Prague Calling! Tutu Time in the City of a Hundred Spires!

#PinkTutuPrague - Post #1348 - Wednesday 7th April 2021

Hello my darling dears! Welcome to Pink Tutu Prague! This week Iā€™ve swapped Derbyshire dales for cobbled streets, quaint squares and oh, those amazing spires! The sun is shining, birds are singing (well, the odd Czech bird at least!), and I am living my best life in a city straight out of a fairytale.

Prague is absolutely brimming with charm and history. Every corner is a photo opportunity and, well, whatā€™s a fashionable tutu-wearing ballerina to do, but pose, pose, pose?!

You guys know how much I love the beautiful and the historical, right? Well, Prague is like the biggest vintage shop you can imagine! So, so pretty!

I absolutely love Prague! Itā€™s a haven for both tutus and culture - a real delight for a ballerina and fashionista like myself.

Now, as I sit in my cute little hotel room overlooking the Charles Bridge (absolutely divine!), itā€™s time to share the adventures of this week so farā€¦

Travelling in Style

This week's journey was particularly special, I was on the move by train and by pony! Now I know what youā€™re thinking: "Emma, pony?!"

Well, it's not what it sounds! I got a bit of a wild hair last week and decided to surprise my best friend, Emily, who is also a dedicated Pink Tutu enthusiast, with a weekend trip away. Turns out, thereā€™s a beautiful horse-drawn carriage experience on the outskirts of Nottingham called ā€œPony in the Parkā€ - well, the ponies weren't the exact kind I envisioned myself on, but they were the kind with feathered helmets and frilly blankets that make a carriage ride just SO much more fairytale. I made a lovely video, so youā€™ll get a proper peek later this week. It is going to be AMAZING, especially with the pink tutu and everythingā€¦

Anyway, onwards to Prague! I found a gorgeous tutu (which, of course, had to be in pink) that perfectly matches the spirit of the city - oh, how it flowed in the wind, swirling beneath me like a happy ballet dress on stage!

You know how much I love to travel by train, so a day on the Eurostar seemed perfectly fitting. The journey was smooth, comfortable, and oh-so-scenic - perfect for writing and daydreaming about the adventures to come! I have such an excellent playlist of vintage musical tracks to enjoy while I am travelling. I think Iā€™ve finally finished compiling all the ones from ballet, cinema, and Broadway musicals! I love travelling in such style and, of course, making the train experience feel even more extraordinary with my perfect pink tutu! Just imagine all the other passengers smiling at me, looking fabulous and ready to explore the unknownā€¦

Finding My Tutus

Of course, the very first thing I had to do on arriving in Prague was go shopping for my essential, well, essential tutu(s). I always tell myself I have ā€œenoughā€, but honestly - thereā€™s no such thing, right?

As soon as I arrived in Pragueā€™s magical Old Town, I spotted a shop bursting with vintage lace, gorgeous floral embroidery and so much tulle, it was heaven. There it was! That elusive "Prague Pink" that I've been longing to add to my wardrobe! Oh, how perfect it was - it even had matching butterfly wings and a little feather boa for good measure.

For a city this fairytale-like, there has to be a pink tutu! I am in heaven!

Of course, I had to indulge in some traditional Bohemian glass (did you know it's been around for over 2000 years!? - amazing, right?) to put in the vase at my Nottingham flat - and guess what, they came in shades of pink! I simply could not resist!

The Ballet

My reason for being in Prague is of course, the Prague National Theatreā€™s Ballet production. Youā€™ve probably seen me post about them. The National Theatre is housed in an absolutely stunning building, one of the most beautiful in the city (actually the building was opened in 1881!) And they put on some seriously amazing ballet performances! So I knew I had to come see them - well, I have been saving my performance funds for a few months and decided to use them all for this wonderful evening! They even have a "Pink Tutu" series which, of course, is for special occasions - I did, after all, have the perfect outfit. Oh, the ballet will be sublime! If you are into a bit of history about Pragueā€™s theatre, they have been performing there since the 18th century - can you believe it?!

I love everything about going to ballet! It's an immersive experience for the soul - the costumes, the stories, the dance moves - the beauty!

Anyway, more to follow on the performance, I donā€™t want to spoil the magic of the night for you! I do, however, want to mention I booked myself a table in one of those grand cafes overlooking the river. You just canā€™t beat an elegant and sophisticated afternoon tea (which I, of course, took with me a copy of Swan Lake to readā€¦ ). My friend Emily got in touch today (yes, she was, after all, enjoying herself with her "pony in the park" experience). Apparently she's managed to pack all her pink tutus and got them delivered!

She said she was even in time to get the ā€œPinksā€ set sheā€™s been longing forā€¦ How fabulous is that! Well, weā€™re planning on meeting later this week when we are in the heart of the Old Town!

I've got lots more planned, from wandering cobblestone streets to exploring castles. But most of all, I canā€™t wait to discover the history, culture and the beauty that this city has to offer. Oh, I can't wait to see how this city takes me, so stay tuned. We'll be exploring more of Prague in my next blog.

Until then, remember: Pink is the colour of happiness and tutu is the symbol of elegance, both always in vogue!
