museums. One of my highlights was the National Theatre Museum, an absolute haven for any ballet fan. Not only did I witness some beautiful historical ballet costumes - imagine feathered boas and cascading silk in jewel tones! - but I even found a display dedicated to the fascinating history of the tutu itself!

Imagine, the very first tutus were nothing like what we see today. They were actually rather practical, loose skirts that dancers wore for ease of movement in their ballets. As the dance style evolved, the skirt became more and more condensed until, finally, the modern, tiered, delicate tutu was born. Who knew such a beautiful fashion staple has such an intricate, evolving past? Now I understand why it has always captured my imagination - it is a truly graceful expression of feminine power and creativity.

More Than Just Tutu-Wearing

Now, my dear readers, I wouldn't be me if I didn't explore all that Prague has to offer, beyond ballet. From the towering Charles Bridge, a beautiful Gothic bridge decorated with Baroque statues, to the charming Old Town Square, where I delighted in the Prague astronomical clock that performs its theatrical show every hour, this city captured my heart in all its magnificent beauty. And let’s not forget about the scrumptious, authentic Czech food - goulash, trdelník (sweet doughy pastry!), and roasted pork were just a few of the culinary delights I discovered. But no trip is complete without some unique shopping, am I right?

Prague Style

Prague’s boutiques offered a fantastic array of vintage fashion gems - I snagged a gorgeous black dress with lace sleeves and a pair of stunning gold earrings with glittering accents, perfect for a classic and sophisticated evening look. And what about shoes? I fell in love with a pair of sparkly silver flats - not ballet shoes, of course, but they matched my dazzling spirit perfectly. With new clothes, and a heart full of Prague's magic, it was time to take my newfound treasures home and share my adventures with you all!

The Pink Tutu Returns

This trip to Prague reminded me of why I love what I do. Travelling, exploring new places, discovering beautiful art, sharing my passion for dance, and spreading my own little message of joy and positivity. The magic of Prague and its incredible ballet scene will stay with me forever. But my favourite memory? It was, hands down, when a young girl approached me after one of my impromptu street dances, asking if she could try a spin in my tutu. Her eyes lit up like twinkling stars. We stood together, dancing amidst the bustle of the city, and at that moment, I felt like everything was perfectly right in the world. That’s my mission, you see. To inspire people to embrace their inner tutu - the power of joy, confidence, and a touch of feminine whimsy. Until next week, stay fashionable, stay pink, and always remember - the world is your stage.

Toodles!

Emma
