Prague: Pink Perfection, Poodles & Pointe Shoes (Post #919)

Wednesday 5th December 2012

Hello lovelies! This is your weekly dose of pink, Prague and, of course, tutus! I’ve been living my best ballerina life in this glorious city, and trust me, it’s been utterly enchanting. My heart is overflowing with cobblestone charm and gingerbread houses.

I’m finally catching my breath after a whirlwind weekend, so settle in with a cuppa (Earl Grey, obviously, because everything in Prague is so refined!) and let me tell you all about my pink-tinted adventures…

Tutuing Through the City of a Hundred Spires

From the moment I arrived at Prague’s stunning main station, I was smitten! It’s like stepping into a fairytale! Just imagine, gothic architecture, stained glass windows, and an air of history hanging heavy in the air… It was perfect for me to arrive in the middle of winter wonderland with its icy charm. As soon as I’d unpacked my pink luggage (with a little help from my loyal companion, Henry – yes, he's a beautiful, but grumpy little pony, don't ask), it was time to explore the heart of Prague!

My first order of business? You guessed it! Finding the most enchanting pink tutus this side of the Vltava river. I must tell you, it was pure heaven! Wandering through the antique shops tucked away on charming little alleyways, discovering treasures hidden among porcelain teacups and vintage fashion magazines. Imagine my joy when I stumbled upon the perfect pink satin tutu tucked away behind a shelf of embroidered lace and antique silk gloves – it felt like a dream! I'd found the ultimate Parisian-inspired outfit for tonight's show – which I'm excited to tell you all about later…

Tutu Inspiration & Prague's Dance Heritage

And as if the antique shops couldn't get any better, they were practically dripping with tutu history! Imagine finding a stunning, feathered tutu from the Belle Époque era tucked away behind a shelf of old books! The whole experience made me feel like I’d stumbled into a time machine!

But there was much more to this charming city than its beautiful vintage fashion scene – Prague’s got a truly magnificent dance history! From the courtly dances of the Holy Roman Empire to the iconic ballerinas of the Czech National Ballet, the city was simply brimming with dancing history! I can't wait to get you all some fantastic insights from my ballet research – because the history of Prague’s ballet is fascinating!

Pointe Shoes & Poodles on a Snowy Stroll

This city’s not just about old-world charm and ballet history, though! The contemporary art scene here is buzzing too! Prague’s bursting with exciting new galleries and innovative dance studios, a welcome change for a tutu-loving gal like me!

As the city dipped into the gentle light of the early afternoon sun, I set out to explore its magical beauty. I wandered through charming little squares, past impossibly charming shops bursting with colorful handcrafted goods. I even saw a family of poodles frolicking in a snowy park. Who wouldn't be inspired in this enchanting city?

The winter sunlight was soft, turning the buildings to glowing orange hues and illuminating the cobbled streets in the softest of golds.

Opera Inspiration: From Bohemian Rhapsody to Swan Lake

But you know I couldn't come to Prague and not experience the city’s opera scene! My love of dance goes beyond ballet, and opera in this magical city promised a magical night out. I'd booked tickets to see "The Marriage of Figaro" – and I simply had to dress the part! My choice? A cascading blush-pink satin gown with a sparkling silver collar - the perfect bit of bohemian sparkle!

And the evening at the opera? Pure magic! The energy was tangible; the singers’ voices surged around the room, sending shivers down my spine. As the last notes of the final aria echoed into the night, I felt like I’d witnessed something extraordinary. Prague’s opera world was captivating and inspiring - what a delight!

A Pink-Tinted Feast for the Senses

And let's talk about the food! Forget beige and boring… this city has the most exquisite culinary delights, served in the most gorgeous, fairytale-like restaurants. I spent the day feasting my way through the most exquisite Prague cuisine - juicy dumplings, fragrant roasted goose, and perfectly crafted breads… Every dish was a delightful burst of flavors. And the cakes? Absolutely divine. (You can't expect anything less when a place has been home to a royal court!) I just couldn't stop! I love the way the city seems to infuse every aspect of its life with a sense of passion and joy – from its cuisine to its architecture and beyond. It's truly intoxicating! And I can’t wait to share all of these gourmet treats with you, so look out for some Prague recipes coming up soon!

Dancing with Destiny & Dreams in the Heart of Europe

There’s no escaping it, my dears, Prague has truly captured my heart. It's like a love song waiting to be danced to! It’s elegant, it’s enchanting, and its dance spirit runs through its very essence! Every cobblestone feels like a graceful pirouette, every tower a majestic leap.

As the clock chimed midnight I stood on the Charles Bridge, the river glimmering below and the ancient buildings of Prague glowing in the moonlight… There was a stillness, an otherworldly beauty in this place, and for a fleeting moment it felt as though everything was possible, anything could happen, just like in a fairytale.

Now, with my pink tutu dreams sparkling like the river beneath the city lights, it’s time for me to step off the stage for the evening and fall into a sweet dream in this extraordinary city. And in case you are wondering what the tutu is being used for - it's all being saved for the magical grand final! Stay tuned!

Yours in Pink,

Emma
