Prague: Pink Tutu Perfection (Post #1054)

Bonjour mes chéries!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another instalment of your favourite fashion and ballet-infused blog, Pink Tutu. Today, we're whisking ourselves away to the magical city of Prague, a place that feels like it's straight out of a fairytale. It’s so quaint, romantic and beautifully elegant. Oh, and it has absolutely perfect photo opportunities for a girl in a pink tutu! 😉

This week’s journey finds me just off the train from Derbyshire – a quick and breezy ride with views of rolling hills and fluffy white sheep - and my legs are itching to hit the pavement in my favourite pink tulle masterpiece. Before I get too swept up in the whirl of Prague, let’s talk a little ballet, shall we?

You see, I've just wrapped up a divine performance at the National Theatre in Prague. Imagine, darling, a spectacular neo-classical performance set to a mesmerizing score – it’s the kind of experience that makes your heart soar and sends you twirling down cobbled streets! Speaking of twirling, I couldn’t resist performing a mini ballet flash mob at the beautiful Charles Bridge. The crowds stopped to watch, some even started to clap! Maybe that’s how I’ll finally get the world in tutus! I swear I even saw a cheeky squirrel with a pink bow on his tail – tutus really do work wonders!

Oh, before I go completely off-track, a little ballet history for you. Did you know that Prague actually has a pretty spectacular ballet history? The oldest documented ballet performance in the Czech lands dates back to the 16th century, so this city's been ‘en pointe’ for a very, very long time! And that's not even considering all the legendary figures, like Anna Pavlova and Vaslav Nijinsky, who have graced this city with their brilliance! Prague has truly been the cradle for ballet talent and that was certainly reflected in the stunning artistry of this evening’s performance.

And now, to the outfit, darling! Today, my Prague adventure has seen me clad in my new pink feather boa tutu – the epitome of graceful elegance. It pairs perfectly with my antique gold and rose quartz locket, gifted to me by my ballet teacher. I do believe that any good outfit should reflect the location, and what better way to channel the vibrant history of Prague than with a little old-world glamour, mixed with modern chic, and, of course, that touch of Pink Tutu magic.

Of course, no visit to Prague is complete without indulging in a little souvenir shopping. Today's finds:

  • A vintage postcard depicting a charmingly dressed lady in a tutu - maybe even my doppelganger! (They do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, don't they? 😉)
  • A beautiful hand-painted porcelain ballerina, ready to grace my shelf at home.
  • A collection of hand-stitched ballet slippers for my growing collection.

Speaking of my collection, this journey has me reminiscing about a trip I made to Vienna several years ago. Back then, my pink tulle tutu had just come into my life, and Vienna was the perfect setting to wear it for the first time. You should have seen me in the Hofburg Palace – so perfectly "Vienna" you would have thought I stepped straight out of an opera! 😉

But Prague has a whole different vibe. It's all romantic charm, bohemian whimsy, and delicious, freshly-baked pastries - oh my! Let's not forget the beer, the castles, the street musicians... and, dare I say, even a cheeky ballet dancer here and there. 😉 I even had a chance to experience a traditional puppet show, featuring... drumroll...a pink ballerina! It's hard to escape tutus here, which is clearly how it should be.

Now, I’ve got an appointment at a delightful little boutique near the Old Town Square - I’m hearing whispers of vintage lace tutus and feather-trimmed dancing shoes! Swoon! But before I get too distracted, remember you can join my Prague adventure every Wednesday on Pink Tutu.

Love,

Emma xo

P.S. Do let me know if you're ever in Prague and fancy a spot of tea in a pretty pink tea room, followed by a spontaneous dance-off! (Pink tutus are always welcome, darling! )

Ballet In Prague: The History, the Performance and The Pink Tutu

Let’s face it, Prague and ballet have a bond that's practically been set in stone. The very first ballet performance in Czech lands took place here back in the 16th century - they knew how to celebrate the beauty of movement even back then. From humble beginnings to opulent opera houses, ballet in Prague has always thrived, attracting talented dancers and audiences alike. And believe me, there’s plenty to see in Prague – not just historically significant ballet spaces but also places that are perfect for a little pirouette and photo-op with your pink tutu!

Prague boasts not one, but TWO opera houses dedicated to dance: the historic National Theatre, which welcomes legendary dancers, and the grand Prague State Opera, known for its beautiful interiors, intricate architecture and vibrant artistic spirit. These venues are absolute jewels - not only for their magnificent history, but also for the stunning performances they host.

