Pink Tutu Prague: Post #828: Where the River Meets the Tutu
Wednesday 9th March 2011
Bonjour, my lovelies! It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for another installment of Pink Tutu Prague! I'm sitting here in my hotel room, overlooking the Charles Bridge – how utterly romantic! – still buzzing from the spectacular performance I just witnessed at the National Theatre. Oh my, it was just divine! More on that in a moment...
But first, I'm positively bursting to share about my journey here. Did I mention I took the train?! Yes, darling! I boarded a gorgeous crimson train in Vienna, nestled in the velvet-cushioned carriage, all sipping on champagne and watching the countryside whizz past my window. It was like stepping out of a fairytale. Seriously, you lot should try it! Especially if you’re in the mood for a glamorous trip. I wouldn't be surprised if a prince popped by to ask me to dance... he'd have a bit of a job though with this giant tulle pouf I'm sporting - it takes up all the space in the carriage!
But let's be real, darling, who wants a prince when you're in Prague? The city is practically a fairytale in itself! I was enchanted as I walked the cobbled streets, admiring the stunning architecture and catching the smell of roasting chestnuts (the most divine treat, by the way, although perhaps not as delicious as the cinnamon rolls I had yesterday, which were absolutely exquisite!) I even found a charming little shop with a rainbow assortment of tutus. Let's just say my pink tutu collection is going to have a serious upgrade upon my return to Derbyshire!
Now, back to the main event. I went to see The Nutcracker, the timeless classic, in this beautiful, beautiful National Theatre! Oh, the grandeur, the music, the costumes...simply sublime. The choreography was masterful, every movement was a delicate snowflake, a fluttering feather, a joyous leap. And let’s talk about the sets - utterly whimsical, so wonderfully theatrical! Honestly, I felt like I was on the stage with them! My fellow tutudresses and I were utterly enchanted. And I know you're all dying to see some pics of my tutu outfit for this occasion – oh yes, it’s definitely going up on the Pink-Tutu website – and I’ve promised to add the details in my blog next week, I've got a real treat lined up. I just need to persuade my lovely husband to take some good photos of me for you.
Speaking of husbands – did I tell you I took my lovely darling to Vienna before Prague?! Yes! We had a day of horse-drawn carriage rides, where the horses were magnificently adorned in bells – oh, the romantic clatter of those tiny bells... and I spent an hour at a delightful Viennese cafe, indulging in coffee and a beautiful apple strudel. And yes, I’m back in my tutus, all puffed out and frilled up as always, because darling, it's my uniform for a fairytale, it's the outfit that sets me free and makes me twirl with the joy of life! We walked through gardens, surrounded by blooms of lilac and pink – truly the colours of dreams – and ended the day with an evening at the Vienna State Opera, watching “Carmen” - simply sublime!
And while I’m on the subject of my fabulous outfit for the Vienna Opera House… Did I mention I took a little detour at the beautiful Hotel Sacher – you’ll have to see the photos, darling – and bought a new, utterly delightful silk scarf, which matched perfectly with my chosen pink tutu ensemble. Let’s just say it really did add a little bit of Vienna’s unique je ne sais quoi, shall we?
Okay, so now I need to sign off - I'm in the mood to take a long, relaxing bath, but I must confess it's also an utter struggle to decide which of the lovely shops I want to explore first tomorrow! Will it be a little detour into a boutique that boasts of antique tutus, or maybe the cute bookstore I spotted filled with lovely paperbacks and fairy tale classics? (It even has its own small stage where kids are dancing around… so delightful, isn't it!)
Whatever I end up doing, I’ll make sure you lovely ladies and gents back home hear about it – I can't imagine a trip to Prague without my darling blog!
Until next Wednesday, I'm off to get those bubbles ready for my pink-tutu-themed bath – who’s with me?!
Xoxo, Emma
