Pink Tutu Prague - Post 1293: Dancing Through the City of a Hundred Spires!
Wednesday 18th March, 2020
Oh my darlings! Prague has absolutely stolen my heart! I arrived last Sunday, chugging through the countryside on a glorious red train journey that felt like stepping into a fairytale. I even had a chat with the conductor about the history of tutus - you wouldn't believe how much these magical garments are linked to Prague! Did you know the first pointe shoes were made here? It's absolutely bonkers!
From the moment I stepped onto the cobbled streets, I felt an undeniable magic in the air. This city breathes history! You're walking past stunning Baroque buildings one minute, then strolling across the Charles Bridge with the city's iconic spires as a breathtaking backdrop the next.
Prague, I'm in love! And the best part? I'm wearing my favourite hot pink tutu. I simply couldn't leave it behind. The perfect way to add a splash of colour and a whole lot of whimsical charm to these cobbled streets!
A Tutu-ful Start:My first stop was, of course, the fabulous Pink Flamingo Boutique. I adore these shops for their gorgeous clothes! I found the perfect dress for tonight's ballet show – it's a soft pink, flowy silk number, just perfect for dancing in.
But before we get to the ballet, let's talk about tutus! Did you know the city boasts a hidden gem called the Národní divadlo (National Theatre)? It's a majestic building filled with history and theatre, but the best part is…it's home to one of the oldest costume houses in the world! You can find everything from intricate Elizabethan costumes to, you guessed it, tutus from every era.
I have a weakness for vintage tutus. They just whisper stories! There's a romance to the delicate hand-stitched silk, the frayed tulle, the fading silk ribbons…the sheer artistry. They remind me that we, as ballerinas, are part of something timeless.
My favourite? A pastel pink confection, its tulle so sheer it almost disappears into the air. A true vintage treasure that stole my breath.
The Majestic Theatre:Speaking of vintage beauty, last night, I enjoyed an exquisite show at the stunning Stavovské divadlo (Estates Theatre). I've been saving it as a grand finale for my time in Prague. It’s a hidden jewel right in the city center, a majestic Baroque building that whispers history at every corner. Imagine, it hosted Mozart's Don Giovanni for its very first premiere! A magical thought for any music lover. And then there are the tutus – the exquisite designs, the intricate beading! It was simply a dream come true.
Oh, and did I tell you I even had the chance to waltz on the stage during the interval? Well, not really a full waltz - more a delightful whirl, giggling with other theatregoers. My pink tutu twirled as the other ballerinas would have wished. This city really does have a magic to it!
Fashion Foray:Speaking of beautiful things, I couldn't possibly leave Prague without exploring its fashion scene. So this morning, I ventured into the captivating streets of the Old Town and stumbled upon the divine De Luxe Prague. Now, I must tell you, darling, this shop is absolutely delightful! I discovered a few new accessories that are perfect for pairing with a pink tutu! They really make an outfit sing!
Culinary Delights:Of course, Prague has not just beautiful architecture and incredible ballet, but also fantastic food. Last night, we enjoyed a delightful traditional Czech meal at the charming U Medvidku. It’s a traditional pub with a delightful menu featuring the iconic dumplings, crispy pork, and an unbelievable selection of local brews. All washed down with a lovely plum cordial, it really made for a delightful evening.
Tonight, I am having dinner at the fabulous Zlata Praza. It’s a rooftop restaurant with breathtaking views of the city – perfect for gazing at the enchanting spires whilst enjoying a lovely bowl of delicious mushroom soup.
I'll be taking a pony ride tomorrow, which will give me a chance to see even more of Prague's magical streets and visit the wonderful Petrin Hill – Prague's version of the Eiffel Tower!
I am going to be heading to see an incredible performance of The Sleeping Beauty, with a phenomenal lineup of dancers at the beautiful National Theatre. I'll be there in a gorgeous, flowing blue ballgown – I found it this afternoon! And a pink tulle stole to, of course, give it a whimsical flair! I just adore finding ways to bring the pink tutu magic into my outfits!
Now, my darling, let me know what you'd love to hear about next week! Tell me, what do you want to know about Prague, tutus, or fashion?
Until next Wednesday, stay fabulous and let your pink tutu spirit shine!
Lots of love,
Emma xxx