The city of Prague, darling, it really just breathes ballet. There’s something quite mystical about the streets, the squares, and even the bridges… it's almost as though the very air is infused with grace and movement. Of course, all those beautiful historic landmarks aren't just there for the visual effect - it makes it incredibly easy to stage the most beautiful ballets right in the city's heart.

Think of the romantic Charles Bridge , so elegant and timeless, the perfect backdrop for a ballet scene in my Pink Tutu. The grand Old Town Square – could it be the set for an enchanting dance scene or even the place to stage a ballet performance under the starry Prague sky? Oh my!

As I write this, the images from the ballet performance earlier this evening are swirling in my head. The incredible artistry, the captivating stories told through graceful movement...and the audience captivated in total awe. It was simply a triumph for every dancer, every musician, every technician...every person that had a hand in creating this masterpiece. The air was filled with emotion, and it seemed the entire city held its breath to share this breathtaking experience. It really made me want to be back on stage again! Maybe I’ll pack a spare pink tutu, just in case an opportunity arises...

Pink Tutu and the Perfect Outfit

Here's something that just can’t be disputed – Prague has a unique style of its own. Imagine vintage charm, chic minimalism and a splash of romance, and you've got the Prague aesthetic. Oh darling, this is the perfect kind of style to play up with my Pink Tutu ! We are making a statement and celebrating both beauty and artistic spirit!

For today's Prague exploration, I wanted a pink tulle tutu that’s a bit more vintage and refined - you know, a tutu with character, like an antique brooch! And of course, to complement a vintage-inspired outfit like mine, you can’t have just any ordinary feather boa. You need one with just the right shade of pink, the perfect fluffiness and, of course, a hint of sparkling charm. Don’t forget that you need accessories to match the occasion. The key, I always say, is finding accessories that enhance the outfit, making it feel like the finishing touch of a master chef's delicious meal. I'm talking, darling, about a delicate antique locket that shines bright like Prague’s street lights and perfectly matches my pink feather boa tutu. Oh, and those little pink pumps? Those are handmade, with little pearls that make my toes wiggle with delight every step! It’s all about matching, darling. If the occasion calls for romance and refinement, a pink tutu and a matching set of vintage accessories is absolutely the only choice. 😉

A Visit to The Boutique Where Dreams Become Reality

You may be surprised to learn that vintage lace and feathery tutus are my absolute weakness! Just the slightest hint of these treasures brings me a certain kind of excitement, a whirl of excitement that might just end in me doing a twirl or two right there on the street. 😉

You won't find better, I promise, than at that little boutique just off the Old Town Square. You know the one - where the window is decorated with antique frames, tiny twinkling fairy lights and...a pair of adorable satin pink ballet slippers, just waiting to take a ballerina on the most magical of adventures. Inside, the air is filled with the scent of musk, cinnamon and old lace, a perfect combination to spark a girl's inner ballerina! And of course, when you’re surrounded by a sea of lace, velvet and vintage satin… who wouldn't succumb to temptation, darling?! I just know I did! Oh my, the vintage ballet tutu I found! It was a delicate lace confection that spoke of bygone days, of glittering opera houses and graceful dancers with powdered faces. The satin bow at the front, I almost melted with happiness! The shop owner, a woman with bright red lipstick and a mischievous glint in her eye, helped me find a set of ballet slippers that looked like tiny rosebuds. It was all I could do not to dance right there in the shop - I just couldn't resist! But remember darling, it's never too late for a spontaneous waltz. Or, well, maybe I just need a little bit more pink tulle in my life, that’s all! 😉

Pink Tutu: The Language Of The World

Prague has opened my eyes, and my heart, to new possibilities. This city doesn't just charm - it encourages me to think outside the box, to break free from ordinary and discover the magic that awaits. It’s a reminder, darling, that with a bit of creativity and courage, anything is possible. There are endless ways to create and to perform and in this beautiful city, everyone can become a performer. So if you find yourself feeling like you’ve forgotten how to dance, remember, life's a beautiful stage. And we all have our part to play!

And I’ll be waiting for you, my sweet reader, right here at Pink Tutu, with another week of fashion adventures, beautiful cities, and yes, even a little bit more pink tulle! Until next Wednesday!
